HERSHEY's? Well ya know, it's not the only company who's doing that.... there's a lot of greedy companies around the world I swear... And this company is one of them ya know...
Funny how people are worried about hershey workers. But not all in the children in africa who pick most of the worlds coco beans. They are treated cruelly.
You Know Whats so fucking great , is these kids are from other country where they do shit about what they dont like in government ... If these were americans they wouldnt say a danm word
The Washington Post reports that Justice at Hershey's has sent the State Department scrambling to reform the J-1 visa program. Please spread the work that they need to start by shutting down Hershey's labor recruiter CETUSA!
America is involve in the drug trade, sex trade, ETC, They been doing this more then 40years & WE THE SHEEP'S haven't done shit other then watch 10hours of ZIONIST CONTROLLED BRAINWASHING TELEVISION.
why are some of you fools defending hershey's corporation. Hershey's seem like they are giving opportunities but are just increasing profit margins as much as they can. DISGUSTING.
btw they didnt get paid 5 dollars an hour, it was 8.35/hour, they lost money for rent which is understandable, and when they guy showed us his check, he forgot to mention that tax played an important role in reducing his salary
As a Hershey Worker, I must say that this is absurd. I was there when the protest happen and I was concerned at first, but now after watching this video, Not at all. The way I see it is that they came here to the US by CHOICE for this program, and OF COURSE you have to pay to come to the United States, We all did (I was a foreigner as well). They are then given a job to do to pay for housing to stay in the US as well right? I think im missing a point here, someone please explain what went wrong?
@MrXiaoschi Wtf are you talking about real life working environments?
These kids didn't study their asses of to be come surgeons and engineers so they could work at a Hershey's factory doing heavy labor for 5 $ an hour ( I wonder how you would feel if you were a hard working student wasting your life in a chocolate factory). We cant control what's happening in China we don't have a say in that, but at least in our own countries we can make a difference.
@MrXiaoschi ur so fucking retarded. they CANT quit because they need to pay off their trip coming to the US which is like 3000-4000 dollars! And like they said, they cant go back to their country either because their family is living in poverty. Thats why they came here, to get a good education and pay off their fee for coming here. And yes Chinese labor is way harder than the jobs here, but were in America! thats not how American business are suppose to treat their workers like they do in china
You guys are fucking gay if they have it so bad then go back to your country. But they wont do that because they are living better here and they know it fuck them they can go home whenever they please. And that bitch is talking about being a surgeon bitch go back to ur country and be a prostitute
OK.. If you don't like the job, why don't u just quit it??? Stop posting this shit up, many Americans were out of jobs today. Also you should feel lucky that you are having internet access to post this shit up here. People in China are making much less with much harder work, what did they have to say?? u are students, the point of this kind of work is to let you experience real life working environment. if you can't take it, you might as well go home.
People WAKE UP!! It's like this all around the world. Shame on Hersheys??? The chocolate comes from Africa anyways. Yet your typing on a macbook made by women in china who works 100hrs a week? You buy $150 Nikes made by 10 yr old chinese kids? You buy replacement parts for your damn nissans and toyotas made in Japan for cheap. Put your money where your mouth is. We are so cheap!! Buy made in the USA whenever possible - Red Wings Shoes, Allen Edmonds, Longhorn Jeans, AC Delco, Federal Mogul.
people criticize hershey's as if they had the right to. i can bet my life that every person here has bought cheap products while fully aware of the child labor and human exploitation behind it. then they go ahead and criticize hershey's for overseeing something like this, when they themselves are the one causing it and supporting it. it's not hershey's that's making this happen, it's us. we're the ones desperate for cheap prices, and human exploitation keeps them the cheapest
@TopperRollinCoal yeah just because it happens in other parts of the world means it's okay right? just as long as you buy american, this sort of thing is fine and we should continue doing it, right? dumbsh*t
@JPasdfjkl Did you not read? No it's not okay. I'll buy german, french, canadian, austrian, italian - I own firearms from those countries. They have labor laws, wages, and unions. When you buy things manufactured in the USA and those countries you encourage jobs to stay. If we can keep stuff from going to China, Pakistan, - it's a humanitarian win as well as economic. @TopperRollinCoal I'm typing on a PC. Speak for yourself. My Nike shoes only cost 120. I drive a Chevy. Theses student workers are underpaid, but the work they do is not hard at all. They are being a bunch of little girls. I go to school and have done construction in the Texas heat and do not complain. My mom even does harder manual labor working for Kohler and she does not cry about it. These kids are being underpaid, but the need to stop acting as if the job is hard.
