I remember this video as well. There was always this astra channel on ASTRA 1A and 1B was about to start.

I like that analog noise,.. white and black fish ... or drop-outs? We called it fishes in slovakia :D

Those black and white teardrops that plague PAL analogue satellite tv picture are called sparklies and are indicative of:

weak signal strength usually caused by using too small a dish size for the satellite/channels you are receiving ie at the centre of the satellite's footprint a

60cm dish should suffice but at the edge of each contour the signal strength drops off and a 80cm dish is required and so on. A badly aligned dish can also cause sparklies too.

i've seen this around 2000! nice music in this one. i'm still searching for the music of another similar thing when a tv station called "sky tv" or something went digital. they had some really nice techno/d&b music in the background and a still image. anyone remembers it?

Analogue PAL satellite transmissions suffer from poor weather attenuation/rain fade;and this can be accenuated with the following conditions,

(a)Too small a dish for the satellite reception area you are viewing in(a 60cm dish system being used in a weaker signal strength area of a satellite's footprint),

(b)Badly aligned dish antennae showing variety of results on various H/V transponders some channels sparkly some clear some with one or two sparklies.
