  • 20 years clean of snorting paracetamol and I can safely say the drugs don't work

  • this song is about his dad who died of cancer and how the medication didnt work btw , not actual drugs

  • The girl who went away ...

  • thumbs up for that chillin asian 4:00 :D

  • All the weed ive smoked hasnt changed a thing but help the time past by easier with out having to think of ma.

  • jesus, have not listen to this son in about fifteen years since I was a depressed teenager, shaven head, on booze and wanting to destroy mysely with a razor to my body/wrists, I still have the physical scars. It seems crazy to think I thought like that once, brings back very vivid memories does this

  • @MrSweatyPants well good thing it does seem crazy now!

  • my favourite verve song

  • it's a song for his Dad who was dying...

  • Would give anything to see this live!!

  • buenisima versionç

  • the drugs do fucking workkk I'm on themm ahahahahahah

  • i dont want to say goodbye dad ,

  • brilliant performance

  • Like the first time I heard it all over again...EPIC live performance

  • one of the best songs of the 90s

  • Brilliant song.

  • must i say this is one of my favorite performances wish i could have seen this in person... and i can say the drugs dont work, just a waste of money to kill yourself faster.

  • Drugs provide an illusion. Believe me, I've done them all. And it was always because I felt something was missing in me. There was nothing missing. Only my ability to be calm, and still, and see the beauty of the universe in the tiniest things. Go to the deserts, mountains, and oceans. Watch the sunrises and sunsets. Marvel at the life which surrounds you, and you will find peace and joy that is not an illusion. No, it's not easy, but it's not as hard as you imagine either. Peace be unto you.

  • This song means so much to me,it gave me strength at my lowest point, when i look back to the 90,s i was a fuckup.now i,m a 36 year old happy family man with a very good job, ashcroft is right music is power and music, lyrics, bands can drag you through the toughest times, nothing is easy in life, strength is key.respect to all.

  • Drugs totally work. Dont give up.

  • @TheDantuck5 your just a bit sore that theres a bit of competition in manny, christmas is coming up... why not ask mummy to buy you a blue 1 this year AHAHAHAHA prick

  • @TheDantuck5 6-1

  • @MCFCRuss One of my best friends died this time 2 years ago. We thought he had it under control, but I guess he zigged when he should have zagged. I know it's not easy, brah, but don't ever think you can't rely on the people you know to help you out over the rough patches. I still get mad as hell he didn't call me that night, or anyone else, instead of spiking. Had he done that he's still be alive today. Don't ever think it's weak or a bother to those who love you. They'll happily help you out.

  • @LeCutter sorry to hear that, i lost my best mate about 9 years ago, he had a heart condition and on crack, just walking along and droped dead on the spot aged 23, not good

  • @MCFCRuss Yeah, there's just no winning with this stuff, man. Anyway, keep the faith, bro.

  • @MCFCRuss

I'm happy for u. Life is to beautiful and precious to trow away with drugs.

But the song is not about 'drugs' but about medicin, for his sick and dying father.

It's a fantastic song about hope ("i will see your face again") love and loss.

But if it helps you to cope with an addiction, that's all that matters.

  • @PistOn1313 i know its about his dieing father, im just stating that other drugs dont work either

  • @MCFCRuss nice1 :-) happy for u :-) its easy to judge... but if you havent been there and done it well... dont judge on what you havent done.. thanx.. nice1 :-) ib take it ur man city ??? champions this season i think :-)

  • @matinism yep City fru n fru..a very ture say dont judge what you havnt done! champs hopefully, 1 can dream, ive followed City through thin n thinner lol thanks

  • I like drugs sometimes though.

  • have loved richie since my teenage days. don't listen much to this any more, but he is so good.

  • the sad part is that sometimes the only thing that works is drugs - it is an evil neccesity ... that i wish i could live without........

  • My favourite song of all time, love it:)

  • Beautiful song

  • this song gives me shivers when i listen to it.

  • i want to live in this song

  • 14 people's are smokers of drugs.

  • Comment removed

  • I want to go see these. Nothing like listening to it live

  • how the fuck can you not like this song ??

  • 14 people are out there nut on drugs amazing band

  • what a band,so under-rated,richard ashcroft,s vocal is second to none,urban hymns,a northern soul,2 classic album,s in my opinion.the drugs dont work is a musical masterpiece.brilliant.liam gallagher couldnt lace this guy,s boots.

  • Top banana. The best banana in the bowl, you know the one sat on the other bananas, above the apples, and the rogue satsuma from Xmas.

  • Can someone explane me why Oasis is relevant on this vid? Did Oasis do something wrong to The Verve? As far as I know, they only talked about The Verve & Richard Ashcroft with praise and going as far as being proud of them because they write great songs and Oasis were the ones that supported them from the beginning. They don't deserve the comments on here.

  • @EvelinevandeWinckel Because people constantly have to be putting down somebody. Look up the Stone Roses, every single video has the same negative comments about Oasis, even though Oasis have said the Roses were their biggest influence.

