  • how can anyone be atheist and buddhist at the same time? can someone explain this to me?

  • @kar0x buddism has no god. Budda is not a god. As long as i know buddism is focus on how to live life. Live your life without greed and you will get peace

  • @kar0x Atheism = anti theist, the does not believe in an (intervening) god

buddhism doesnt have a god, as far as i remember

  • lol stevie ray vaughan at the beginning

  • Awesome. Well said, Matt. Atheism is just a simple lack of believe in deities. As for order in the world, that's just religion exploiting the human need for virtue and moral order as a tool for dependency. It's been the ultimate playing card.

  • Famous writer Atheist (Voltaire): The Physician waiting up with Voltaire at his death, said that he cried out with utter desperation, I am abandoned by God and man, I will give you half of what I am worth if you give me six months of life, then I shall go to Hell and you go with me,,oh,Christ,Jesus Christ. Different story at an atheist death bed.Just one of many researched accounts ive read. No God!!! huuuuu....

  • Matt knows his stuff. He makes creatards nervous. It's funny watching them squirm and frantically deny the refutations of their myths.

  • I contribute quite a bit to keeping the peace. Ask anyone I haven't killed.

  • Steve Quayle puts Matt into the ground with ,facts, evidence on biblical text,on utube

  • Matt,, Stop referring Christianity as a religion!!!! The Greek word used for reigions literally means " To have great respect for demons" God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is the Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands,Acts 17-24...I cant believe a once bible preacher such as Matt is so delusional...His biblical knowledge lacks in backing his arguments, or he twists its content...Sorry pal...Not good enough.

  • @flatop59 Actually the word "religion" originates from the Latin word "religionem" meaning "respect for what is sacred, reverence for the gods". Sorry pal...Not good enough.

  • @FatalFortuneCookie Ya,,,really? Gods??? yr right...A Christ follower isn't religion,,,and that good enough.pal!!

  • @flatop59

    Religion

    re·li·gion/riˈlijən/

    Noun:

1)The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, esp. a personal God or gods.

2)Details of belief as taught or discussed.

Trying to invoke an archaic definition of the word "religion" in order to change the argument is weak.

  • @leftovers0 If anyone considers himself religions and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart ,this persons religion is worthless. James 1:26...Is that what you mean?

  • @flatop59

I have no idea what that means. Quoting the bible means nothing to me, as there is no evidence that the claims made are divinely inspired, or even historically accurate.

My point was that the modern, colloquial use of the word "religion" (and clearly the definition that Matt was using) is a cult with a large number of followers (and often tax exemption)

Christianity is a religion, Islam is a religion, Judaism is a religion, Hinduism is a religion, Scientology is a religion

  • @leftovers0 The bible is not understood by non followers of the faith. The above list i agree with,,,except for one thx!

  • @flatop59

If you claim that Christianity is true, and that those other religions that I listed (and the thousands that I did not) are false, then you must provide evidence

If it cannot be understood by anyone other than people who are willing to follow it blindly on faith alone (without ever questioning the dogmatic claims, the teachings or the source), then I suggest that it is a cult which preaches illogical and inconsistent dogma, and can only be followed by naive, gullible fools.

  • @leftovers0 Well then,,, keep posting them...I might learn something! Funny athiests have this war (thang) against religion,,,its like,,,,ummmm.*Middle East Thing, dont ya think .It just goes,on,and on and on.A no win...What a waste of proving what? To you guys,,,(((nothing))) believing a whole lot of nothing. If religion is a threat,,,band together as true atheists with A-K 47s and start a mulisha. hahahaha.

  • @flatop59

I don't need to incite any form of violence to make my point. The logic of my arguments is enough. No-one kills over what they DON'T believe in.

Fundamentalist Muslims bomb towers, fundamentalist Christians bomb abortion clinics, the "new atheists" make blunt comments and mock outdated mythology. And yet for some reason, religious people seem determined to believe that we're "as bad as the people we protest against".

    We're not. Don't be a moron.

  • @leftovers0 Wasn't Stalin an Atheist?

