I believe that feminists believe that male on female rape is about power and not about sex. That's because they are ascribing female motivations to male rapists. Women use sex to get resources, money, security, job security or advancements, favors, etc... So, for women, sex is about power. For men, sex is about satisfying a hunger, a drive. As usual, the feminists can't comprehend reality because they are too self-absorbed to see beyond themselves.
@ActaNonVerba71 You are overgeneralizing. There are women who have sex purely for pleasure. Camille Paglia seems to have a problem with this, which makes her a dago cunt.
@CroMagna I don't think there is any reason for us to communicate further about this if you don't want to speak like a serious person. This following is the equivalent of what you are doing: Person A says: People go to college because they want to be competitive, get ahead, or learn. You: You are overgeneralizing. There ar people who go to college only because their multi millionare dad won't leave them the inerhitance if they don't. I say...ummm....okay....what's your point?
It's a beautiful aesthetic life when you view it through a combination of tradion and books you've read at the Yale Library. When you start to recycle old Freudian Bisexualism and attempt to repackage it in a kind of Warholian Popism, you have to eventually answer for a lot. The idea that in this day and age homosexuality is not an identity makes you a fool. Have all the PhDs and books you want, you are simply INCORRECT.
Miss Paglia, how does it become a world in which men have lost influence and power over female sexuality to a world where you now devalue the choices women have, and now wish women would "turn back to men"? I realize it's given rise to insidious reality shows, as well as Friends, but you've only analyzed and made fun. There's been no cogent argument on your part why cultural changes shouldn't take a long time, or, it seems, even have a time in the sun.
So far the whole rape dialogue is incredibly interesting. Paglia seems to be on the side of implicit consent, whereas the contra would argue thata man is simply stronger. Prosecutions normally say that women are too ashamed and traumatized in the immediate aftermath to report to the police. Then there are the cases with "rich people" where the defense is SHE wanted him to be "rough" in order to make a case. I think Paglia's arguing Rape is Rape, and it's pretty clear cut when it happens.
Wow, I can't believe I'm hearing a feminist - who usually drive me crazy with the "rape is whatever/whenever/however I say it is" - who actually has a more limited definition of rape than I have. I mean as much as I hate the abuse of rape/harassment definitions, I do NOT think going to someone's apartment means you consent to sex. That's crazy.
I wish 90's Bill Maher could see now Bill Maher so he could kick himself in the balls for using the race card, anytime anyone opposes Obama's anything. The left are obsessed with race, make issues out of race when there are none distracting from real issues, use race when they need to shame without evidence, what fucking huge racists they are! Color Blind they are not!
Excellent! -- two bright, articulate & unorthodox personalities. Did not know that this interview existed! It would be wonderful if he could have her on his Real Time show some time.
Thanks you soooo much for this. I think I was only a kid when this interview occurred and so I missed it. But, they are both idols of mine.

At the end of this interview, Camille Paglia is either the best ironist AND satirist, or just the best stand up comedian of the 90s!
