  • I have known this poem for so long. Throughout my childhood I read it to myself from a beautiful poetry book i recieved from my grandma, who has now passed away. Once i knew there was a song of it, I listened to it time and time again, every second, just to snatch back those happy memories my grandma, grandpa and I had. Whenever, i had the chance, i would listen to Loreena's voice whispering the memories of my childhood. Thank you Loreena McKennitt, for bringing those thoughts back to me xxx

  • This is one amazingly well sculptured song, excellent haunting music & vocals. I've just purchased the CD that this song is from, superb.

  • this is a sad poem i wonder why she looked to camelot when she did not want to ????????

  • @TheXTENTENXNejix She looked down to Camelot because Lancelot made her forget that she had a curse upon her... Hope this helps :)

  • @felixtheboy1 thanks

  • @TheXTENTENXNejix No problem! :)

  • thanks for this !!!!!

  • Perfection

  • Absolutely beautiful!!! I'd love to sing this along with her

  • Makes me think of Anne of Green Gables ^^

  • I'm totaly besoted with this song. my history teacher in college introduced me to this artist. <3 now I can't stop listening to Loreena's songs

  • Reminds me of......Lèolo!When he's running, towards the end of the credits...awe!How that movie makes me cry.

  • My nose is running and my eyes hurt, damn onions

  • сука блядь - плакал, сука...

  • I am not ashamed to admit that this song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Seldom was I so touched by a single piece of music. Loreena McKennitt truly has a great gift. Thank you for uploading the song and providing the beautiful lyrics.

There is a fine line between critical and insulting. This is insulting and I will not allow such comments on my videos, toward myself or to others who comment. If you don't like it don't comment and don't watch my videos. Thanks.

Also I have removed the post. Please remember that if you wish to post on my videos, do it in a polite way. You can be critical and leave negative comments WITHOUT being rude. It's called human decency. Again, thank you.

  • Beautiful...!!!

  • First of all let me personally thank you for this amazing post. I love the poem .. Lord Alfred Tennyson. is just a magical poet. He brings the story to life and Lorenna McKennitt is absolutely enchanting.. Her voice is the Quintissential Ethereal Beauty. I have long been a lover of Medieval History.. days of Chilvary and Knights in Shinning Armor on white horses, courtly love. The Lady of Shallot has been a love of mine for long time. I love tragedies they are the quintiessential dark beauty.

  • Absolutely amazing...thanks very much!

  • wow, I loved the poem, then I was just cruising youtube and this! greatness

  • Thank you for putting up the lyrics - what a beautiful version of a timeless poem

  • I noticed that on all of these songs by Loreena McKennitt there's only 1 dislike. I think she has an ex-boyfriend that runs around hating on her. That's the only explanation for the dislike on any of this stuff. It's fantastic!

  • What font are the lyrics in? I love that font.

  • @TomMSTie1138

I never saved the draft for this video (as it was the first lyrical video I had done, and looking back it was done quite badly and I never saved drafts back then...) but I do believe I remember the font being Tempus Sans ITC, because I used that font quite often until I got a bunch of new ones. I hope this helps! -Midi

  • @midievalfantasy Thank you very very much. :)

  • I actually found this by listening to Emilie Autumn's Shallot. I became intrigued as to what it was she sang of, believing it to be based off Sleeping Beauty. Well, I stumbled across this by accident, and I can say I'm sad I hadn't found it earlier; I love this. I'm not the biggest lover of poetry; I much prefer works of prose. But by Jove, this is beautiful! The picture, and the voice, and the simple rhyme scheme; it all just adds to the mystery and otherworldly amazement of the poem. Thank you

  • @markuskus555

Thank you for your comment! I bought the song Shallot by Emilie Autumn, It is a wonderful song, and I love listening to it! Loreena does an outstanding job with the poem. If this is the first you have heard of it- I would encourage- beg you even- to read the original poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Loreena moves some things around, and shortened the poem greatly for purposes of making a song from it, I suppose. The poem in its entirely is astounding. -Midi

  • @midievalfantasy Make no mistake, I will definitely be searching avidly for the full version now. Ooooh, I do believe I may be developing a liking for poetry!

    ... God help me.

  • Lovely face .

  • For many years I have known this poem. My grandmother use to read it to me in my childhood. As I sit here listing repeatedly, with a few tears in my eys thinking about the times with my grandma and the many happy poems we shared. When she passed a way sevral years ago. I thought I would never hear the same emotions from the poem as I just did for my first time by Loreena McKennitt. Thank you.

  • @Incandg

I am glad that this song can bring those memories to the surface. I was raised by my grandmother, and we've shared many poems together over the years. It is something very special. I am so happy that Loreena was able to inspire those emotions. What a lovely comment!

  • I first heard this poem in my brittish literature class, and right after we read the poem my teacher played this song. It struck a chord with me, and ever since it has been my favorite poem and song. Loreena's voice is so hauntingly and tranquilly beautiful, I love her music.

  • lol i was so sad when my teacher read the ending... cant believe she died

  • first I heard it in school. my english teacher showed us this is so beautiful *.*

  • @pocketpoppy16

That is how I learned of the song, as well.

