@kestainbrook I use a cloth to wrap my slab bacon. Its not raw and I get mine from a butcher that salt cures and smokes the meat. I dont leave my haversack in the sun or do other things that could spoil it which can happen to my bacon. Ac forum and other online sources have more info on slab bacon and true salt pork.
@CivilWarReenacting1 I will make more but right now school and my other projects are a bit of a more pressing matter. I have not had the time to do more but when I do they will be good. maybe before my spring break but definitely by St. Patricks day will have more out. Thank you for the compliment.
Good video, its better than the other one that talks about it being a haversack and box. At least yours is researched and you use correct verbage as well.
@tkdmasterbound Thanks! I dont have a hardpack myself but one tip I could give is to make sure your weight is evenly distributed. I know some people who say that it is one of the most uncomfortable knaosacks to wear. Dont overburden it either.
There is plenty of photographic evidence of blankets on top, greatcoats on top and nothing at all. I have even read info of soldiers folding greatcoats into their knapsack and rolling blankets on top. I dont have a greatcoat and take only one blanket. Its more comfortable having it there since that bag is not overflowing with extra un-necessaries. Pack light, thats what soldiers did.
Question - why not have the blanket on top of the knapsack strapped on using the blanket straps? Looks like an 1855 double bag knapsack and there is plenty of photographic evidence of blankets carried this way. Just wondering. Thanks for the video ...
When I first started progressing my pack weighed almost 40 lbs. I pack my pack like the guys did then, and I do it to better represent that for the public. If you can do it with more weight, ok. Try doing it day after day after day. You would be sick of lugging extra crap like they did and go to the bare essentials. Rely on pards and share the load.
@pasosncockers My knapsack has some features of an early war knapsack. Like I said in the video, I am not sure of who made the knapsack. It is something I am hoping to upgrade by next season, because of certain things that make it incorrect. I hope to have a dell leather works kit in my posession after I do a little more practice with making correct oilcloth.

Question: How do you wrap your slab bacon for an event? And how well does raw meat keep in a haversack over a weekend? I'm a bit apprehensive.
Thanks for your very helpful vids.
