permanent, personal and pervasive v. temporary, specific and... i think... external? I read your book in 1993 and again in 2010. I recall you addressed the concern below on "blaming others." MS is not advocating blaming others. Rather, he appears to speak of a tendency exhibited by more optimistic people in their explanatory style. I have some of my own questions. Do you take email from readers of your books? I'd love to ask a couple questions!
Why bathe in the mud of irritation and pessimism? If you think it makes you feel better, you're only deceiving yourself. Try taking a dip in the cool refreshing waters of joyfulness and you will experience a peace that bathes your soul.~Ervin C. Jackson, PhD.
I have some ethical concerns about this optimism. It seems to me kind of immoral to blame on the circumstamces or other people for what goes wrong and to take the credits for what goes right. So I have problems to use this cognitive therapy, because I don't want to be unfair, I want the truth, not what is good for me, because to become happier its necessary to seek virtue, and virtue is attained finding what the truth is . Sorry about the bad english (oh, i'm being pessimistic")
From what i understand his experiments where conducted at a time when computers were less advanced. I not saying that excuses experimenting on dogs. Lately it seems that the dogs may have come back to bite Martin in the ass. He fascinates me, annoys me and scares me.
This guy, Martin Seligman, supports and takes part of animal torture using dogs in experimental labs. Why support him in any way? Let him know you do not approve. It is a fact that invitro and computer testing works better.
