Would you mind if this video was linked in the Highway 401 Wikipedia article? It is very well done and shows a good view of the collector-express system, as well as mentioning a few facts.

You're right on the total per day. I had written that into the show notes/episode description on YouTube a while back, but my suspicion is that people aren't reading the whole description. :-)
when i came to canada, and saw the 401 first time, i was like WHOA, 18 Lanes?????? but then.......100km/h,,,,,retarded. even the slowest countries like the UK have it a 70mph = 112.
@rudedudeP There is actually a good reason for this. Drivers in Ontario tend to speed. Drivers in Ontario expect to be able to drive up to 20 km/h above the speed limit without being pulled over. It is basically an unwritten rule.
If they increased the speed limit to 112 km/h, everyone would drive 132 km/h. It is just a strange convention that has developed.
Contrast this with a province like Alberta, where the speed limits are 110 km/h, and everyone drives 90 km/h!
@Railrodder I have to agree with this comment. No one outside of Toronto is going to know what "GTA" means. Torontonians have a bit of a reputation for being oblivious to the world outside of their own city, as if they cannot conceive that someone could NOT live in Toronto. However, this is probably because it is a nice city to live in.
@lemonrind Thanks! I guess it's because the cities surrounding Toronto were all amalgamated into one large city and now they call the area the Greater Toronto Area.Mabe they should rename the new city, or just call it Toronto. Less confusion for people who do not know the city's short forms.
@pinmedownbaby You cannot tell how fast the vehicle is travelling from the video. Videos from dash mounted cameras always make a vehicle appear to be moving much more slowly than it is. It is an optical illusion.

this is a very good quality video on a nice sunny day. Just to be clear though, the volume of cars is 500,000 per day not per hour!

Thanks a lot! I appreciate it.

Where and what is GTA? I'm three hours from Toronto. This is kind of a neat video! Thanks for sharing your area of the 401!

Hi. The GTA is the Greater Toronto Area. Glad you like the videos!

you might want to correct your statement that 500,000 vehicles per hour use the 401. It is 500,000 per DAY.
oshawaphysics 2 years ago 5
@oshawaphysics Actually it is per hour not per day...

why are you driving so fuckin' slow on the 401? no wonder we have a hard time going to work in the mornings...and in the passing lane no less!!!

the whole video is just slowed down ... probably to synch to music?

its in slow motion you little dirty mexican bastard my little brother even noticed that.

The video is not in slow motion. The dash mounted camera only makes it appear so. It is an optical illusion.
