Bryant's lamp at 0:40 is fascinating! Has it ever been referred to in commentary or Blade Runner books? Are there such lamps in existence? Nice big-game photos.
For the record, I am fully against Deckard being an andy, he isn't in the novel and it sort of takes the philosophical aspect away if all are replicants. So Deck and Rachael would be just a couple of machines loving each other then? No, sorry to say Ridley got that wrong I feel. But I do love the film and rate it as the best one ever made. But he is getting awful close to doing a George Lucas and cutting up, destroying what was once good.
@alfsal67 Ridley Scott's recut of Blade Runner is in no way similar to George Lucas' edits to Star Wars, in the sense that they make the film better, not worse. I've seen all the cuts of the film that they offer on the Five Disc Blu-Ray and I must say that the Final Cut is the best version of the film by far.
@DEOO100 In the first theatrical version Deckard was not replicant, Ridley wanted him to be so he inserted the unicorn dream left out of the first version when he made the Director's Cut. Eldon Tyrell is not in any version of the film facted to be a replicant. When filming they did however make a head for the death scene which showed wires and such. Making him some sort of different mechanical being than the Nexus 6 series. But they left that out also.
You know I have the orignal BR on vhs, but I guess the rich must get richer and can't allow others to see the movie on YT for free, they will be burning in HELL
FUCKING COME ON how petty can this be, NO ONE IS selling T shirts ot illegal copies of the film You fuckers will die
@TheAgwoodliffe As explained in the original voice-over, either be a killer or be a victim. Why Deckard would be a victim is a mystery but one might infer that Deckard is a replicant and Bryant is threatening to retire him for not co-operating. Whether Deckard actually is a replicant is up to one's view of the film, personally I sit on the fence, but don't particularly think it's important.
@MrLunitunz Fair point. As for me personally, I'm gonna agree with Harrison on this one. It would be best if they let Deckard simply be a human. It would make his 'experience' with Roy all the more affective.
@MrLunitunz Your argument makes total sense but I see it as important. If Deckard was a Replicant, then he's a specially designed one, able to show emotion. Like falling for Rachel without dying. He might be a prototype of emotional ability.
@Legba85 Ridley Scott said that Deckard could be Nexus 5 or 6, live for thousands of years. I have argued that Deckard is human. But the Replicants are artificial humans. If you advance that concept far enough there is absolutely no difference between humans and Replicants. I think a simple argument against Deckard being a Replicant is that, like you said, he'd probably be one of, if not, the most advanced and as a result Tyrell would probably recognise him if Deckard walked into his office.
@MrLunitunz Interesting. But if Deckard was (or maybe) that advanced, spotting a Replicant that acts exactly like a human would be impossible. The red eyes got me thinking when I first saw this. Not to mention, that "little people" part got me thinking "you're not the law, only hired help" or was it a command for him to stop.
@Legba85 Most people could probably agree on this: Ridley Scott believes he's a Replicant. So the hints, like the red eyes when Deckard is in the background, are all there. But everybody else involved with the production claim that Deckard is human and Phillip K Dick wrote him as Human.
And I agree. If Deckard is a more perfect version of Rachel, then spotting him through Voight-Kampff would be practically impossible.
@TheAgwoodliffe basically he's saying if you're not a cop you're nothing. the police in blade runner are authoritarian (notice that the monolithic headquarters is so big it can tower over surrounding skyscrapers) and powerful enough to force people (people without influence, anyway) to do what they want.
I take it to mean that if he doesn't cooperate then Bryant will make his life very difficult, bring him down on some charges or murder him or something. Who knows. Bully him basically.
I was actually at Union Station in Los Angeles this summer (first time there) for about 3 hours before taking the train back home to Arkansas, lol... I was kicking myself for not making the connection that I was sitting in Deckard's police HQ until I got home and watched the movie again.

What exactly did he mean by ''little people''?
TheAgwoodliffe 10 months ago
@TheAgwoodliffe hmm, good observation.... Bryant is loosely referring to Deckard's true identity ( which will be revealed at the end of the movie! )
mytwitz2010 10 months ago
@TheAgwoodliffe Look at the original theatrical release. Ford gives the explanation in the voice over.
DarthVaderSama 10 months ago
@DarthVaderSama what does Ford say? By the way, do you know what Director Ridley Scott say about Deckard?

@mytwitz2010 So just to clarify, Bryant was basically threatening to 'pull the plug' on Deckard?
TheAgwoodliffe 7 months ago
@TheAgwoodliffe well, I don't want to speculate on Bryant's intentions regarding Deckard.
However, he did say "no choice pal" which tells me that Bryant does have some kind of control over the Blade Runner...
