  • Oh yeah, I remember this station too! I was in college up in the Bronx then, and APP sure gave PLJ a run for its money!

  • Correction: Format change to CHR was in late 1984, not '85.

  • Very cool that you found and posted this Apple spot. Our studios were located on the LIE near Utopia Parkway. Place was a run-down dump. But it rocked hard, day and night, until the fatal mistake of changing format in 1985 to chase after Z-100. Doubleday corporate did that, not the air staff. Thanks, New York, for listening to the Rockin Best! Jeff Young, mornings, WAPP-FM, 1983-1985

  • In June 1983, WAPP held a 'battle of the bands' at a club near the Jersey shore. One of the groups was the John Bongiovi Band. I was there and I would live to find any records of this show.

  • I was a high school student on Long Island during the early '80's. I vividly remember this station and it's commercial free summer. Unfortunately it didn't last more than a couple of years due to corporate whims.

  • Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes, I was a Long Island teenager in the early 80s, and this station was based in the town of Lake Success. Its competitors were 95.5 WPLJ and 102.7 WNEW, the latter having been around since the dawn of time. It was arguably the heyday of the AOR format, sandwiched between the abandonment of disco by white listeners and the rise of urban sounds. I don't know if the format still exists in New York.

  • Wow... I Soooo remember these commercials!!!

  • I remember WAPP. BTW, which station aired this commercial?

    Thanks for posting!