@redmav08 it wasn't about the work being hard, the only reason they gave testimonials on the difficulties of the job was to show these were undesirable jobs hershey's was getting them to do. all work is hard, thats why its called work. i bet you got paid more than 5 bucks an hour to do construction tough guy.
your comparison of captive workers to your mom stocking shelves for fair wages is evidence of complete ignorance and immaturity. real class act.
@DerfRellim11 lmao My mom stocking shelves? Cute. She does man's work. Actual physical labor. I never said those students weren't being underpaid, they are, but they need to stop acting as if they are doing a hard job. And they should have known what they were getting themselves into. Only an ignorant fool would agree to something they weren't 100% sure what it was gonna be. No wonder this petition has so few signatures.
@redmav08 True True - I said whenever possible "buy american" - I can't drop 10k for a Cray computer. But every pair of shoes I put on my feet is made here in the states. I as well go to school full time, and work at a dragstrip. On break I pull 70-90hrs every week - i've seen temps up to 147. My work is far more stressful than these "immigrants" . As i'm sure your is as well.
Oh my god I was going to sign the petition but it was closed. This is just disgusting. I am not eating hershey's ever again and what other companies hershey owns and stop buying their stuff as well. This is ridiculous.
this is interesting, because if you look farther into the cocoa industry. many of the harvesters are slaves. they deny these things, but its made up of kids kidnapped or sold to farms. look it up. they arent even given an education.
This is disgusting, Though i am not surprised these people earned their way here only to be mistreated. I vow to never again purchase hershey's products. To have such ignorance at our times is not acceptable.
The J-1 visa that these kids signed up for is meant to promote cultural exchange and to give them business or medical training. None of which they are getting by packing chocolate. And what part of "they were threatened with deportation" do you not understand? They can't just leave or get another job because they signed up for a special visa. This is exploitation because they can't leave and being forced to do work that they shouldn't under J-1. The 'these people are lazy' crowd can GTFO.
@hoppyman50 Experience life in the U.S. by working side-by-side with locals. It’s a real American experience that also helps cover travel expenses! Without a doubt, this is one of the greatest ways to discover the United States. As you will learn, there are so many places to see and to visit in this huge country! What makes this experience so special is that when you go home, you'll have a lot more than great memories and some cool photos.
I wrote a debate essay on you guys just to let you know, this is unfair. Not only is this a cheap way of making more money for themselves, but also look at America and its unemployment rate. Hersheys is not the only company that is doing this... and many Americans who would take these jobs (with you know, changes) are being thrown out the door just because it is cheaper for the companies to trick foreign kids into coming to work for them. Its horrible. But my essay if for you guys.
All immigrants used to work this hard.Of course foreign students are being used. There millions of unemployed Americans,if those jobs were decent there would be plenty of American workers willing to take those jobs. Those student expected to do nothing and get payed a lot of money. That's it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This video exploits foreign students and turns them into lazy, whiny union-drones. My grandparents were GLAD to have a job doing anything in America. Would like to hear all the hidden facts on this story.
Now FOREIGNERS are ENTITLED to the AMERICAN dream? What they are experiencing is sacrifice...not inhumane conditions. But why would I expect them to understand...after all it wasn't their forefathers who sacrificed their LIVES for the freedom and opportunity they seek. Rise up all you who think your strong, and take root in the land you were born. Only a coward seeks the gold of his neighbor, but the courageous rejoice in the gold they have earned.
@Jimboberlow You, sir, are an idiot. That's not what these people are looking for. They are hardworking students that already have goals in other areas and working hard to get them. Put yourself in their position. You're a student working to become, say, a surgeon. You get offered temporary job for a large company in a foreign country. Only upon arriving do you find that you are being robbed of the money you've earned, will be in debt, and if you try to leave you will be in even greater debt.
Isn't what Hershey doing illegal? Why haven't they been charged for it? Why hasn't the government stepped in and set these students free? Are Hershey lobbyists bribing government officials? Man, it's like everyday I hear more and more about how sad this country is.
"They were promised an educational internship"..Arent they still getting this??, Isnt all the whining over the brutal box moving manual labor part along with the low pay?.They want to come here get the education.. work an easy tit job for great pay and have fun with all the extra spare time...Sorry They wasted their parents money now because they dont like what they signed up for..The lesson will always be the same tho... If it sounds too good to be true..IT IS! now get back to work
@TeMpTeK1 As what Mooperty said "You're misinformed or completely missing the moral issue. Sure, its an American job, but they were lead to believe that they would be working a rewarding, learning intensive internship. They were given a job on a production line. They can leave, sure, but only back to their respective countries because Hershey's is threatening deportation, and they already spent a lot of money getting to the US. It's a horrid bait and switch situation, not just a job."