  • @flatop59

Stalin killed people to enforce a radical communist regime, not because he didn't believe in the Christian god.

You don't kill over what you don't believe in

Christian and Muslim fundamentalists kill in the name of the dogma that they believe in. One could draw a comparison with the dogmatic manner in which Stalin pushed his new communist doctrine.

Also, I did specify 'the "new atheists"' in my comment, refering (as you well knew) to the recent movement in western society

  • @leftovers0 He was an atheist!!!!whats the difference??????????? Dont compare it,,,its evil period,No God,,the Devil has free reign. You want America Christian free??? The final results would be communism, wake up,learn by history facts buddy!!!! What the matter with ya,you blind? The wicked shall be turned into Hell and the nations that forget God Psalm 9-17...That means communism,,,No God! The Anti Christ will be the next in line. Its already shaping up to it,,,look around watch the news.

  • @flatop59

"He was an atheist!whats the difference?"

I just explained the difference. He didn't kill because of his atheism, he killed to enforce a radical fascist regime. Atheism is not aligned with any political position.

The crusades were people killing to spread Christianity.

Israel and Palestine are killing each other because they both think their holy books promised them the same piece of land.

Muslims spread Islam by slaughtering people in Egypt, North Africa and Afghanistan

  • @leftovers0 We live in a fallen world,!!!live with it., Help people in your own community to make a difference.Don't blame God or religions in the world to justifiably make your point. Why?Christians will go on preaching the gospel in the world,as will wars continue in the world. The sun will set,the sun will rise. Remember this,God gave us free reign to run our planet as were not doing it so well.Don't blame! Wont change a thing.help people in your community.forget the rest. Make peace!

  • @flatop59

What does that have to do with anything I said? Anything I was responding to?

I do help the people in my community. I volunteer, and give to a number of charities.

What does that have to do with whether or not your god is real?

What does that have to do with whether or not the claims in the bible are true?

  • Matt,, Stop referring Christianity as a religion!!!! The Greek word used for reigions literally means " To have great respect for demons" God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is the Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands,Acts 17-24...I cant believe a once bible preacher such as Matt is so delusional...His biblical knowledge lacks in backing his arguments, or he twists its content...Sorry pal...Not good enough.Go back to bible school!

  • Cool song at the beginning, Pipeline. Anthrax did a trash metal version of it 20 years ago.

  • @tranquility4all dont try and kid yourself

  • @MrFollowingjesus Kid myself ? WHAT are You talking about ? Almost all religions especially christianity were invented by some control freaks as a means to CONTROL many people.

  • @BunWackettBuzzard actualy you are missing the point , when people find jesus when they have been bad they stop being bad, so the world becomes that much more of a better place, people in the future will no longer be getting hurt or robbed from these people, imagine if the world today just forgave each other for al the things they have done to one another, countries and men , and moved on with all their lives in peace through jesus , your telling me this is a bad thing

  • @MrFollowingjesus The world will be a better place when religious people especially christians stop condemning people of different faith, people without faith & People because of their sexual orientation.

  • @tranquility4all You think it is fantasy so why do you care about people condemning you?

  • @Stinukli I'm pointing How Dangerous belief in religious dogma can be. There are many irrational christian fundamentalist who will act on religious dogma & use the BUY BULL as a justification for their actions against People of different faith, People without faith & People because of their Sexual Orientation.

Is this too difficult for You to understand ?

  • @Stinukli Read about the Inquisitions. For centuries Many Irrational christian fundamentalists believed they we're doing god's work by CONDEMNING & EXECUTING Many People who refused to worship their god. You still think believing in religious fantasies won't have dangerous consequences for People who don't share those beliefs ?

  • @tranquility4all I am not talking about what people do physically; I am talking about aquisations of damnation after you're dead. Should it bother you?

  • Comment removed

  • @Stinukli I'm more concerned about people's actions than their thoughts. I'm talking about the atrocities committed by religious fundamentalists. Shouldn't it bother You that many irrational religious fundamentalists attempt to justify their atrocities because of religious dogma & scripture ?

Are You suggesting religious fundamentalism & religious fundamentalists can't be dangerous ?

