Got mine today, and it took me 20 minutes to install it on my USA Deluxe V-Neck Strat. by following this video. It works an absolute treat! And this is a life saver for me, it's like a blessing from above. I can use standard tuning and drop D with the artist I'm working with and not change guitars. It's a truly elegant solution to a very significant problem. Kevan, thank you VERY MUCH! Nigel. London UK.
Hey, does anyone know if the TremolNo creates counter tension just like a spring? On my guitar, I have a spring right where the shaft goes through. :/ Help
@dverhonich I've installed on a Musicman JP and it still flutters no problem. It's all in your installation. Good job with no resistance will flutter. Good luck.
Great video - the supplied instructions are good, but being able to watch this made it SO much easier. I now have a perfectly functioning Tremol-no on my Suhr!
hey how it going. I am getting ready to install my tremol-no and I noticed the pin that goes into the tail is slightly bent about 10 deg. Is it supposed to be straight?
I''ve been trying to install Tremol-No ( pin type ) in my Ibanez RG3120F Prestige but I apparently failed and will have to fix it. How did you remove springs without removing strings ( how did you block bridge from popping out and kept it in locked position ). Also I tried to install springs but they're popping out of the holes ( I guess bridge must be set under right angle to avoid it ). Could you give me hints how to fix it and get tremol-no working with my guitar, please?
@jgameruk the block didn't pop up when he removed the springs because he is placing pressure on the guitar body which is resting upside down on it's fine-tuners. I'm not sure if he kept pressing/leaning on it for the rest of the install or if the weight of the guitar pressing on the bridge was enough to keep it centered. I always use a small chunk of wood or a 9V battery (handy) between the block and back of the cavity, with a bit of duct tape to hold it there during repairs/installs.
Hi ! i have big problem with my tremol-no ! i have the pin type, my threads on the tailpiece isn't directly aligned , it was in the middle of the holes that suppose to hold the spring. any suggestion please!
Save yr 70$ and wait for a better way than this thing. Use a Quarter if u have a trem thats not recessed. What if you use 11 - 13s where does the tremolNot go, you would be using all 5 springs. Also would it work on Ibanezes edge pro I think they are called with a bar thats screwed over the springs on the bridge? The option to lock the trem without turning the guitar over mabe from the front, a pin that u push down to lock the trem in place.

