You're not even playing the damned thing. Turn the CD down so we can hear the obvious pull-off mistakes you're making playing that intro riff incorrectly. Go watch Kris, he doesn't use opens, at all. It's two-handed tapping using TWO fingers on the left hand, on 3, 5, and 7 (in accordance with the main chordal structure of the song).

Just to clear this up since so many people have asked, its a cheapo Squirer Tele Custom with a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge and a stock pickup in the neck...keep an eye out on my vids as im gonna break out some of my other guitars soon!
