  • Every American should spend a couple years driving in a third world country...........In these countries, the rules of driving gets thrown out the window, One needs to drive better, more aware, more skilled, forever vigilant............If one retains the code of driving learned in the States....upon a return to the States...one will be a better driver.

  • @RichardEllisxyz this is true in my country 80km/h is the speed limit on the highway but most people go about 160-240km/h and the police is ok with that

  • I'm 17 and I think every one of my guy friends I have, say they are good or "skilled" drivers..... LOL

  • The new Ford Focus parks it self...>.<

  • hsuahsuasuahsaushas

  • That was probably the most profound analogy of the current driver situation I have ever seen. Well said Alex.

  • Nice :-)

  • Nice :-)

  • Good job Alex! Bring it more!

  • that was deep

  • Hey Alex, I know there is some 5 year rule for videos in Europe, so will you release some GUMBALL 2006 Footage?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Isn't driving 90+ for extended distances on highways fun?

  • Great Episode. I just finished 3,000 miles in a semi during military training. Man, does that give you a different view on the road. There are some downright stupid and careless drivers out there.

  • @autofixation Agreed. I once almost got into an accident with someone who had kids in the car, because they decided they had the right away to turn right on red and cross all 3 lanes in front of flowing traffic. It's one thing to endanger yourself or other drivers on the road, but when it comes to children, it's just downright unacceptable. Some people shouldn't have licenses or need more lessons in driver safety.

  • Drive a motorcycle for a few years and you get a better understanding of the dangers of driving. Unless you are an idiot driver, than there is no hope.

  • First Road Testament where i've hit the "like" button!!! Thank you very much!!

  • I like this guy (no homo)

  • Very good episode.. Thumbs up Alex.

  • I will agree, on everything that Alex says, but my drivers course was so hardcore, I would love saying it but then haters and shit would search, bla bla.

Gary and A - HARDCORE I was always ready for alot, and my driving instructor always hung out at a big big race track.

  • What makes things even more grim is the fact that we (USA) have one of the lowest standards for driver's ed; we allow teenagers to drive way too early (my opinion), and with minimal training. Alex, as someone whom has driven in many countries, you can attest that road discipline is far superior in many countries, especially in parts of Europe. Ultimately, that discipline derives from proper driver's ed, as well as stringent law enforcement.

  • A good video Alex... but you stil annoying me..:p

  • like idiiots who are trying to get on the freeway doing 30 mph. i hear ya.

  • @emutiny OMG!!!! i hate those ppl! that is seriously not safe! there is a reason there is a RAMP and not an intersection to get on the dang highway!

  • this is a good video. I like it.

  • So when are you going to explain how you didn't get a single ticket?

  • @lax18xal Radar detector's, laser jammers, police scanners, bionoculars, CB radio, and spotter plane helped... But in his book and his speeches he pretty much said it all came down to luck.

  • Thats a pretty shameless google plug their alex.. There your sponsor arnt they.. Bias much? ;)

  • @fatasdat yea like google needs him to plug them.... if you are on this sight you probably know about google.

    Dont be a troll

  • @fatasdat At the time that Alex made the speech at google he wasn't apart of FLD, nor was FLD part of google. His speech was about how he used google earth when planning his route. He also added some unseen clips from this trip across country.

  • Humans are prone to making mistakes, thats how we have evolved to the beings we are today.

There will always be car crashes, this is something we just have to get on with.

It doesnt matter if your the best driver in the world, someone or something can go wrong.

Lets just be thankful that you have to earn the right to drive (license, test etc).

Thats as good as it gets, even if computers were to drive us everywhere there is always the chance of a collision.

  • 5 out of 9000 people are going to die in a car crash......what a load of bullshit. Theres no way thats anywhere near the statistical average.

Maybe you were hoping for more views right????

  • @16jroxanne16 stop spamming every video with your bullshit scamming/phishing site :P

  • I find this video very difficult to masturbate to..

  • I love this story. Watt who invented the radar system to detect aircraft in WWII was later in his retirement reportedly was pulled over in Canada for speeding by a radar-gun held by a policeman. His remark was: "Had I known what you were going to do with it I would never have invented it!"

  • He never got pulled over cause he has a radar scanner. Just another dick who thinks he knows everything.

  • Good Vid would like to see some more video of youre race tho haha

  • Very good video... they should do these once a month... I consider myself a good drive because I'm serious about driving, surroundings and always thinking about what happens next.. However, time wasting devices such as cellphones do not interest me. Music on the other hand is good.. but I like the sound and feel of my car more than anything. nothing else matters.

