  • This trailer makes it look like it is going to be a good movie, but this was LITERALLY the worst movie I have ever seen. And I like a lot of movies that are quiet and nuanced. Nuanced this was not; it was just not well written or animated.

  • 0:36 ... "Le Petit Prince" reference ?

  • Um...this animation blows..am I the only one who sees this? It looks like a cutscence from an early '00s videogame.

  • wen i rented it for my little cousin i was like ugh whatever!!! but then i started to see it and fell in love with it. It really is a great movie!!!! <3

  • dubbing pisses everyone off. Although it is better with animation. With live action it just looks ridiculous. Just about everyone I know who waches foreign films feels the same way: subtitles all the way. Plus, then you can see what they were meant to say. It doesn't have anything to do with one language being better, but the original is always how it was meant to be, and when you dub things you have to change to make the words fit. Plus facial expressions don't match due to grammar...etc

  • The background looks nice, but the animation itself sort of looks like the intro to an older pc game.

  • why does this movie look like sims 2

  • some movies have to stay in their original language. This is one of them

    French for the win!!

Even if you cant speak it. Sometimes you can just use subtitles. I watched a Swedish movie in..well.. Swedish. And it was terrible in English

  • @Xloi63, Agreed. We bought the Korean version so we could set it to the original language with English subtitles. The part where the cruel queen says she's become a "monster" is really moving in French because of the way she delivers the line. There are certain tones of voice and pacing of speech that are just different in French and can't really be re-created by English-speaking actors.

I'm sure it works the other way, too. I'm sure Star Wars just wouldn't fell the same dubbed into French.

  • What an amazing movie this would have been if the characters were animated in 2D instead of this stiff and rigid 3D animation.

  • the animation and colors look awesome but the models look kinda corny. They should have gotten some of the guys at naughty dog or pixar for the models.

  • I just read about this movie on parents magazine! I wanna watch it! ^_^

  • I haven't seen it yet, but it sure looks awesome... yeah, 17 and still dreaming with animated films and fairytales! XD But hey, they said "for all ages".

I like their voices better in English than French.... :P

  • I don't! But the nurse's voice is awesome yeah

  • For sure! ^^ But her accent doesn't sound very Morrocan, that's why it's not as "authentic". Same for Crapoux: his voice was better in French. Otherwise, I think Azur's father's voice is very similar to the one in French.... I'm OK with such changes, but I always like "Original Versions" better- I mean, even English to French translations are always better in English! :)

  • I guess more care goes into casting the first time around.

I haven't seen the French version but I do like Crapoo's voice - it's a working-class stereotype of course but I felt the actor did a good job of giving it personality.

  • @Jayahind, it is a wonderful film, but don't expect the fast pacing of Disney! This film is meant to appeal to a more sophisticated viewer and doesn't have to rely on big, flashy musical numbers.

BTW, I don't think there's any age where someone should "outgrow" animation. It is a beautiful art form.

  • Indeed! I finally saw it these holidays and loved every bit of it! A gorgeous piece! :D

  • @EyeLean5280 'This film is meant to appeal to a more sophisticated viewer', realy? cant we just all agree that these are beautiful animations and that everyone can appreciate them. Perhaps this Unsophisticated 'Disney' generation has yet to discover this artform.

  • @artwel123, Don't get your panties in a bunch. I happen to love Disney. But just as I recognize the difference between spaghetti & caviar, I recognize the difference between an entertainment film and an art film. Not saying one is better than the other - just saying they're different.

With a few exceptions (such as Fantasia), Disney movies tend to fall into the "entertainment" category. Walt Disney said so himself, & if he wasn't offended by the notion, I don't see why you should be.

  • @EyeLean5280

I was sceptical about the film at first. But it was great! I wouldn't have seen it without your recommendation.

    Thank you.

  • @Gousteaue - So glad you enjoyed it!

  • I watched this when I was living in the Middle East. Me and my mom couldn't understand one word because it was in French and we're American, but we just couldn't stop watching! ;-;

  • @DanniDotNet, the English translation is great! Definitely would be worth your time to see it again.

  • Really? I haven't been able to find it.

  • Try Amazon (dot) com

  • was fortunate enough to see this w/my son @ Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. Awesome Film. Would get it on DVD if it were available.

A must see for kids of all ages.

  • It's really beautiful If you enjoy fairy tales u have to see this movie!!!

  • just saw this film at the Newport Film Festival and it is a beauty. Bravo

  • My Mom's de actress who plays de nurse

  • really? she's got an amazing voice!!!

  • Thank u. Strangely enough, when we went 2 c it we got the whole cinema 2 ourselves. I think it was because some people were 2 racist2 c it.

  • FANTASTIC STORY

  • I watched this in Slovenia and its soo cool!

  • bad bad bad way . it shld be french and arabic . and subtitled in english . thats what make also the movie so special , coz now in this way u r goin to feel that if like they r repeatin themselve.

but a side this , go and watch it i watch it a year ago it a gr8 gr8 movie and for all the ages , talks about immigration , racism, sharin , jalousy and MAGIC ;)

  • @julesdamian1975 But actually, the English and Arabic was pretty good. The voice actors were very convincing for both versions. What a fricking epic movie though, even though it's a kid's film I had to buy my copy from Amazon just to see the beautiful Islamic art.

  • @julesdamian1975 Oh yeah, and I understand French, so it's not like I prefer the English version just because it's easier. The French voice actors were good, but not mind-blowingly better than the English.
