Hello all, I am a double amputee, AK and AE both left side. Quick question if anyone knows, I have a complete brachial injury, this is the arm amputated AE (Had it amputated because I had such horrible pain in lower arm and hand and didn't know it wouldn't help the pain.) and am wonder if there's any arm/hand that I could use and put the arm in to motion and operate the hand? I do very well with my AK, I have a C-Leg had many legs over the years and always did great but this C-leg rocks
with the Utah arm you see here you can move the arm/elbow up and down by muscle control then have it lock in any position and then move the hand but you can't do both at the same time...there is also an AE elbow/hand combo done by Otto Bock that is very good.
It depends on the type of myo you have but it is fairly heavy at first but he got used to it...He is not phil so probably not the guy you're thinking about.
You've got that right the technology has come a very long way. I've been making prosthetics for 14 years now and I can't believe some of the stuff we can do now. You should see the new Myo hands out now by touch bionics called the I-Limb hand...individually move each finger.
it's muscle controled i have the utah 3 arm they hook up whats left of your arm to a computer that sends the nerve ways to the computer.and then they know where to put the sensors to open and close the hand or hook i have both i can twist the hand off and switch to the hook.
It all depends on you. If you can adjust to the weight of it and get a good fit then you can definetly make it work for you. The best thing would be to talk to a prosthetist that is trained in fitting the U3 arm and see if he can make one work for you. The big factor is coverage as they are not cheap. Good Luck.
Yes he needs to learn how to use the signals, which are EMG signals. There are what's called electrodes in the socket that he engages whith muscle control. The medical terminology for these are myo electrics.
thats really cool and prob makes ur life much easier! hopefully through advancing technology you will be able to have a more "normal" arm. if you don't mind me asking, why do you have only one arm?
wow thats amazing. i've seen this sort of thing on TV before where the injured soldiers who had their arms and legs amputated got these robotic arms/legs.
one soldiers story really struck me because both his arms were amputated and when he got these artificial ones he said "now i can finally hold my baby" and burst into tears...
Through EMG signals...otherwise know as a myo-electric prosthtesis. Basically it's muscle control, he flexes the muscles on the shoulder or the muscles in the upper chest to activate electrodes in the socket that touch the skin, these signals travel through the electrode wires to the elbow/hand or wrist rotator.
That strap across the left pec looks uncomfortable.

yah I would've thought so as well...but he didn't mind it at all. the pad on it helps.

Does he had to learn how to use the single functions? and how is that medical direction called wich explores such stuff???

that would be hard to get used to using
bbaconb3 3 years ago
It's actually not as hard as you would think. This video was from the first day he put on the finished arm.

Oh. He's pretty good, then
