That brilliant half-turn that Mark Hamill does before the flying leap off the plank at 0:02-0:04. It 's just for a few seconds, but so clear and with such edge to the timing that it gave me something else to look at besides his face. I don't know whether it's equal parts the camerawork or his physical elegance, but certainly both elements are at work here. I am, simply put, mesmerised -- and that's the start of it.

Thanks. I was merely being whimsical. Star Wars was all over the place when I was growing up in the '70s, and as a consequence, Mark Hamill meant so much to me then.

We are lucky to have the movies and clips like this to relive the magic of those times. Yes, it certainly WAS magical to see him up there onscreen as Luke. We've got some fine leading men today, certainly, but Hamill has this innocent quality about him that is from another time. And I really miss it.

Adorable, indeed.

Check him out as the Trickster in the Flash tv series, if you haven't done so already. That's where I think he perfected the Joker persona which endeared him to a new generation of fans: voice, line reading, charisma...and that wicked cackle. Just exciting to watch and listen to that guy.

It's a shame that I never saw him in any of his Broadway roles. Perhaps someday an old video recording might turn up....who knows?