  • I went to a decently aflutter high school. That now due to budget cuts has gotten rid of the mandatory drivers ed theory class required by all10th graders, and the optional 5hrs of behind the wheel instruction

  • There's a difference between being 'good' or 'bad' and 'below average' or 'above average'.

For instance, it's likely that 90%+ of people would describe themselves as 'good' at doing their shoelaces. There's nothing impossible about more than half of people being 'good' at something.

  • @petfoodonly You're correct. But statistically, 50% of drivers have to be worse than the other 50%.

  • @adv0cat3 Yeah, no doubt. But it's an entirely valueless and meaningless statistic. The observation that most teenagers think they have below average looks or most drivers think they're better than average is sort of funny - but the video is about good, bad and dangerous drivers. Not quirky statistics.

    I suspect we're in vigorous agreement :)

  • .....i didn't know my all seasons couldn't take that 45mph curve at 120mph.....physics is a bitch!...this guy is so right on. I am one of "those" drivers that calculate temperature, wind speed, type of terrain..(tarmac/blacktop/rock/dirt/ect.), speed, and something that very few think of and that is the amount of space needed to brake from whatever speed. I LOVE driving and that is why I consider myself a better than average driver.

  • He got chubby-er

  • @biglandfarm I like chicken wings...

  • @polizei144 glad your paying attention to the commenter, my comment might not contribute much to the discussion...but other people are making very good arguments, and your replying to those...your saving lives here... good work, please keep it up

  • @polizei144 chicken wings are awesome! i like the BBQ ones =)

  • Awesome show, wondering where I can find more information on to what Alex was speaking about specifically about driver education (I was hoping he was going to elaborate more). BTW don't try that trans-contential run unless you understand what Roy and Maher went through in preparation. Oh, sorry didn't like the background music kind of lame. Still a great show!

  • driver saftey, didn't he race accross the US? lol!

  • Good message/show music was too loud and a distraction.

  • Strongly agree with the message here. So true...

  • This can be used as an intro to a very good Driver ED Video

  • Well put.

  • He didn't have to have such a condescending tone. He's just as liable as we all are.

  • @Xyrophobia Just out of curiosity, who qualifies to get your attention on this topic? Michael Schumacher? Ralph Nader? Robert Opron?

  • @polizei144

I don't need a celebrity. Just a look at reality will do. My complaint is against his condescending tone. If he's sitting there telling me that we're all to blame, then he has to take more blame for putting other drivers at risk in his little ride across transcontinental America.

  • @Xyrophobia You realize the polizei144 is Alex Roy's youtube user name? He isn't passing the blame. In fact there were no accidents caused at all by Roy or Maher on their run.... There was one time when a driver almost rolled infront of them as they went from far left lane to right lane to get an exit they almost missed. And yes that video is released on 32hours7minutes

  • 5 motherfucking stars to you, sir.

    great video.

  • Stop trashing on Alex Roy

He knows what he's talking about

    I know this man personally

and I would drive with him any day

smartest guy behind the wheel of an M5

you haters - fuck off !!!

  • I like how every comment on this video was made by polizei144.

  • @Vidszhite It's because I'm the only one who replies to replies -Alex

  • the faster you drive the safer you are.

  • Great job FLD

  • All these haters on this video are the fucks that do not pay attention. You fuckers are the ones that think you are "excellent" drivers. You all are going to be a statistic. What he said is so damn true. And, yes, he knows what the fuck he is talking about. How many of you haters/trolls have been to TWO racing schools and set a cross country record in the U.S. with 0 tickets..... Thats what I thought... Shut your mouths when it comes to cars you haters. You have no place on the road.

  • @PorschephileRS Lol, they do unfortunately have a place on the road: usually in the car that cuts you off, rear-ends you, or goes in the ditch.

  • @PorschephileRS Your use of profanity really detracts from your argument.

  • @angelfishgod Omit the profanity. It works.

  • @PorschephileRS another example of how the right message was lost with the wrong delivery

  • @PorschephileRS i have i was driving a honda so it was pretty much impossible to get a ticket haha

  • @PorschephileRS i have i was driving a honda so it was pretty much impossible to get a ticket haha oh and he had the radar in his car so take that into consideration

  • @PorschephileRS lol yea man, anyone who hates on Mr Roy, is a young american home boy rollin in his shitty pimped out caddy

  • Everything Alex Roy said i agree with 1000%. Yes we can bulid safer cars but if that person thats driving the car cant drive then all of that i worthless. We need to really focus on teaching our new and OLD driver on to really how to drive a car. Alex, well done.