hahaha wow, when it flips it over on the backside it looks exatly like my ESP, execpt, the neck plate says ESP istead of Jaskson and mine as the ESP Sticker on it haha nicee tho
I just installed it into my guitar. It was quite painful, and took at least half an hour, but now everything works. I never looked into a guitar before, but i was still able to install it :D
Double stops will be in tune, but you will never get it working like a hardtail, just like a very tight trem (which it is xD). But that's a minor issue which doesn't really count. You can tune to drop D. It works mostly as i expected. (Tuning won't be as stable as before you installed it, but what the hell)
This is a tremol-no, not a tremolo. if you already have a big block on your tremolo, don't worry about it: you don't actually replace the tremolo bridge, just the claw.
The Tremol-No allows a maximum of 4 springs to be used. If you have 5 springs, you should find a set of (4) "short" springs. Local music stores have tons of used trem springs. Find a nice set of "short" springs. 4 of them should hold anything this side of a .070 set.
You use the same claw screws that came with your guitar (or go get some nice stainless steel ones).
do you guy's make back cover plates with a hole to have access to the tremol-no? also, how much does the tremol no cost? i heard for new about 80 including the shipping price and used on ebay for like 60.
Yes, you have to have the ground wire connected to the back of your volume pot. Or, if you have copper shielding tape in the cavities, you can wire the ground from the bridge to that.
Hi Kevan, would you have any advice for me, as my pin type has made my Floyd really stiff, the flutter has completely gone and I've spent hours adjusting the claw screws? Thanks for your help.
so what's the main difference between clamp and pin style tremol-no's, because i want to get for my licensed floyd rose, but not sure which one to go for.
are there any main advantages for using one over the other or not??
You can just clip the ground wire from your old claw, strip about 1/2" from the end, then wrap it around the grounding screw on the face of the T-No claw.
i have a vintage kramer will and i really dont want to cut my ground wire or remove any parts from it because i dont want the value to drop on it so unless it's really really worth it i wont get one so is it really worth the hassel honestly
The ground wire can be de-soldered from the original claw, then just wrapped around the ground screw on the T-No.
That would be the only 'hassle" I can think of. The install only takes a few minutes and what it would let you do with your Kramer is pretty damn cool.
kool well i have my kramer in drop c and it sounds freaking sweet it wasnt too much of a hassle to get it like that so i guess i really have no need for the t-no now thanks for the reply btw
I'm getting one of the pin type for a Dinky. I plan on locking the floyd rose and never using it. Should my tremolo be floating level or sitting down against the body? Again, I plan on never using it.
If you still feel the T-No while using the trem in Full Floating mode, you need to tweak your alignment slightly. VERY slightly. Maybe 1/16th of a turn of a claw screw.
Unlock the set screws on top of the claw (less than 1/2 a turn), then tweak your alignment.
When you can't feel the T-No anymore, re-lock the screws on top of the claw.
today i got my trem no but the distance of the holes for the screws is bigger than the distance of the holes from the orginal one so i cant put in the screws! shall i make new holes into my guitar?!
The claw screw spacing on the T-No is standard sized. Some guitar makers use non-standard or proprietary claws (like G&L). In cases like that, new claw screw holes will have to be drilled.
In most instances, the claw screws can just be angled in (or out) slightly. There's about 5mm of tolerance there.
To the author: I haven't noticed much difference between this video and the video called "Tremol-No Clamp-type Installation". What's the difference between Pin and Clamp-type???
The difference between the two is how they attach to the trem block.
The Pin uses the front face and the #4 spring hole in the trem block; The Clamp-type works like a miniature vise clamp to attach to the front and rear faces of the trem block.
Other than that, the units are essentially the same.
Dude, awesome explanation!I got to install my Tremol-No in 30 mins, just following your steps very carefully. Only thing I'm worried about is whether that little "deep-C" screw can handle all that pressure from the bridge on "Dive only" mode. Thanks!
if u put the guitar in fixed mode does that fix the tuning issues u have with a regular floyd? if so can u put it into floating mode and keep the same tuning?
Does it matter pin type or clamp type for a jackson dinky (mine is that one) and if i had 3 springs and I have them one way and when i instal the tremo no and there isnt room for the way I used to have my springs will it effect the bridge height or tuning. thanks
This look way too complicated to do by your own. If you want to retune the guitar in drop D etc its maybe better to have a "special" tuned down guitar instead.
I have an Edge as well. You either have to remove the spring-retaining bar (you may have to tweak the springs to keep them from popping out), or, one of the two models coming out soon (as of 2/26/08) will fit it.
I believe that the clamp-type was the first model, or they (the clamp- and the pin-types) came out simultaneously, but the pin-type is the current model, and I don't think they sell the clamp-type right now. But new models are coming out soon, and one should fit.
If you mean for the Ibanez Edge, then return it and wait for one of the new models. But yes, remove the spring-retaining bar and it should work. You may also have to tweak the springs to keep them from popping out. All of this is in the forums.
The spring retainer bar (or block lock mechanism) really only comes to the fore when the bridge isn't set up right ie when you're re-stringing, cleaning or something like that. The springs can pop out when setting up.
When you put the Tremol-No claw plate on, just leave the tailpiece/receiver off. Then put the springs back on (like the video at 10 minutes) and then put the spring retainer plate BACK ON (I half put it on at an angle to save the springs popping out as I put them on one by one because they can pop out on these bridges). Then set up your bridge like normal ie spring to string tension being equal, the level of the bridge to the body and also that your guitar is in tune.
Once you are happy with that just remove the spring retainer plate (so you can fit the tailpiece into the hole) and put the receiver onto the Tremol-No shaft and attach the tailpiece to the bridge. The springs won't come out in normal use as the tension is too great when the guitar is set up right.
You do not have to put the retainer on at any point (it's only a precaution), but I found it easier to do that as these springs have a tendency to pop until the string tension is close to equal. His bridge stayed in place when he took the springs off which helps and also when he put them back, but this doesn't always happen.
i think the one that holds the trem base is to weak to small to handle every force or you might set up it to dive mode and you forgot to retunr it to the normal setting and then suddenl you pull the trem backwards and then there you go break the tiny little allen screw... i think you need to inovate or re design that.. i dont know any techy stuff but im very obervant to evry stuff like that.. but realt its a very good invention of yours..
I don't know about you, but all the guitarists I know are completely anal retentive about their guitars. Simply put that will only happen if somebody forgot to change the setting.
The pin is very strong. We use a new process called "Metal Injection Molding". It's much stronger than regular casting. I have a Pin-type on my 7-string that holds the .056 Low B without any problem.
I designed a couple of safety features into the Tremol-No. The thumbscrews *will slip* if you try to use the trem bar while the T-No is in Hardtail mode. This is to prevent claw screws from being ripped out.
The pin *can* break if forced hard enough, but it's also easy/cheap to replace.
No. Don't force the pin. It's strong, but it can snap if you push too hard or install it improperly.
For trems with straight/vertical spring holes, you'll want to use the Clamp-type version of the Tremol-No (Large or Small, depending on the trem block width).
It's an earth wire, its so if theres a power spike or overload or malfunction, instead of the player getting zapped by the guitar, the electricity goes safely through the earth terminal.
I thought the earthing was to stop the mains hum? If there's a high voltage you get zapped dude there's no fuse! maybe I am completely wrong - experts reply!
hmm maybe I'm completely wrong lol I didn't even consider the fuse. Thats just what I've always thought the use of an earth wire in any electrical device was, to give a safer root for electricity to the ground rather than through the person using it. Anybody here know what they're talking about?
It's just that I managed to get zapped onced when I earth'd myself during a guitar solo and grabbed a metal mic stand which gave me a massive electric shock - threw me accross he stage! The guitar earthing is connected to the cable coax shielding and stops hum.