Ok so when they dont show up for work. What Happens? Deportation? Sounds like they can leave to me.. But no.. they want to come to america.. Get a nice easy job a free education and a permanent visa..Please...spare me the horse shit
U know the world is really F'd up when migrant workers from countries with ZERO opportunity come here and complain about the Harsh treatment of Moving a box on a factory assembly line... Go look at History and see how migrant workers came here and busted their asses and worked up the ladder the hard way..... Ive never seen such a bunch of ungrateful Panzies with a sorry ass excuse for a sob story... If u dont like the work.... LEAVE THE COUNTRY..Greece will Take u.....
Watch the story once or a thousand times till you hear that packaging jobs were subcontracted. More than likely the product was produced and moved by bulk OFFSITE to a packaging company run by the SUBCONTRACTOR. The subcontrator and CETUSA (the non-profit that scammed these kids-Google it) should be put under the prison and Hershey should make some hard decisions now. I can't even imagine some in the offices at Hershey didn't know about this potential public-relation nightmare.
Reading everyone's comments is hard on this one. I agree, this is a factory line job, and they can go home... but remember, these people that came didn't come for what they thought was a factory job. It's a bait and switch and a sham that Hershey has done to people from another country. As for everyone that is unemployed and says "I'd do that job" the sad part about it is you will remain so, because Hershey would rather mistreated foreigners than hire you. Recognize the truth behind the actions.
You fucking lazy wining little shits. Go home to your home country. Did you expect not to work for your wages????? Good Lord I've never seen such losers cry about how "my back hurt" "they're only concern was production", then learn a trade and become self employed and stop crying. Pussies the bunch of them.
Chocolate workers local 464? LOL. You don't like it, get another job. Yeah, if you walk off the job you're going to get fired. That's what happens when you don't do your job. Isn't amazing how quickly they learned the language of the liberal sponges? "Living wage for Pennsylvania workers". Fire them all.
"I want to be a surgeon....my childhood dream" Are you kidding me? You can't do some manual labour in your life? You're not a captive worker. You can go home. This is such a joke.
@redanjin I love how you fucking idiots don't see the moral dilemma. For the six billionth time, THEY DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR A SHIT FACTORY JOB: They were lured in with promises of a learning internship. How fucking difficult is it to realize this? They are essentially "captive" because they dropped all of their money for travel costs getting here, then were shoved into a shitty job and threatened with deportation. I swear you people don't even watch the video.
@nois3 How exactly are the students being greedy? They didn't expect an amazingly profitable job. They expected a learning experience to prepare themselves for the future. That was the point of coming to the US. Hershey's exploited this for quick labor at their price.
@Mooperty - "Hershey's exploited this for quick labor at their price."
You're a fucking idiot. You're so BEYOND stupid you cannot understand that the students are breaking their word. They're greedy liars just like you. But you're too stupid to understand that. They agreed to work. If they don't like it then quit and leave.
But fascists like you NEED your Socialist Worker's Unions to harass, intimidate, and violently assault anyone and everyone who doesn't pay you $50/hr for jack shit.
@thomaserossi What's more likely, that a big business would exploit people for profit or that college students would bitch about having a job? Do you honestly think that big companies are on your side? Do you realize that they are here to make money off you, not for your fucking convenience?
Also, you called me a fascist and a socialist in one breath. Do you understand politics whatsoever, or do you just repeat commonly spouted platitudes to make yourself seem intelligent and important?
@thomaserossi I see what's going on here, you're so blindly patriotic that you probably assume that "because someone is foreign they only want to take away from me and my country". Are you still oblivious to the moral issue at hand? What the fuck is wrong with you? The issue isn't the money, you oblivious cunt, its the fact that these students were intentionally mislead.
Did they not read the contract before they signed it? They are not captive workers, they are free to quit and leave the company. I feel bad for the people, but I don't see that Hershey did anything wrong. It sounds like they subcontracted the labor out, so if anything the issue lies with the subcontractor and not Hershey. There are rules and regulations in place for worker safety that cannot be broken. If they broke the law, prosecute. If they didn't, then shut up about it or quit.
What a bunch of whining losers. This is a production line job. Did you think you would be given flowers and chocolates every half hour?!?! If you don't like it, leave, you bunch of ingrates. We work hard in this country. Get used to it, or go home.