  • Amen. While the presentation is a bit off it's 100% true. People need to learn driving dynamics. In Finland they put 12 year old kids on skidpads as part of their driving exams (yes, it takes YEARS to get the license. You have to be able to powerslide a car before you can get a license.

All this safety stuff is getting ridiculous. Terrible handling cars with garbage brakes are considered super safe because they have 11 airbags and can take a hit. I rather have a car that can AVOID the hit.

  • I need airbags to save me from the tree I will understeer into from the weight of all the safety equipment.

  • He Recorded Something He Did Illegaly? What A Dumb Ass!

  • @RaysInsaneWorld Except for the part where the FBI invited me to speak on the topic of speeding and technology... Best, Alex

  • When I speed a little (20-30% over the limit) the police get up my ass, pull along side into oncoming traffic, and gesticulate something along the lines of "move your ass, you're holding up traffic. When I speed a LOT, like 130mph+, they give me big thumbs ups and/or cup their ears to tell me they want to hear more.

    God I love Italy :D

  • @LG396 what do you drive?

  • @eeeen321 I think you figured it out already :)

  • @LG396 I DID!!! :D awesome cars, lol, to say the least.... a Gallardo AND a Maranello! wtf

The Gallardo flames are insane, especially the WOT flames!

  • @eeeen321 LOL, not a Maranello. Maranello the place, great hill/mountain roads, hundreds of corners, and of course heaps of Ferraris to toy with :D

  • @LG396 Oh, my bad, hahaha...... :( bummer, I love the 550/575.... great sound, and an insane interior and exterior.

But regardless, the WOT flames from your Gallardo is one of the coolest things I've seen.

  • Rapist glasses.

  • I think I just vomited. That was rubbish.

  • @mikeymike1792 Is your last name Andretti?

  • @polizei144 I wish! Unfortuantely not.

  • pretty awesome presentation, thank you !!

  • i dont like this guy at all

  • @larryollie Then we're even. Was it my glasses?

  • @polizei144 its ur tone and attitude....

  • Alex,I`ll be honest and tell you that this episode WAS CREEPY AS FUCK!!!Srsly

  • @MUSTANGmaniak2010 Sorry, bro...I know it was the glasses.

  • Eh. I'm sorta like James May. I'll drive fast when its okay and the roads are clear and up to it. Otherwise, I'm fairly slow. Haven't gotten a ticket.

Or, just take the women off of the road. =P

  • Comment removed

  • someone please shoot me, the fat man is annoying as hell

  • in estionia, it's quite the opposite.

U have to complete the driving school(20hrs of driving(it'll change to 30 in july), theoretical and driving exam + first aid) and then go to state's car registration center, where u have to do driving and theory again...

BUT 70% of ppl pass the driving exam on 2nd try, less than10% pass with 1sttry. Driving exam means that you have to drive for 1h totally PERFECT.

This winter they warned in west -europe not to drive as fast as cars with EST, lol.

    win

  • So to summarize, the most effective way to save lives on the road is to not make any errors and for more people to understand physics? Seems incredibly vague to me. I don't recall anytime in the video where he mentions anything about driver education.

  • I thought this was a great episode.. couldn't agree more with what he is saying, driving standards in the US suck!! any retarded 16 year old who knows how to turn on their headlights can get a license!!

  • From one extreme to another is how you understand the aspects of anything. Alex Roy has done just that. He is here to inform and help make changes on the way we drive. Take a look into Finish driver education compared to American, you will all be surprised (no wonder why there are many great drivers from Finland).

  • He's got the serial killer look...

  • bad music i could not stand it sorry good info but baaaaddd background music

  • Alex, thanks for the best road testament ever. For all of those bitching about how his record and driver safety are opposites, you seem to have this idea that speed and safety are mutually exclusive which just isn't true. Those who care enough to test the limits of their vehicles are the ones who know these limits when some bozo changes lanes without looking. If anything, Alex's experience should make him a road safety expert by default.

  • Fuckin shit ass youtube. Never lets me play the whole video

  • The fuck is with the glasses?

  • @Bansheeflyr Hard to believe, but they're my first pair of prescription glasses.

  • @polizei144 OOoo i see. But lol, couldnt you have gotten some more stylish ones? Im SURE you could have

Just to give you an idea, now all you need is a mustache and a creepy hat and your set!

  • @Bansheeflyr I know they're weird. I'm buying new ones.