Are You suggesting We should ignore the atrocities committed by religious fundamentalists ?

  • @MrFollowingjesus You are only looking at the surface of religion, and ignoring what it actually does and what it stands for. You're blinded by the direct benefits that you see comes from it, without asking if it's really right, or if it's really true. (btw, those direct benefits that you see are achievable without religion, so ultimately it has no use.)

  • MrFollowingjesus...well then, it's a good thing that YOU became a christian, as your pre-frontal cortex is obviously poorly developed. You've proven this twice over. First, because hurting others to get what you want is antisocial and extremely short-sighted. And second, because you have accepted an entire belief system that lacks scientific proof to support it.

  • well before i was a christian i was a bad person i hurt others to get what i wanted, then i found jesus and my life was changed through christ and now i wish to help others rather than harm them, and many others have done the same as i did, so their for it does help keep order and stop people from being bad

  • @MrFollowingjesus

So you used to hurt people, and the only thing stopping you from hurting people now is a imagined forgiveness (Which by the way does not make the people you hurt feel any better because it is a selfish deed) So now you accept a get out of jail card to make yourself feel better? Which also means you got what you wanted (The mentality of making yourself 'feel good') Just the sort of quick fix I expect that made no one but yourself feel good. How selfish are you?

  • Well the evidence shows the west went passed all other nations due to in part religion. Catholic and protestant. Have a look at Max Webers. The protestant work ethic.

  • How Religion Keeps Order In The World? Well usually through threats, intimidation, coercion, and indoctrination from my observations.

  • doesnt the constitution say were endowed w/ certain unalienable rights by our creator? so if u revoke God, then arent u revoking your rights? b/c if theres no God, then the govt tells u whatever u can and cant do... oh boy i smell a dictatorship

  • @PacmanBonez Did this "creator" write the constitution, does this "creator" upphold these rights? Or are they actually made and uppheld by people?

So when people are able to make they voice heard by voting/protesting among otherthings and people vote to elect the ones in power that decide how things are, its a dictatorship?

But when one "creator" decides this is the way things are, its not a dictatorship?

  • @Turha101 a slave to a perfect master? yes plz...

  • @PacmanBonez Dictatorship BAD!

    Dictatorship GOOD!

Its good you are consistent with your answers.

  • @Turha101 i said if the govt gives and takes your rights its a dictatorship. its different

  • @PacmanBonez How would this hypothetical god thats able to take or give rights be different from a dictatorship thats able to take or give rights, appart from that he would be able to cause more suffering since he has more power?

You are just simply asserting that this is the case. You also asserted that this hypothetical god would necessarily be treating us well.

And again a democracy, where you are actually able to elect the leaders of your country is far from a dictatorship.

  • 'And, behold, thusly was the Law formulated: Imposition of Order = escalation of Disorder!' [HBT; The Gospel According to Fred, 1:6] There is serenity in Chaos. Seek ye the Eye of the Hurricane. ‘From the Principia Discordia’ ‘Hail Eris, All Hail Discordia’ )|(
  • That kid came looking for a fight armed with a whiffle ball and got a nuclear bomb detonated in his living room. What an enjoyable ass raping dillihunty laid on this worthless religious faggot. We all know religion and all god concepts are dead. But its so enjoyable to relive the dying moment over and over and over again. The faithful have no where left to hid. Logic has shon its light into all the evil dangerous corners of its dogma.

  • He says Atheism has no dogmas or beliefs yet says immediately after it advocates rational thinking.

    Nice contradiction.

  • @Sneezlebob what a crazy dogma... "think for yourselves"... wow you're totally right, I guess you got him!

  • Two words. HOLY WAR.

  • @CommanderC4 One more word..Why?

  • @comanchio1976 Good question. Ask the people who wage them. The assertion that religion keeps order in the world is contradicted by the fact that it has it's very own type of war, notorious for being the worst of them all.

  • @CommanderC4 Haha right sorry, I wasn't sure of your perspective! I thought you were one of those fanatics who believes that those on the 'christian side' need to out-fanatic the muslim fundamentalists!