@lhensell I agree with you. What Hersheys is doing wrong is by not giving every job they have to an American Citizen. There are millions out of work here. If companies don't care then there should be a law against it and a lawstrong enough to put themout of business and in prison forthe rest of their lives.
these are foreign workers, who gives a shit? These jobs should be for Americans, I have no sympathy for these people. Hershey should be ashamed for not hiring Americans and the foreign workers should leave if they aren't happy. Quite simple
OMG!!! Why would you work at a Hershey's factory if you were going to be a doctor? The job experience isn't even the same! Besides, you think an operating room is less stressful than factory work!
On a side note: Union contracts with companies like this are one of the reasons that jobs are being shipped overseas!!!
This tells one side of the story, a side that is like coached, and coerced since a union is involved. Now lets hear the other side. My knee jerk reaction is, maybe these people should return to their country of origin to pursue fruitful opportunities. Since a union is involved, make no mistake these workers will be used by the union that is blaming the company for doing the same thing. Beware.....
What a load of shiat. GTFO of my country and GO HOME you ungrateful self-entitled ingrates if you're so unhappy. No one's forcing to you to stay here. PISS OFF!
let me the first to welcome you to America where we WORK HARD!!, that's why we have what we have! Exorbitant rent? sound like 200 a week, do they have their own place or sharing? Not really a lot if all utilities are included . Are they locked in to their area? They said they are going to school right? Oh they obligatory crying liberal..such drama queens. Give them their full pay for mindless work and let them find their own place. problem solved. Hersey had to spend money to train you. ugh..
As much as I loathe unions there is likely some truth to this vid. I know several Russian, Chinese, Latvian students who came over to work on similar programs and it is, in many cases, pure exploitation. More power to them for organizing.
I's so going to work there after this video. If something wrong will happen i'll just... Oh boy this will be fun!!

I'm surprised that stuff like this shocks people. ANYTHING is possible in America, including modern day slave conditions.
It's America, yet you hold it up so high.
If it was the America you were brain washed to love, this wouldn't have ever come close to happening. I'm an American, and not proud of it.

What a shock that a shitty, unethical company would act poorly. I've signed the petition and all the best of luck to these brave students!
But I'm not buying Hershey anyway until they stop exploiting the slaves on their chocolate farms, either.
OonaCanute 1 month ago
The J-1 visa that these kids signed up for is meant to promote cultural exchange and to give them business or medical training. None of which they are getting by packing chocolate. And what part of "they were threatened with deportation" do you not understand? They can't just leave or get another job because they signed up for a special visa. This is exploitation because they can't leave and being forced to do work that they shouldn't under J-1. The 'these people are lazy' crowd can GTFO.

MoonLitCat 2 months ago
All immigrants used to work this hard.Of course foreign students are being used. There millions of unemployed Americans,if those jobs were decent there would be plenty of American workers willing to take those jobs. Those student expected to do nothing and get payed a lot of money. That's it.

This video exploits foreign students and turns them into lazy, whiny union-drones. My grandparents were GLAD to have a job doing anything in America. Would like to hear all the hidden facts on this story.
spankula123 4 months ago
Now FOREIGNERS are ENTITLED to the AMERICAN dream? What they are experiencing is sacrifice...not inhumane conditions. But why would I expect them to understand...after all it wasn't their forefathers who sacrificed their LIVES for the freedom and opportunity they seek. Rise up all you who think your strong, and take root in the land you were born. Only a coward seeks the gold of his neighbor, but the courageous rejoice in the gold they have earned.
Jimboberlow 4 months ago
@Jimboberlow You, sir, are an idiot. That's not what these people are looking for. They are hardworking students that already have goals in other areas and working hard to get them. Put yourself in their position. You're a student working to become, say, a surgeon. You get offered temporary job for a large company in a foreign country. Only upon arriving do you find that you are being robbed of the money you've earned, will be in debt, and if you try to leave you will be in even greater debt.

TeMpTeK1 4 months ago
@TeMpTeK1 As what Mooperty said "You're misinformed or completely missing the moral issue. Sure, its an American job, but they were lead to believe that they would be working a rewarding, learning intensive internship. They were given a job on a production line. They can leave, sure, but only back to their respective countries because Hershey's is threatening deportation, and they already spent a lot of money getting to the US. It's a horrid bait and switch situation, not just a job."

