After taking his 102 course I emailed him asking about his views on a particular book. He sent me a full page personal reply with his thoughts on reading material for the subject I was interested in, and other suggestions.
I can't believe he would spend the time to do that for someone he didn't even know. He's a champ
This Is what I needed to hear right now. People have tried to push me into that "box" many times and it is great to get encouragement to pursue all the things that I love from a successful role model.
You're a man I've looked up to. I feel I can relate as I too have many interests, which I refuse to give up. I am currently aiming for a double major in two fields that don't traditionally intertwine; Geography, and economics, with further specialization in Business.
Your lectures and this video motivated me to strive to pursue what I love in life, because as you say, "If you don't love what you're doing, its not worth doing it"
@nsultano "Build your own box." Combine everything that you want to do and do it! Or just do what you want to do. Who cares if you're studying math and you want to get into acting or teaching. Perhaps teach math through acting. As long as you have a passion for something, it's a competitive advantage over others that you can capitalize on. That's how I understand him.
@voister81 He does kind of leave you hanging, but from his entire address you can infer that perhaps his mistake was listening to others, with the best intentions for him, who told him to concentrate and forget about his other interests. It's not always about people giving you wisdom, but what other people can inspire in others. Leaders don't necessarily tell people what to do, but bring the best out of them. It's ultimately you who decides everything in your life.Take it or leave it, your call.

Love the viewpoint. It's what I've been trying, and hearing someone else say it makes me so much more optimistic.
