S8 wasn't as good as i was expecting but if you read the last issue of S8 joss writes that he will be going back to what the fans love about buffy, so i have my fingers cross that the S9 will be better.

Even if S9 is perfect it can't repair that damage.

Whedon had a lot of great ideas in Season 8 (slayer academy, buffy replacements, loneliness theme, humans vs slayers, etc), but then he added a lot of very....bad things (spike on alien ship? new reality by sex? god buffy? all the random fantasy creatures and forest people, Harmony reality tv, random plots and everything else?)
In a sense, S9 would have been great if S8 was great. now it kind of feels like reset and all S7 build up is wasted :<

Satsu is great but kind of has no personality. Buffy should totally do the bad thing with Faith, because I think they are attracted to each other (I mean, slayer meets slayer, superpowers meets superpowers). If you look at the episodes with Faith and Buffy getting to know each other there is a LOT of lesbian subtext: looks, dialogue etc that is clearly not incidental. And Buffy can't really be with someone like Riley or Satsu, she needs someone with power and a dark side.

I so wish Whedon would do an actual tv season 8.
Just:
- Remove Dawn transformations
- Remove reality by sex ridiculousness
- Tone down God-Buffy/God-Twilight to more buffy-like god stuff
- Tone down the "fantasy parts".
- Remove all over-the-top effects from comic book.
- Add follow-up to buff/spike parting scene, replacing the ridiculous alien ship.
Entire tv season expanding on s7 themes with buffy sort-of running slayer academy and the whole moral gray-ness of S8 would have been awesome.

Satsu is great but kind of has no personality. Buffy should totally do the bad thing with Faith, because I think they are attracted to each other (I mean, slayer meets slayer, superpowers meets superpowers). If you look at the episodes with Faith and Buffy getting to know each other there is a LOT of lesbian subtext: looks, dialogue etc that is clearly not incidental. And Buffy can't really be with someone like Riley or Satsu, she needs someone with power and a dark side.

@SwirlyTimes Yeah I heard that as well. That he was like, no there's no subtext, and then someone pointed out the subtext for him and he had to agree. Maybe one of the writers put it in there as well as Eliza playing the character very flirtatiously and connecting to Sarah really well.