I can't even imagine some in the offices at Hershey didn't know about this potential public-relation nightmare.
bndhdsn 5 months ago
Reading everyone's comments is hard on this one. I agree, this is a factory line job, and they can go home... but remember, these people that came didn't come for what they thought was a factory job. It's a bait and switch and a sham that Hershey has done to people from another country. As for everyone that is unemployed and says "I'd do that job" the sad part about it is you will remain so, because Hershey would rather mistreated foreigners than hire you. Recognize the truth behind the actions.
MMgirl23 5 months ago
You fucking lazy wining little shits. Go home to your home country. Did you expect not to work for your wages????? Good Lord I've never seen such losers cry about how "my back hurt" "they're only concern was production", then learn a trade and become self employed and stop crying. Pussies the bunch of them.
hoppyman50 5 months ago
Chocolate workers local 464? LOL. You don't like it, get another job. Yeah, if you walk off the job you're going to get fired. That's what happens when you don't do your job. Isn't amazing how quickly they learned the language of the liberal sponges? "Living wage for Pennsylvania workers". Fire them all.
redanjin 5 months ago
"I want to be a surgeon....my childhood dream" Are you kidding me? You can't do some manual labour in your life? You're not a captive worker. You can go home. This is such a joke.
redanjin 5 months ago
@redanjin I love how you fucking idiots don't see the moral dilemma. For the six billionth time, THEY DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR A SHIT FACTORY JOB: They were lured in with promises of a learning internship. How fucking difficult is it to realize this? They are essentially "captive" because they dropped all of their money for travel costs getting here, then were shoved into a shitty job and threatened with deportation. I swear you people don't even watch the video.
Mooperty 5 months ago
I dunno who's greedier Hershey or these student
nois3 5 months ago
@nois3 How exactly are the students being greedy? They didn't expect an amazingly profitable job. They expected a learning experience to prepare themselves for the future. That was the point of coming to the US. Hershey's exploited this for quick labor at their price.
Mooperty 5 months ago
@Mooperty - "Hershey's exploited this for quick labor at their price."
You're a fucking idiot. You're so BEYOND stupid you cannot understand that the students are breaking their word. They're greedy liars just like you. But you're too stupid to understand that. They agreed to work. If they don't like it then quit and leave.
But fascists like you NEED your Socialist Worker's Unions to harass, intimidate, and violently assault anyone and everyone who doesn't pay you $50/hr for jack shit.
thomaserossi 5 months ago
@thomaserossi What's more likely, that a big business would exploit people for profit or that college students would bitch about having a job? Do you honestly think that big companies are on your side? Do you realize that they are here to make money off you, not for your fucking convenience?
Also, you called me a fascist and a socialist in one breath. Do you understand politics whatsoever, or do you just repeat commonly spouted platitudes to make yourself seem intelligent and important?
Mooperty 5 months ago
@thomaserossi I see what's going on here, you're so blindly patriotic that you probably assume that "because someone is foreign they only want to take away from me and my country". Are you still oblivious to the moral issue at hand? What the fuck is wrong with you? The issue isn't the money, you oblivious cunt, its the fact that these students were intentionally mislead.
Open your fucking mind.
Mooperty 5 months ago
Did they not read the contract before they signed it? They are not captive workers, they are free to quit and leave the company. I feel bad for the people, but I don't see that Hershey did anything wrong. It sounds like they subcontracted the labor out, so if anything the issue lies with the subcontractor and not Hershey. There are rules and regulations in place for worker safety that cannot be broken. If they broke the law, prosecute. If they didn't, then shut up about it or quit.

lhensell 5 months ago 2
@lhensell I agree with you. What Hersheys is doing wrong is by not giving every job they have to an American Citizen. There are millions out of work here. If companies don't care then there should be a law against it and a lawstrong enough to put themout of business and in prison forthe rest of their lives.
hiway280z 5 months ago
these are foreign workers, who gives a shit? These jobs should be for Americans, I have no sympathy for these people. Hershey should be ashamed for not hiring Americans and the foreign workers should leave if they aren't happy. Quite simple
Innvertigo 5 months ago 2
OMG!!! Why would you work at a Hershey's factory if you were going to be a doctor? The job experience isn't even the same! Besides, you think an operating room is less stressful than factory work!
On a side note: Union contracts with companies like this are one of the reasons that jobs are being shipped overseas!!!
heavym3tal 5 months ago 2
This tells one side of the story, a side that is like coached, and coerced since a union is involved. Now lets hear the other side. My knee jerk reaction is, maybe these people should return to their country of origin to pursue fruitful opportunities. Since a union is involved, make no mistake these workers will be used by the union that is blaming the company for doing the same thing. Beware.....
dorightfearnothing 5 months ago 2
