It's hard to understand why Balint and Popescu didn´t take a penalty in the shoot-out. Instead, the NT coach Ienei ordered Daniel Timofte to take one, when he was a nobody in the national team and had entered the game as reserve. I don´t get it. The absence of Lacatus was crucial too, since he was an expert penalty taker.

I am Romanian, but i don't think the Ireland team of the 90's was better than the one today. Ireland back in the 90's was just lucky and i'll have to say it , they played horrible. I think it's the only team in football history to reach the quarter finals without winning one game. They played way better in' 94.

I am not saying this, because Romania lost, i'm saying this just as a football fan.

And i do think the whole team played way better. However i would give anything to see this Romanian line up myself too...today is just ridiculous.

Tony Cascarino was just blessed to see his penalty hit the back of the net, he hit the turf before making contact with the ball causing it to spin and bounce twice after he hit it, the spin from the second bounce took the ball away from their goalies hand. If he had hit the ball cleanly, the penalty would have been saved. Magic moments.