- If you're a light trem user, or are going to be in full-time Hardtail mode, go with the Pin-type.
- If you're a heavy trem user/abuser, go with the Clamp-type (Small).
That's NOT the law. It's just what I've heard from players over the last few years.

If you go into Full Floating and you break a string or tune, will the tremolo go ape shit?
ProtestTheRomeo 2 years ago
Well, "apeshit" is sort of a harsh, yet still very technical, term.
To answer your question: Yes. Your trem will freak out as it always had.
In a twisted way, that's sort of a testament to how invisible the T-No is when you're in Full Floating mode.

The ground wire can be de-soldered from the original claw, then just wrapped around the ground screw on the T-No.

Im planning on getting this, how would i go about re stringing it? would it be better going into hardtail mode then just re string it? Thanks
braidin123 3 years ago
restring it in floating mode, then put it into hardtail mode after changing strings and tuning it and all that
folken161 3 years ago
You can go into Hardtail mode and re-string all at once.
With a floating trem, I recommend doing one string at a time.
If you need to remove them all (fretboard maintenance, new pickups, etc.), then use the set screws in the T-No. That will keep your trem in place.
Be careful: If you take all the string tension of the neck, it could freak out on ya.

I'm getting one of the pin type for a Dinky. I plan on locking the floyd rose and never using it. Should my tremolo be floating level or sitting down against the body? Again, I plan on never using it.
ShadowRider540 3 years ago
Install the Claw/Shaft part of the T-No, then do your normal setup and get the trem exactly where you want it.
Then install the Receiver/Tailpiece section.
Align. Check.
Tighten the thumbscrews (or set screws).
TremolNo 2 years ago
Thanks for the video, it's very usefull...!
What shall I do if I still feel the tremol-no, when I'm fooling around with the whammy bar?
Shall I loosen up the screws in the pin?
Thanks again...!
GeoNikBand 3 years ago
If you still feel the T-No while using the trem in Full Floating mode, you need to tweak your alignment slightly. VERY slightly. Maybe 1/16th of a turn of a claw screw.
Unlock the set screws on top of the claw (less than 1/2 a turn), then tweak your alignment.
When you can't feel the T-No anymore, re-lock the screws on top of the claw.
That should do it.

ive got a m400 ltd lizensed fl... on your hp its written that the pin type will work, but it doesnt
TheGodheadMetallica 3 years ago
An ESP M400 runs an ESP/Floyd Rose trem.
There's no reason a Pin-type wouldn't work on there.
TremolNo 2 years ago
it definitely didnt work.
i had to make the holes bigger... now it works well.
TheGodheadMetallica 2 years ago
Hi!
today i got my trem no but the distance of the holes for the screws is bigger than the distance of the holes from the orginal one so i cant put in the screws! shall i make new holes into my guitar?!
TheGodheadMetallica 3 years ago
The claw screw spacing on the T-No is standard sized. Some guitar makers use non-standard or proprietary claws (like G&L). In cases like that, new claw screw holes will have to be drilled.
In most instances, the claw screws can just be angled in (or out) slightly. There's about 5mm of tolerance there.

