I'm annoyed with people mentioning video games as some kind of a child's toy and going on after that to watch movies. What hypocrisy is this? If video games are for kids then so are movies and books. Video games are just movies you interact with. It is the highest growing form of entertainment AMONGST ADULTS and it makes no difference where you live. I rather play a video game like Mass Effect 2 then watch some sci-fi movie for example.
After the Japanese stock and real estate bubbles popped in the early 1990's, many Japanese "children" started doing the same thing. Over there they are called "Freeters."
@nathanwilefrazier thanks nathan. i think the whole situation is somewhat inevitable -- is there really enough space/land/development in this world for every 20-something-year old to live alone or away from home?
@peteness The world population is supposed to hit 7 billion this year. Shoulder-to-shoulder, everyone would take up the city of Los Angeles.
Economically, it is definitely inevitable. But even if it weren't inevitable, it would still make good economic sense.
Psychologically, it is challenging for many - but there are plenty of cultures where 3 or more generations of family live in the same house - and function indefinitely that way.
This is a form of child abuse. I have parents that are exactly the same way, and I resent them for the fact that they "held my hand" until i finally left the country. That was 8 years ago and when i look back, if i hadn't GROWN UP and did what i did, i would still be at home being spoon fed. Get out and take on the world. Your folks will always be there, don't let them hold you down.trust me.