  • Ok, you're statistics. You have looked at the geographic breakdown of your views right? Because it's no good saying "1 in 1000 people die in RTAs in America" then multiplying it by 5000 global viewers.

Now, "the other half of drivers..." utter bullshit. You haven't got a fucking clue and I don't think you really know shit about physics, or driving for that matter.

  • @scarble you know ild like to make a come back but i just be going down to your level but the messege here is that a lot of young drivers are dangerous.

  • @wakojako49 Yould (sic) like to but you can't think of one because there isn't one? Because I'm right? This is complete bullshit, nothing useful is said. This is just Alex pretending he knows something we don't, acting like he's somehow a beacon of virtuosity and a great philosopher, imparting his moral wisdom to make the world a better place.

A car accident IS A FUCKING CAR ACCIDENT.

Yes I mad. Fuck you Alex.

    "Physics is a harsh mistress"

  • @scarble You must be an expert in....something...but semantics? Not so much.

  • @polizei144 how do you mean?

  • well done m8 , next time beat the longest drift in trafic record ~!!!

  • 6 seconds in and I'm all "the fuck is this shit?"

Alex gets holier than thou in a PSA.. I might watch it one day, but I doubt it.

  • Best Road Testament Ever

  • So true Alex. Great episode.

  • That is what i worry most on the road, I, myself m not competitive on the road, I do get the urge to do so, but I ignore it. But I know others don't and can't. honking, hating others to cut in front, change lane at the last second, don't signal... just think, what is the point!? I mean, go 70mph help you save 8.6 minutes for an hour drive. Most people travel with in 30 to 40 mi or less daily, so going 70mhp save roughly 4.3 mins only per day. It ain't worth it. Unless passing, otherwise dont.

  • In a nutshell, people need to go to more track days

  • But Physics is one SEXY beast... totally worth it... like Derek D ;)

  • That wasn't a 'parente' [I caught your up-front comment!]. That was a 'ROY'!

    Well done, sir.

  • sadly you din't reach the target audience and rambled on and on. we can always use statistics to try and explain why Driver education Fails in the US, but the reality is different than statistics alone. Better driver education won't solve the problem all together. technology is a major cause of Accidents something that even good drivers fall prey on. Accidents are Accidents simply by the fact of it no being a planned event, people don't plan on having a accident.

  • Very down to Earth and honest. Good stuff. Hate to ask though: is 32 Hours 7 Minutes ever coming out?

  • @ArthrusGigawitAnteon I wish. Ask Cory Welles. Tell her I sent you.

  • so glad i live in a country that has made me do multiple advanced driver courses and defensive driver courses but hey we still have dickheads on our roads just wish the government would realise that speed camera's arnt the answer

  • it's all legal until you get caught.

  • in a nutshell, physics is a bitch.

  • True dat!

  • I raced SCCA Spec Miata for a few years, and I do believe racing makes you a better driver for a number of reasons (reading other drivers'/vehicles' "body language", car control, anticipating events, etc.). And it's obvious that driving is the most dangerous thing, by far, that most people do -- and it's taken all too lightly. ...But I have no idea what point this video is trying to make. There's no logical progression. It's like A + B = cats hate dogs, therefore peanut butter. Huh? Yeah.

  • Rant much?

  • road testament making a comeback finally!!! :D

  • What needs to happen is WE need to adopt Finland's driver education program here in the US. If you haven't seen it look it up then you'll see exactly why we need it here!

  • finally alex you talk about what makes you a good host on fld. its about time ppl realize your actually a cool guy

  • i agree. good point scca licensing should be mandatory, this will raise the driving skill of everyone on the roads, traffic will move faster and road networks will become more efficient as a result productivity of companies and over all economy will improve. In Toronto, there is a statistic that if the main highway that goes through the city center stays still for 1 hour it would cost the city nearly 1 million dollars.

  • JESSICA BARTON FOR HUMPDAY GIRL OF THE WEEK

  • Here's a stat for you Alex... 90% of the shit that comes out of your mouth is full of shit.

  • @eatnow3 Here's a stat for you. Break 31:04, and I'll promote your comment.

  • this road testament as well as the past one, are great and more interesting ones.

  • I love at the end of this video. "were livin in the fast lane baby"

  • How can anyone take this guy seriously? Everything I'm reading about this guy is about speeding, doing dangerous things and making money. He beats some ridiculous record to drive across the US and writes a book about it. Now he's telling us to drive safely in his I'm-better-than-you body language and vocal tone. I hope this guy wasn't paid to be on Fast Lane Daily.

