they were very smart in using story arcs on that show. while they alluded to older episodic plots (for running gag effect i suppose), every episode was an entity by itself and did not need you to watch other episodes to understand what the situation was. they kept the core the same throughout all the years too. no changing actors, no adding char. no erasing char. just the four ppl, their cohorts, and some recurring char. every once in a while never hurt ne body =) well done!!!