To the author: I haven't noticed much difference between this video and the video called "Tremol-No Clamp-type Installation". What's the difference between Pin and Clamp-type???
king666nothing 3 years ago
The difference between the two is how they attach to the trem block.
The Pin uses the front face and the #4 spring hole in the trem block; The Clamp-type works like a miniature vise clamp to attach to the front and rear faces of the trem block.
Other than that, the units are essentially the same.
Both offer the same features.
TremolNo 3 years ago
would you use a clamp or pin for a mockingbird st?
wierdxthing 3 years ago
IIRC, the Mockingbird ST comes with a Floyd trem. You get to pick which one best fits your playing style:
If you're a light trem user, go with the Pin-type.
If you're a heavy trem user, go with the Clamp-type (Small).
Both have the same features; they just attach to the trem block differently.

I'm pretty sure its a wire to ground the guitar.
maneatingtoilets 3 years ago
actually i am sure, i posted my last comment before he said what it was
maneatingtoilets 3 years ago
Dude, awesome explanation!I got to install my Tremol-No in 30 mins, just following your steps very carefully. Only thing I'm worried about is whether that little "deep-C" screw can handle all that pressure from the bridge on "Dive only" mode. Thanks!
marcefx 3 years ago
Thanks!
The thumbscrews can handle a good amount of pressure, but are designed to slip if too much is applied (safety feature).
If you're worried about slippage, use the set screw(s) that were included with your T-No.
TremolNo 3 years ago
if u put the guitar in fixed mode does that fix the tuning issues u have with a regular floyd? if so can u put it into floating mode and keep the same tuning?
washbender95 3 years ago
No. "Fixed mode", as you put it, does not "fix" any issues you have with your FR trem.
See the Clean & Lube video to fix trem return problems and get it working 100%.
You'll need to tune back to your Full Floating tuning BEFORE you go back into Full Floating mode.
TremolNo 3 years ago
im meant can u tune it up in fixed, turn it to full floating, and still have it in tune?
washbender95 3 years ago
is it possible to tune from standard to drop c with the tremol-no? and can i do squealings and dive bombs normally?
KillAllEmos666 3 years ago
I think you can.
MindKillSwe 3 years ago
MindKillSwee is correct.
You can still do your Zakk squealies (pinch harmonics) and big ol' dive bombs.
For dropping to C, you may want to consider a thicker set of strings.
No one likes the sound of floppies. :-)

Does it matter pin type or clamp type for a jackson dinky (mine is that one) and if i had 3 springs and I have them one way and when i instal the tremo no and there isnt room for the way I used to have my springs will it effect the bridge height or tuning. thanks
guitarplayeraustin 3 years ago
Either one will work on your Jackson Dinky (FR trem).
Use the Pin-type if you're a light trem user. Go with the Clamp-type if you're a heavy trem user.
You'll need to change from an "arrow" config. to a "Straight" config. Minor adjustments at the claw will need to be made (quick and easy to do).
NO- it will not affect your bridge height.
NO- it will not affect your tuning.
TremolNo 3 years ago
ok thank you/
guitarplayeraustin 3 years ago
This look way too complicated to do by your own. If you want to retune the guitar in drop D etc its maybe better to have a "special" tuned down guitar instead.
kitsune2222 3 years ago
It's actually very easy to install, and the benefits it provides make the time spent well worth it.
The video is kinda long because I explain things in great detail.
TremolNo 3 years ago
how do you install the tremel-no on an ibanez edge bridge?
tehsimo 3 years ago
I have an Edge as well. You either have to remove the spring-retaining bar (you may have to tweak the springs to keep them from popping out), or, one of the two models coming out soon (as of 2/26/08) will fit it.
Avenite8 3 years ago
i thought the current model fitted it.. the one where u use the clamp instead of the pin.
tehsimo 3 years ago
I believe that the clamp-type was the first model, or they (the clamp- and the pin-types) came out simultaneously, but the pin-type is the current model, and I don't think they sell the clamp-type right now. But new models are coming out soon, and one should fit.
Avenite8 3 years ago
they don't sell the clamp, so the pin type that i just ordered will work if i unscrew the bar? i assumed the spring holes were too big
Walls1441 3 years ago
If you mean for the Ibanez Edge, then return it and wait for one of the new models. But yes, remove the spring-retaining bar and it should work. You may also have to tweak the springs to keep them from popping out. All of this is in the forums.
Avenite8 3 years ago

