the front man of q.o.t.s.a. that is the front man of the crooked vultures is sounding more like jimi hendrix than any other musician at this current time with the scumbag blues can match the album jimi hendrix and the band of gypses.
This is more what music should be like...these guys are just stoked to play with Jean Paul Jones and hes just as much stoked....its music its free lets play it and forget about all this bullshit!!!!
It seems the keyboard player on stage right's greatest influence is... The bass player on stage left! Imagine what it must be like to play a "Trampled Underfoot" keyboard line knowing the guy who played the original is on the same stage. Interstingly enough, the song also has a strong Cream vibe.
Live concert performance of my favorite song by them. Dave Grohl on drums, not sure who the singer is but love his sound, like classic rock & blues but modern era, LOVE them. :)
Amazing! I bought this cd! Love Led, love QOTSA, Love Mr. Grohl on the Drumms. This Vulture with three heads smells like teen spirit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahahahha Powerfull!!!! waiting for u in Brazil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alain Johannes is a virtuoso. Eleven, his contributions to Desert Sessions, Queens, and Them Crooked Vultures, and now his solo album, "Spark".....I'm just saying, DUUUDE HAS SOUL
Does anyone happen to know what kind of pedal is Josh using here? I've always loved those kind of fuzzy but abrasive octavey tones. Reminds me of Hendrix and Corgans solo on Untitled.
So disappointed at 1:15 when the funky bit starts on the keyboard :( I was so sure John was gonna hit a setting on a stomp box and play the funk out on his bass lol
Seriously I was thinking the same thing about 20 seconds ago... and I mean Josh is a top 20 rock guitarist of all time, but the guy is honestly one of the best poet/lyricists since Jim Morrison.. noone ever talks about his writing skills.. to me its a toss up b/t him and Julian Casablancas as the best lyricist of the last decade... guess it kinda depends on personal taste.. I love both of em
@FuschiaInferior and let us not forget about Alain Johannes, an amazing musician! His late wife Natasha Shneider and drummer Jack Irons, made up the band Eleven, formed in 1990. Worth checking out for sure! You may also recognize Natasha as the pretty dark-haired woman formerly playing keyboards for QOTSA.
@FuschiaInferior I thought that too initially. Then I started playing bass and, after listening to this, and Warsaw live, and others, it clicked. In my opinion, in Them Crooked Vultures, Josh is a guitarist, Dave is a drummer, but JPJ is a musician.
@FuschiaInferior Yeah but may i remind you JPJ was in LED FUCKING ZEPPELIN!?! Are you aware of the holiness he brought to this band?! ALL HAIL THE GODS OF ROCK, LED ZEPPELIN!!!!!!
It's been 2 years since the album came out, I've seen them live (in Vegas, where they seemed especially thrilled to be playing), and I STILL can't get over how awesome it is that Jones, Homme, and Grohl teamed up.
@jjthemadgenius Jonesy's played with the best improvisational rock band in history , arguably . Good as Grohl is I think he knows he'd get lost in a ten minute improv jam with a classically trained bass player like Jones.. He and Jones have a good rapport going , but not quite the near - telapathic understanding of each of others playing that existed in Led Zeppelin
totally agree. in fact, his unique tone and unpredictable, super-expressive solos like the one in this song and a song for the dead remind me of hendrix. im not gonna say he's reached hendrix's level, but i think josh is a guitar god in his own right.
