It's "Amok" by the artist known as Lederknacken. I believe that is the spelling. I do have a copy on vinyl. If you have any other New Wave artist or song trivia let me know....DW
I listened to WLIR to the very end, even on the weak 107.1 signal in the middle of nowhere. The ESPN radio thing stinks, AM radio on FM makes no sense.
TMO should've put 'LIR on 98.5 has a better signal, instead of that stupid mexican music.
Only thing we got left is Party 105.3, but it hasn't been the same since Andre left. :-(
I remember listening to the last day WLIR was on the air. I literally have pangs anytime I hear Alphaville's "Forever Young" now. I listened to that station since I was four. An amazing station. Even XM/Sirus' First Wave does not even compare.
Thanks for posting, I swear, there has never been a station like this since - it just rocked. They Dared to be Different and shaped the world for listeners in the NY area for decades to come! Luv you guys!
This is amazing!! I miss this radio station soooo much, I can't believe it's gone!! Nothing has even come close. Could you please, please post stuff from the last say 4-5 years the station was on the air? I miss screamers of the week and the english muffin! :(
I was a HUGE WLIR and WDRE listener when I lived on Long Island. I grew up in Oceanside and Island Park. I have 7 cassettes that I taped off the station and off of albums. If anyone wants to see the list, email me!
I miss 92.7 WLIR so badly...I was devastated when it went off the air the second time in 2004. I havent been able to find a radio station that can play HALF of what was played on WLIR. I listen to my Ipod now which has alot of what WLIR played. I go to Subculture in Amityville on friday nites and they play ALOT of the old music.
I only wish someone would bring back the music under another station...anybody hear me? All WLIR listeners are SUFFERING!! Please bring it back!
Thx for the comment! I want to upload more although its just an audio thing; I have no video footage. But I have hours and hours of WLIR audio dating back from 1983 to the present. Thought it would be a cool thing to share now that it's gone.
It sure brings back lots of memories. I went to Hofstra in the 80s and this was my soundtrack.

I totally agree. I even still have WLIR, and WDRE bumper stickers, window stickers, and Applications for the WLIR card.

The song is "Kiss Me" by Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy.

Not to mention "Unkiss That Kiss" Stephen Duffy original lead singer of Duran Duran, before Simon LeBon, and their first album.