  • @comanchio1976 Its like watching the Nazis and the KKK fight it out for control of the world. Hopefully they'll kill each other off in the process.

  • @CommanderC4 Amen to that!

  • @CommanderC4

but they might blow us out of existence in the process

  • Boom.

Theists gone and done been served y'all.

  • "I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: 'O Lord make my enemies ridiculous.' And God granted it." --Voltaire

  • Well done lad.

  • Religion absolutely orders India, and the police simply make sure that the religious based laws are followed, and almost all modern laws in India are rationalized into the Hindu traditions. Most police and officers in the military belong to the Kashatriya caste, which is number 2 in rank under the religious Brahmins. Hindus generally scoff at Westernisms and claim they will still be there when we are gone. There is good reason to think they are right, as their culture is already 6000 years old.

  • "Evidence" is value-laden, and in many cases important and critical decisions have to be made without enough "evidence". And sometimes decisions are made on faulty evidence, the fault of which may not be known until the damage is done. "Evidence-based decision making" is useful in limited contexts when time is not critical and the evidence can be obtained. But even in the engineering field there is often not enough time and mistakes are made. Humanity moves too fast for "evidence!" always.

  • Well said Matt!

  • @Malignis

Well, as an atheist I can't argue with you about that. :-D But let's make it interesting and try to play a theist's advocate for a while... As a crafty theist :-P I would define a God as undetectable (obviously), not interfering, but also as a creator of everything and a caring and loving being (sort of "I love you, I feel your pain, but I won't interfere, sorry" :-P). That kind of God could be worshiped as a creator and also can be loved back, so it's existence would be useful. :-)

  • @Malignis

I mean, useful for a theist, obviously. :-P

This God can also have some plan with all the universe, so a theist can also have a calming feeling, that his life has a particular purpose.

This thinking for the other side reminds me my years in mathematical college: definitions, proofs, lemmas or... counterexamples. :-D

  • @CanadiaNecro1 so you rather live in a world where religious freaks stone people to death, molest children, kill everyone of different religions, race or ideals, gays etc.that would burn women to death.you support abuse of all levels.you think human sacrafices are moral.you think it be better if schools are churches that'll rape and abuse children and brainwash everyone in believing hell.where theres no medicine or machines.you think its okay to live where everyone is miserable, stupid and primitive

  • No I do not.

Society doesn't need a religious aristocracy, nor a government in order to be peaceful. My arguement is against authority be it the law or religion.

  • Eh. anarchy is not conducive to a stable society.

A system involving an authority works for convenience sake.

That authority should be regularly questioned and never blindly followed.

once a community surpasses a certain size, a certain peace keeping, dispute settling system is necessary.

  • Theres no way a multimillion people society can exist without laws and law enforcement these days. Even unwritten laws are still laws.

  • Let me see if I get this straight. Religion keeps the peace by encouraging acts of violence against people of different or no religion?

  • Religion keeps the peace? Ha, nothing separates people into groups and sets them against each other with riteous fervor like religion.

  • lol if it was religion that "keeps peace" there would be alot more stonings going on

  • It tries to keep order in the world because it has moral lessons but it doesn't because people construe Religion all they want. Many people voted for Bush just because he was Christian, regardless of his political views! What does THAT tell you?!

  • something as a side note the world cannot just change like a snap and proof god doesn't exist if that happens mass suicide laws will be broken...ect...welcome to hell? lol we need to change the world slowly maybe in one hundred years it will work out..but not now too many rednecks

  • Unfortunately, it is quite difficult to prove a nonexistence of anything. It acually reminds me video I recently saw here on Youtube called "What If God Disappeared?". :-)

  • it isnt that difficult, you just need to define what youre trying to disprove and prove why it cannot exist.

  • @VarykGerai

You're right, I didn't say that very well. :-) It is of course easy to prove a nonexistence of something, that is for instance logically in contradiction (e.g. omnipotent & omniscient being).

I was trying to make a point, that it is easy to come up with some definition of God, that is not disprovable (e.g. not interfering & undetectable God).

