hey if you look at harold macmillans term as prime minister 1957-1963-standerds of living went up by 50%. under labour living standerds decrease. under conservatives they increase.
You can't have an opinion on a country when you have never lived there, don't know the history or culture, and the Labour pary was never very sopcialist anyway, but they they did help to equalise Britain in this period.(1960's).
Good man... socialism never works because its principles are inimical to human nature. The economic foundations of socialism also collapse under the weight of its contradictions, as Professor Von Mises so brilliantly exposed in the 1920's. Professor Hayek continued his work, publishing the seminal essay, 'the Use of Knowledge in Society' which demolished the methodological arguments for socialism. I won't be voting Conservative however... they are a bunch of wets of the MacMillan tradition.
I disagree. I would argue that the Conservative party is based around Disraelian principles while still holding the belief in laissez faire economics.
Capitalism is institutionalised slavery. Brainwashing because the privately-owned media spews out its right wing rubbish. Don't accept its lies. What we should strive for is true democracy (people power). Abolish the monarchy, the House of Lords and put newspapers under public control.
@Mickmars90 I assume that by the human nature argument, you mean people should be allowed to be greedy.
Well, put it this way...Under Capitalism there are more losers than winners. Under Socialism, the losers would start to do better off. Hence, even if the richer classes' "human nature" was somehow upset or whatever, it would be worth it because of how many people would be freed.
@Mickmars90 . lol,if only it were that simpple my friend. I suggest that you might look at the wide range of libertarian thought, from the consequentialist libertarianism of Hayek and Friedman to the deontological libertarianism/objectivism of Murray Rothbard and Ayn Rand. i rest my case. hope this helps.
@crazyclive It's 1970 alright. Notice the hairstyle and clothing on the younger people at the time and all three tv channels were broadcasting colour programmes in some areas of the country. This film was probably originally filmed and transmitted in colour as I notice red, green and blue patterns emerging and colour breaking through as we only have a grayscale version of this PPB. I won't be voting on 6th May. See my profile and find out why.

Are you sure this was from 1970? I'm pretty sure this PPB is actually from 1966.

No wonder the Labour Party lost the election if this is the best they could come out with for an election broadcast!

I think you are judging this by modern standards... There were some bad election broadcasts from all parties.