  • @nile590 Think you will find that the Smiths were Noel's biggest influence and the Beatles were Liam's , fact is Stone Roses , Beatles and Oasis were all great bands in there own way an thats what should be remembered and they were all British and they all made great music , END OF !

  • so much better than oasis could ever be

  • @smolinskiboi VERY true :-)

  • Thank you for the upload! They were amazing and I was on the front row, forgot that it was 2008 and thought it was 2009 but how can I forget Blur did 2009 and everyone was loving it.......except me and my pals! Verve were worth 10 of Blur!

  • Comment removed

  • Always get tearful when I listen to this song. So inspiring though, I'd listen to anything The Verve say, hence why I'll never touch drugs.

  • @seanrafferty100 woah there cowboy! talk about judging a book by its cover......jeez......

  • Oasis were always shit in comparison to these.

  • Amazing.

  • 13 peoples drugs were heroin which killed them shortly after

  • So much goosebums! It nearly hurts :)

  • ALWAYS get me chills and tears everytime I hear this :((

  • im fucking crying search a gorgeous song

  • Drugs delay.

  • 13 people are fucking idiots

  • I have depression ... drugs don't work

  • @budgieBurglar you haven't found the right drug. Antidepressants do very little for some people.

  • @budgieBurglar hope you manage to beat it :-) take care chin up :-)

  • @budgieBurglar Don't mean to sound clychee or something but LOVE DOES ;) (and I don't mean romance, I mean that love that thinks not about oneself but about others. You cannot feel low when you don't care how you feel, but how you make others feel. There are at least 2 good doctors for depression: Gautama Buddha and Jesus)

  • @sofoclebeat well said man. could use a lot more love for others in the world these days. but u missed out Dr. Herb! trust, he's fully qualified n all that jazz. oh yeah

  • love this song.... 100% top drawer ..

  • I really do like this song and drugs deffo dont work

  • wait!!!..is that an epiphone he's playing? I always thought it was the gibson one, if this really is epiphone then I am impressed :O

  • @Karu1no1saru it looks like an epiphone, but the gibson sj 200 is a better guitar.

  • @crazymusiclady1 It is an epiphone he's playing and i've seen him play it on other you tube clips too,but he plays the gibson j200 most of the time which is pretty much identical

  • @SuperAsp82 it's identical looks wise, but the gibson is a better crafted guitar which gives a better sound. That's weird that he has a gibson, but prefers to play the epiphone sometimes.

  • Who dislikes this ? Arse monkeys

  • such a bittersweet song.

  • canta d mais

  • 2:40 drummer accelerates :)

  • did they really split up???

  • how powerful at 3.07

  • drugs don't work BUT hope!!

  • I don't know about you but when Richard Ashcroft says drugs dont work - I take him seriously.

  • @Zannix1337 I remember hearing before that the drugs reference was in regard to the meds his mother was taking for cancer.

  • @cailinaschilldara It wasn't his mum, it was definitely his dad, I think after a long illness he died from a brain haemorrhage when Richard was around 12 years old... I think the meaning of the song is kind of universal though and that's what makes it a classic.... It can mean different things to different people but they all still get it.

  • @chevchelios77 Oh right, thanks for that. Yeah definitely, beautiful song.

  • ladfa

  • A singer is measured by his performance on stage. And it doesn't get much better than that. Fantastic.

  • amazing song amazing guy !

  • obergeil!!!!!!

  • *father* not mother sorry

  • this song isnt about bugle or recreational drugs its about his mother dieing from cancer listen to the words you fool

  • AWESOME. My favourite song of all time. Everyone has a song for there life & this is mine. I'm gutted I'll never get 2 see them live.

  • call of duty is awsome

  • imo the verve are better musicians than Oasis and ashcroft is a better singer than noel and liam but champagne supernova is the shizz fav song of the 90s

  • imo the verve are better musicians and ashcroft is a better singer but nothing beats champagne supernova, fav song of the 90s

  • Fuck Noell and Liam gallacher, Richard Ashcroft is THE REAL MAN !!! Best 90s band, and only infront of OCS not fucking oasis

  • @pikeflyfisherman wash your mouth out with soap n water.. Liams a cock, but Noel GENIUS!

  • @MCFCRuss No way bro, Rich is the man !

  • @pikeflyfisherman Rich & Noel are the mans !

  • @MCFCRuss Ok, lets leave it that haha :D

  • @pikeflyfisherman ok bud, bye : D

  • omg the lyrics... amazing!!

  • "This songs called the drugs dont work" Then wipes the bugle of his hooter! Hahaha gew on ashcroft!

  • I absolutely love this song. Ashcroft is amazing. But IMO, Noel Gallagher still has him beat as a writer and performer. Don't Look Back In Anger, Where Did It All Go Wrong, Slide Away. To me, those are the best songs of the generation. This is definitely up there though!

