You can slow it down by taking out a battery and connecting the +/- ends with wire. That's what I did with mine which can be seen on my page.

@kelbo031890 The reason it's so fast is because of my choice of gearbox. The Make Magazine build called for a Solarbotics GM2. Unfortunately, the GM2 is currently sold out. We elected to go with the GM8, which has the same motor and housing as the GM2, only the torque is less and the speeder is faster. I can now report that the GM8 works splendidly, if you don't mind the lightning-fast reflexes. The GM8 works with the same wheel and mount as the GM2.
