It was great to hear the few statements from Kara Walker. Unlike so many of the artists you casually interview at openings, Kara is not afraid of the camera and is open and willing to share. I loved seeing this new work; wonderful to follow the direction young artists are traveling. Mark Bradford's work is wonderful. This was a fabulous show and wonderful video.
Modern art has become the salon art of our day. Check out the art revolution, post-modern art, the conceptual art work that challenges all conceptual art etc.
'Modern' art got started around 1889, 1912 or 1945 depending on who you believe. Of course it is the salon(gallery) of our day, it needs to be seen for it to 'mean', silly.
LOL No I mean it is like the stilted generic bland art of the salon that the impressionists rebelled agains - silly.
I suggest ending galleries, mass reproduction of paintings on canvas, and getting the copies out of the museums and on road trips to everyone in the world. This and much more = the art revolution - part of the bigger all arts and media revolution.
utopian and silly.....art and democracy never work.....what you seem to want is lowest common denominator Arts. we already have that, it's called t.v........most folks don't give a crap about art, and thats their right! Museums and galleries are there for the small poulation that actually enjoys and learn from art. Great art came from the salon and continues to be made by ambitious artists who want to show in galleries and museums. Enjoy your 'revolution', alone.
I want art to be available to all not locked in some ivory tower museum or gallery . Elitism has no place in art - quality of art does. There is a big difference. Join the revolution in arts and media with all the rest of us.
galleries are free to the public and i have yet to see one made of ivory. When someone excels at something it is not elitist to acknowledge it by placing it in a building with other acknowledged works of art and call it a museum. It is an architecture of respect, not elitism. your 'revolution' sounds more like a Nike slogan than anything rooted in reality.
Sameness and status quo is not for everyone. The majority in the world seems bent on conservative art - and seem to oppose all who try anything new. But the majority is not everyone. Time for a revolution in the arts - not a bracing up of modern art that hasn't been modern in 100 years. Art is for everyone.
you are stating that nothing has been 'modern' for 100 years. That is sweepingly ignorant.
i guess Picasso and Matisse and Duchamp and Warhol and everyone else is irrelevant? You are a tool, i'm sorry, but go in a field and stick your head up your own ass and be 'modern'.
5 stars, a good-good video

Kara is a dull ax to the fingers. Mr. Bradford's fences cut cleaner. I like Mr. Bradford's work. A lot. Many thanks.

james it's one of my favorite quotes by you
"Op! There's Jerry!"
Should be your tag-line every time you see him, it probably already is too.

I was thinking I need a theme song for Jerry, maybe the Darth Vader tune. Any suggestions?

Seems like if it's post-modern, it's lagging behind. It's the "'86 Datsun"of our time...

Check out the specifics and you'll see it is not.