TremolNo 3 years ago
Part 1
The spring retainer bar (or block lock mechanism) really only comes to the fore when the bridge isn't set up right ie when you're re-stringing, cleaning or something like that. The springs can pop out when setting up.
terrydactylspondae 3 years ago
Part 2
When you put the Tremol-No claw plate on, just leave the tailpiece/receiver off. Then put the springs back on (like the video at 10 minutes) and then put the spring retainer plate BACK ON (I half put it on at an angle to save the springs popping out as I put them on one by one because they can pop out on these bridges). Then set up your bridge like normal ie spring to string tension being equal, the level of the bridge to the body and also that your guitar is in tune.
terrydactylspondae 3 years ago
Part 3
Once you are happy with that just remove the spring retainer plate (so you can fit the tailpiece into the hole) and put the receiver onto the Tremol-No shaft and attach the tailpiece to the bridge. The springs won't come out in normal use as the tension is too great when the guitar is set up right.
terrydactylspondae 3 years ago
You do not have to put the retainer on at any point (it's only a precaution), but I found it easier to do that as these springs have a tendency to pop until the string tension is close to equal. His bridge stayed in place when he took the springs off which helps and also when he put them back, but this doesn't always happen.
terrydactylspondae 3 years ago
i think the one that holds the trem base is to weak to small to handle every force or you might set up it to dive mode and you forgot to retunr it to the normal setting and then suddenl you pull the trem backwards and then there you go break the tiny little allen screw... i think you need to inovate or re design that.. i dont know any techy stuff but im very obervant to evry stuff like that.. but realt its a very good invention of yours..
oninzthirty7 4 years ago
I don't know about you, but all the guitarists I know are completely anal retentive about their guitars. Simply put that will only happen if somebody forgot to change the setting.
sesstreets 4 years ago
The pin is very strong. We use a new process called "Metal Injection Molding". It's much stronger than regular casting. I have a Pin-type on my 7-string that holds the .056 Low B without any problem.
I designed a couple of safety features into the Tremol-No. The thumbscrews *will slip* if you try to use the trem bar while the T-No is in Hardtail mode. This is to prevent claw screws from being ripped out.
The pin *can* break if forced hard enough, but it's also easy/cheap to replace.
TremolNo 3 years ago
if my spring hole isn't angled do i make the pin straight to fit? i wanna make sure cause i dont wanna break it.
jvthatsme 4 years ago
Nope, I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that the pin is angled so that it grips the tailpeice better.
whirlpool 4 years ago
No. Don't force the pin. It's strong, but it can snap if you push too hard or install it improperly.
For trems with straight/vertical spring holes, you'll want to use the Clamp-type version of the Tremol-No (Large or Small, depending on the trem block width).
TremolNo 3 years ago
why do u need a wire connecting the tremalo to the main system.?
UniTeDdiSgraCe 4 years ago
It's an earth wire, its so if theres a power spike or overload or malfunction, instead of the player getting zapped by the guitar, the electricity goes safely through the earth terminal.
renorono 4 years ago
I thought the earthing was to stop the mains hum? If there's a high voltage you get zapped dude there's no fuse! maybe I am completely wrong - experts reply!
sharkster1969 4 years ago
hmm maybe I'm completely wrong lol I didn't even consider the fuse. Thats just what I've always thought the use of an earth wire in any electrical device was, to give a safer root for electricity to the ground rather than through the person using it. Anybody here know what they're talking about?
renorono 4 years ago
It's just that I managed to get zapped onced when I earth'd myself during a guitar solo and grabbed a metal mic stand which gave me a massive electric shock - threw me accross he stage! The guitar earthing is connected to the cable coax shielding and stops hum.
I'm no expert tho!
sharkster1969 4 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
can you install these things in guitars that dont have tremolo systems already?
like say, Epiphone?
CheetoWhistler 4 years ago
Why would you want to?
hydralisk125 4 years ago
why? theres no point.
jvthatsme 4 years ago
CUZ that would be cool to have
plus it would be cheaper i guess
CheetoWhistler 4 years ago
No.
You need to have a fulcrum-type tremolo system on the guitar to use the Tremol-No.
TremolNo 3 years ago
Very handy looking device. One question though. Will it fit on an Ibanez ZR bridge? There are no hooks, and only two holes for the springs
Greensmurf 4 years ago
Sorry, man. While the ZR trem is pretty cool, the Tremol-No is not designed to work with that system.
TremolNo 3 years ago
That's ok (I don't use that guitar much anymore anyway).
I think I'll get one for my Edge Pro. Thanks for you r answer
