This isn't cute or funny at all! The reason this cat appears to "pant" like a dog is because its snout is unnaturally deformed from interbreeding. The poor creature lives a life of discomfort from breathing difficulties because of some peoples' selfish materialistic desire. By buying a kitten like this (which probably cost hundreds anyway) you are encouraging this cruelty. There is a massive surplus of cats in rescue centres which need homes already!

My cat has done that too before, but she ALWAYS wants to play and even brings her toys to me and jumps in my lap, too, so I will play with her, but she doesn't sound quite so asthmatic.

I agree w/the cleft palate comment - it could also be a problem with nasal breathing as it's nose is extremely "pugged". The problem with "exotics" such as these is they are often bred with genetic/physical deformities that create many health problems.

Those type of cats have breathing problems just like snub nose dogs do. Which is wad and wrong to breed them like that.

@lastwolflord Really you should actually get your facts straight. If you buy from a responsible breeder and the nostrils are wide there really isn't a problem. My girls are healthy and happy and they both have extreme flat faces. There really isn't anything wrong with breeding them like that if breed correctly.=/

@baboukis1 I have an exotic myself, and I find that most of them tend to breathe like that after playing or running around. Many persians/exotics have "squished" faces, therefore their breathing is slightly different from regular cats. They also tend to make snorting noises :)

@baboukis1 no you would be correct. these types of cats often have genetic problems with them. people often try skipping the whole breading thing in the sense of doing it properly. they often end up breading them with a direct family line. this is a cheap and messed up way to make some quick money. and it leaves the people that cant afford a pure bread. the option of getting a non pure.

this cat looks like it has a defect in the lower skull. it could also be effecting the cats airway.

@bow2deathwish Cat's can also pant during times of stress, or brisk play. Panting isn't normal in cats, but it doesn't always mean that it's a serious issue.

I love your kitties and this particular breed is very cute but most likely the reason he/she is panting is because they are breeding these kinds of cats with a smaller and smaller nose, so its very hard for them to breathe through their noses. :)

They often do that as kittens when they play hard and I've heard this breed has breathing difficulties due to their noses!!! I think your play regimen has worked well and this is such fluff I'm just gonna scream!!!!

@doggielover89 well its not that it isn't normal but its uncommon. Cats are like dogs in the fact that they have very few sweat glands. A way to over come getting over heated is to breathe in and out quickly to try and cool down. Cats usually don't overwork themselves so its rare if you ever do see a cat panting like that but it is possible.