    -Midi

  • @midievalfantasy

Same here! My parents have a Loreena McKennitt cd I've loved for years, and Monday (after we finished reading Sir Gawain and the Green Knight), my English teacher played this for us! I must have listened to it nigh fifteen times since! :-)

  • @midievalfantasy me too

  • @pocketpoppy16 funny because I heard it in my contemporary European History class, here comes the irony, i was doing english homework though lol

  • Very well done.

  • This is so moving to me. Its amazing.

  • This is great. I love being able to see the words and hear the full version of the song.

  • @lisaannejane2

I am glad that I was able to make a video that brought you pleasure! Thanks for watching!

  • The only eleven minute song worth listening to

  • Yeah the full version! The one I have is only about 2/3 as long

  • One person is half sick of shadows.

  • @Camalot777

Hell, everyone has a right to their opinion. It was bound to happen sooner or later. Just as I doubt one person will be the only one to ever dislike the video. In honesty, this was my first real video. Were I to redo it, it would be 10 times better than what it is now.

    -Midi

  • so pretty!! I love so much this poem, Loreena McKennitt made a great work singing it!

  • :'( its beautiful! but so ironic! and sad!

  • So pleased to find this, her "full" version, as on album "The Visit". I saw Loreena McKennitt on a stage 20 years ago in London alongside the great Kate & Anna McGarrigle (likewise Canadian). Alas, there are many very shortened versions on Youtube. But it has to be ... long - the full thing, "the full McKennitt". I remember thinking "what's this now?" as she began, way back in 1991, then finding myself slowly mesmerised, held, swept down the river with the Lady herself.

  • @jarabaa

I believe in order to fully appreciate this song, you need to listen to the entire song. McKennitt is an amazing artist and her songs are always a pleasure to listen to.

  • Beautiful. But howcomes that when I close my eyes, do I think of Joni Mitchell?

    Must be love.

  • You guys need to work on making your comments shorter, sheesh. I feel like im in a discussion group. But anywho.........................this is one of my all time fave songs.

  • I love this... lol raise your hand if you cried! *raises hand so high that it comes off XD* Seriously though, this is my new favorite poem! Right up there with "the Raven" and "Sonnet #18" (Shakespeare). And I absolutely love Loreena's gorgeous voice! Perfect for this... hauntingly beautiful... XD

  • @HipHopOpatamus47

Thanks! If you love the Raven, check out the video I made for it by Omnia (they start singing about 2 minutes in). It is a great version of the Poe poem. I also have another Poe Poem (The Sleeper) that you might like. Thanks for your input!

  • @HipHopOpatamus47 I have to admit it did. It's too perfect.

  • I studied this ballad in English last term in school. I very much enjoyed doing it in the assessment i got a very high level but I will not brag.

  • A beautiful melody to go with such a haunting poem. I like this version the best because it actually includes the stanza where she dies, and otherwise the poem doesn't make much sense. But you still have to read the entire poem to get the full effect.

  • @MusicallyDelusional

I agree. To truly get all the poem has to offer- a person simply has to read it. Just hearing it sung (however beautifully done) is still only half the poem, and re-arranged on top of that for the effect of the song. To truly appreciate it in all its glory, it must be read. I would hate to think that someone would hear the complete song and think it the full version of the poem as well. It is not even close, in my opinion. Still a wonderful song for lovers of this poem.

  • @midievalfantasy Yep, exactly. Also, I'd like to point out that there is one line in the poem that is significantly different in the song. Lines 128-129 of Tennyson's poem says: "Like some bold seer in a trance / Seeing all his own mischance--" but in the song, line 129 says: "Seeing not his own mischance."

  • @MusicallyDelusional It is a love/hate relationship when poetry become songs because of the liberties taken or when things get cut/changed. Take Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven preformed by Omnia. The poem is brilliant & the song lovely, but they still cut things..they made up for it with Jabberwocky though. I also love Sopor Aeternus & her versions of Poe poetry put to song, espeically "The Sleeper" & "Conqueror Worm". Abney Park's "Stretched on your Grave" is great too. I love poetry put to music.

  • @midievalfantasy You know, listening to the song again, I think that was a typo in the lyrics, rather than the artist changing the lyrics. I think she really does sing "Seeing all his own mischance" in the song. You might want to fix that? :|

  • @MusicallyDelusional: You could be right- she just might be saying 'all' instead of 'not'. I could have sworn she said 'not though.:( Either way the only way to fix it that I know of would be to delete this video & re-post a new one- & that is only if I still have the rough draft so I wouldn't have to start from scratch again. Sadly I'm not an expert with movie making & it literally takes me hours to do the longer videos. I think this one took about 8 hrs total. Thanks for telling me about it!

  • Damn, why can't I vote a 10000 thumbs up!

  • Thank you all for the comments!

  • welldone!! amazing..

  • FINALLY someone who has the full song WITH the last stanza! Thank you so much for posting and I like the artwork you chose. I love this song and it's nice to see someone else who appreciates it.

  • beautiful ballad, I am very much enjoy studying it a school. :D

  • i love it! thanks for posting

  • Great! <3 Finally a good one :D

  • Excellent choice of artwork. I, myself, enjoy the Steampunk movement. I have loved this song for many years & it has become my joy and bane because I sometimes can't hit the notes when I sing. U have done a wonderful job & I will try to post this where I can so u may get the recognition u deserve for joining all these things 2gether.

  • @lawilson1980 Wow. I am honored. Thank you.
