We all want the 909 but the last time it was a viable option for a bedroom producer was about 10 years ago

i got the mc 303 in the end just because 505s are much harder to find without dead lcd screens in the UK

now im looking for a sampler i was thinking about an 808 ex again because of the cheap price when compared to an Akai but im still looking for a 505 if the price is right

Didn't know the mc's were so hard to come by to be honest. I sold my 303 when I got my 505 many years ago, but held onto the 505 when I got my 909. I never use the 505 anymore but for some reason I can't part with it! I HATED the 808 EX though!! I bought it without really trying it and its just collecting dust now. I really should make an e-bay account and stick all this gear on it!! :) Since I bought a Fantom a lot of my gear has been retired so to speak.

can i ask what you hated about the 808 ex?

I have read extremely mixed reviews about it some people loving it and others hating it. the only thing that puts it in front of an Akai for me is the fact that they are going for £100 - £150 compared to about £300 for the bottom end of the MPC range.

and you should sell your stuff on ebay as long as it works you can pretty much guarantee a decent price

There was a lot of bad design decisions with it. The interface was horrible, zip discs were a pain and very noisy and the sequencer was a mess. If you had a lot of samples playing at once (4 samples at once is max if I rem correctly?? Been a v long time since I used it) at fairly high tempo they'd start dropping out all the time. I hated it! I can't comment on the Akai as I've only ever used Roland gear, except for buying a Korg triton which now collects dust too since getting the Fantom!

Awesome DAW, drums is only one part of the potencial of this beast ;)

You can even re-sampling a whole pattern and use it as a single loop.

Very complex but very flexible machine.

Hey I did not know you owe the MC-909. What do you think over all of this machine? I have heard complains of really bad set of sounds on the MC-808. Would you say the same for the MC-909? What are the strengths and weaknesses of this machine? What are the differences from the MC-808? One more question how would you rate the MC-505? Cheers from ObeeLektro.

808 is superb if you have a computer to link it up to for editing etc.

If you like to play live or hate computers as I do the 909 is better.

Both are great but it depends what you want to do. The 808 isnt a cut down 909, its a totally diff instrument, better in some ways, worse in others.

For me the 909 wins everytime, for others the 808.

505 is great too, but not as good as the 909 or 808 IMHO.

we agree on one thing HATE COMPUTERS in case of music making... I own one old Roland MC-303 which was broken for a long time and i managed to fix it but didnt pick it up from roland service yet, ever since it was broke i stoped making music because

Generally MC-909 its a good machine for electronic and dance productions (roland has a very good sequencer - in my opinion)

Some sounds a little poor, but you have a sampler and place for the srx expansion.

You make a choice.