  • @StaatlichesBauhaus You missed the whole point of this show. Your post speaks of jealously!

  • @StaatlichesBauhaus

His message isnt about driving "safer", but rather about improving driver skill through education.

  • @StaatlichesBauhaus YEAH., he paid all right, he is.

  • @StaatlichesBauhaus think about it like this its the message not the messenger did you get the message

  • driving safely doesn't mean driving slow

  • @StaatlichesBauhaus He should be taken seriously precisely BECAUSE he's experienced that stuff. He knows what can go wrong, and how to make everything go right behind the wheel. Yeah he seems a bit of a prick, but who doesn't at some point or another? The main reason he seems like that to you is because he's speaking from experience, which makes you feel somehow inferior. In other words he's 'talking down' to you. Which is reasonable because most drivers in this country need that, they're stupid

  • @StaatlichesBauhaus : So you've never broken the speed limit, had a one-night stand and don't have a job? These are the items where you and I differ.

  • @StaatlichesBauhaus I take it seriously, as should all Americans, because the topic is serious, it does not matter who is talking about it... unless your unwilling to listen to reason/fact because of pre-formed bias?

Alex Roy is not just some ass driving fast, he does act like a douche sometimes on TRT, but that does not take away from what he has done. He has knowledge and skills concerning this topic, regardless of hypocrisy.

    Great episode

  • mommy im scared, a car is going to come in my room and eat me :( I just think they should make the drivers license more intuitive and as good as European standards. Rain, snow, night training, all that sh*t. I think any f*ckin idiot with half......no.... a 1/16th of a brain can get a driver license here, and if u cant pass the current test.... then there should be mandatory hand removal. But what'ev

  • ummm im not trying to be a dickhead but dude why talk like a professor oh n ending sucked but i admire ur talents also FLD Rules!

  • The powers that be need to reduce the population. They could care less about whether you are a crappy driver or not as long as you are buying their gas. They probably like it when you crash because the insurance premiums go up, the hospitals make a profit, you'll need to buy a new car, the ambulance ride and the police had work to do protecting the scene. Just think of how many people would be out of work if people suddenly became great drivers. Don't get your hopes up there's too much invested.

  • what is with the sound quality?

  • Mandatory SCCA licensing to be able to drive a car in this country? BRILLIANT. No seriously, thats the fucking greatest idea i have ever heard.

  • I think the most important thing on the road is knowing your car, and knowing EXACTLY how good you are; that way if you do anything you know exactly what your limits are and exactly how far you can go before you put yourself in danger. me I'd say I'm better than good but not great, I've spent time on a track in both real cars and go-karts, I've also grown up with a dad and uncle who have taught me how to drive properly (not what's needed to get a license but the more important things

  • Damnit Alex Roy, you jinxed me. I'm gonna get a ticket this week.

  • Thank god!! Explained to the best detail!

In my opinion people should get tickets for BDAS

    Being Dumb As Shit

  • Who gives a fuck if he looks like a pedophile. He just said the single most important idea that the world doesn't seem to get about driving. The only way to prevent deaths from car crashes, is to prevent the crash all together, and the only way to do that is to have better drivers. If you think about it, its sad that car companies spend millions of dollars on safety, when a safer car isn't going to prevent a crash. And with crashes there will always be deaths

  • NOW that's how you do a RoadTestament

  • thank god for Alex Roy

  • wow alex great episode

i been waiting for this one

    not a regular commenter

    but DRIVER SAFETY IS FIRST

  • 3:03 THAT WOULD SUCK!

  • This episode was awesome. Driver safety is crucial to saving lives. I wish people were more into understanding how a car can and cannot be controlled. US standards for driver safety are deplorable. I consider my self to be a "good" driver... definately better than most but there are a lot of things I do not know and I am car enthusiast.

  • thats why i think that the U.S. should come up with a standard of driving, making it like a racing school and have every single aspect of how to be a safe driver and a great driver, so it will eliminate every moron on the road. and if you dont pass it you cant drive/ get a license period!

  • This road testament was great Alex. I believe myself to be a "Great Driver" and at times do drive fast, very fast. I have had one or two close calls while driving fast. I

    WRX Owner

  • So the solution is clear.

Everyone in America needs to start driving 1970s Era Matra F1 cars with LOW FORCE AND MINIMAL DRIVE AIDS.

    :D

  • @nagasako7 I TOTALLY agree with THIS guy.

  • That was just weird. I think I got the message and totally agree but the delivery was just strange.