  • i feel so sad and ....god help me

  • he looked liked drugged! his face is so thin! hahahaha

  • Saddest song i've heard in a long long while

  • HAVE A LISTEN TO US, IF WE GET ENOUGH VIEWS WE WILL BE ON RADIO 1!!

  • We need to her the La la la

  • great live band

  • do African child!!!

  • when he sings this live, esp here at Glasto, all the emotions just pour out

  • This ls SO AWESOME

  • I started to lose it at 4:38 -- he his a pure high note there that tugged some deep emotion -- mercy

  • @polarart809 I started to lose it at 0:01 :')

  • Still brings a tear to my eye this performance, was there with a few mates (and my best mate), who shortly after lost his battle with cancer. The song fits so well and though you're gone mate, you will forever be in my heart.

  • @k2hfb Fighting against Cancer is an awful fight, right now im doing it also. Hopefully we will one day win over cancer.

  • @CloudStrife890727 thumbs up to you, not the cancer!

  • @k2hfb your comment brought a tear to my eye. <3

  • A Man With A Great Voice

  • the verve are my drug n they DO work

  • Fucking brilliant. The British. Naturals... It is in the water.

  • @greyer111

    it's in the beer :-)

  • did he just say "the drugs dont work" and then wipe coke off his nose?

  • This is pure music, no words to describe this piece of art.

  • Great artists:

    Damon Albarn

    Richard Ashcroft

    Cee Lo Green

    David Bowie

All these artists sing with their souls.

    Thumbs if you agree

  • @yackemflamber

You have a very narrow music view of the world....it is not that your choices are bad but they are not the be all and end all.

  • @sanacore2011 He didn't say nor imply that they are...

  • @yackemflamber greatest : noel, liam gallagher and ashcroft

  • @dreck93 that is definitely more like it

  • @dreck93 Morrissey and David Gilmour are tops of that list.

  • 10 dislikes? I didn´t know baboons owned computers...

  • addictive stuff indeed......

  • chills down my spine... the "cat in a bag" part just touches something deep in me.

  • what a singer

    great

    great

    great

    he´s great

  • One of the best songs ever written by one of the greatest songwriters ever !!!!

Shame the Verve didn't last longer :-( !!!

  • Rubbing his nose while saying that drugs don't work, priceless :)

  • the man has charisma... there's no other way to say it

  • I live four miles away from Glasto and go every year, this was immense

  • chill bumps.DAMN

  • @folladordeprostis

i wouldnt say oasis are better, their both amazing bands

  • Great song, but oasis is better

  • God, amazing singer

  • I Love Oasis with a passion but they do use the same tune through 70% of their songs (The tune from Wonderwall more than any).

  • @TheVerve480 The only other song they used the Wonderwall chords is D'you know what I mean? So, what you're saying isn't true;)

  • @Leslie091 Stand By Me, Whatever, Don't Look Back In Anger, All Around The World, Hello (The opening) All use that tune at least..

  • even more amazing live!

  • the best song of the verve

  • R.I.P.TRIX....

  • drugs don´t really work

  • Love this song!

  • Ashcroft is a genius..arguably the best british musician of the last 20 years, up there for sure alongside Noel Gallagher.

  • @e1994y yes but not better than one Mr ROGER WATERS.... :)

  • @e1994y Noel is up there with Richard mate. Noel has never written a song like this.

  • @e1994y Noel is up there with Richard mate. Noel has never written a song like this or History or On your own...

  • @e1994y Ummmmmm don't you mean Thom Yorke?

  • @furiousharpo i was gonna ask the same question!! :)

  • @e1994y and we know we'll see his face again!!!

  • Was there and without doubt one of THE sets of the last 20 years. made my top 5 gigs ever list and Glastonbury on a Sunday is the best place on the planet, and this band made it even more special as I stood there in 2008 with my 7 months pregnant girlfriend :-)

  • Comment removed

  • anybody knows what guitar he has??

  • @jkeshavarzi

    gibson j200 standard.

same as mine. or should i say i own the same guitar as Sir richard Ashcroft.

  • My Brother "Chandi" passed away 09/03/2009 after struggling for 3 weeks in the ICU. Drugs realy didn't work there. This song perfectly written for him also. R.I.P. My great Brother!! I miss you for ever in this painful, painful life.

  • @pubudu666 Oh man, I so sorry for you pain. May you know only happiness in your life. Have a kid and name it after your loved brother. People die only when we forget them. This is how your brother's name will be remembered long after you are gone.

    Peace.

  • @adamsv1000 Thank you for sharing the pain with me. you realy have a soft warm heart which is nice to know. I hope every man in this world have a heart like you. Cheers!!!

  • @pubudu666 Thank you mate. I do understand very much what you are going. Keep living your life and never be afraid to be happy and enjoy happiness. Listen to a lot of music, that helped me out in my hardest times and believe me that I had many of those. Only good music would help cause "the drugs don't work".

I wish you all the best mate. Try to enjoy life, they are so great and wonderfull.

    Peace.
