But somehow modern emo came from punk and alt?There was a genre called emotional hardcore hence the term emo.Emo core was a great genre but then it lost the original sound completely and bands like fall out bitch and my chemical bitch claim to be emo core.Dag nasty was a great band also being melodic emotional hardcore punk. Well Misfits rule anyways lol.

It has good songs like It's Catching Up, Oh No Bruno, and Big Dick(lol).Rites of Spring and Jawbreaker are great bands. Have you heard of Fugazi? Not really obscure but they are awesome.