  • i hear this quote once and it made me smile and frown:- "religion, it gives people hope in a world being tore apart by religion"

i think this is a point that alot of religious peope miss

  • typo

    bush is christian*

  • "It's the police that keep the peace, as has been demonstrated countless times..."

I'd certainly dispute this claim. Often the police contribute to strife and the "peace", to the extent that they keep it, is an unjust one.

  • "Often the police contribute to strife..."

I wouldn't dispute that our criminal justice system isn't perfect nor that police officers can act unjust, but I don't know if the claim of "often" is justified. In any event, the point being made is that we create our own order -- however imperfect -- by social construct and has been refined throughout history.

  • I wonder how the religious answer this, why don't lion, tiger, wolf, etc. kill there own kind until only the last and strongest is left, as far as I know they're athiests?

  • kill their not there...their denotes ownership there denotes a place.

  • good thought and idea but, human beings can't even remotely comprehend the intellectual aspects of the animal mental process.

  • A very clear and concise answer to the question "What is atheism?"

  • I hate this argument. "But Religion has to be right or we're all doomed to destroy each other!!!" I wonder if the same people who think this honestly believe that they themselves will go on a killing spree tomorrow due to a lack of religion.

  • Anti-religion not anti-religious. outlawing religious movements is madness, restricting their influence on our society is essential!

  • Matt is a complete and utter badass.

  • Santa Claus keep children in order

  • Matt is the best host of the show! No doubt!

  • Matt Dillahunty is made of win

  • Matt is full of win.

  • Agreed. Jen is my #2.

  • Tracie is good too.

  • @ivarbt ...and Jen is no doubt the hottest host of the show! ;]

  • @ivarbt

Agreed. Matt is just the right balance of remaining calm, getting his point across, knowing pretty much everything about the bible at anytime, and knowing when to hangup.

  • Every church I've ever been to there are many that are back biting, gossiping, and trash talking other members. It's sad that they can't even live by what they believe in small groups. They also hate, yes HATE, those that oppose their world view. For example, I have often heard religious people claim they want to "gather up all the faggots and just nuke 'em" or "we should just nuke the middle east and get rid of 'em all." It's a fucking joke if you think religion keeps peace within a group.

  • I've also often wondered about Bush (keep in mine I'm not American)

He is a conservative Christian (from what I've seen?) well then how could he engage in war? It's seriously beyond me, innocent people have died because of George Bush- how is that Christian?

And even if he decided to kill tens of thousands of people because Muslims killed 3k Americans.. what happened to 'turning the other cheek'? Ever noticed how African tyrants and murderers call themselves freedom fighters? What about the US

  • our government is mostly a joke. at first i thought it was all a huge conspiracy, and we're getting our country stolen, now i can't really decide whether it's that or whether i am giving them too much credit and that they are just a bunch of fuckin morons.

and secondly, there are many American "Christians" who you would never believe were so unless they told you

  • bus us christian but christains believe that if ur not of their religion u r to be killed

the war bush started was a holy war he said that god told him to go there kill the dictatior and bring democray to their land

its a crusade he has started

  • Religion keeps peace within a group..

Let's love each other because we love the true path, but let's kill those because they disagree!

  • How refreshing. I´v been speaking to alot of irrational religous people recently and it makes you feel like your losing your mind. Indeed, the world needs more logical people like this. Keep it up.

  • I know exactly what your saying. Most of my friends and the people i talk to are fundimental evangelical christians. OMG I wanted to ripe my cloths off and live with the monkeys.. At least they dont feed there shit to there children.. lol.. anyway...yeah..

  • Indeed

  • This channel is the best thing that have happened in a very long time.

  • Well said!

  • Most enjoyable.

  • Open minded, logical people. This is what the world honestly needs. Maybe one day people will get out of the dark ages, stop believing in fairy tales, and see the world for how it really is scientifically and logically. Our morals have developed through the evolution of society, and maybe these extremist christian followers should stop and use logic to see that. They have to TEACH their children not to misbehave, god did not install that into their system. It's the norm in today's society.

  • You guys rock!! Keep up the excellence =)
