My AS41 crank case is juct like yours here Hambone. Its got that darkened ridge at the outer mai earing bores. It doeas stop the finger nail like yours but our problem here in the UK is that competent machinists are hard to come by. People have all sorts of complaints after aline boring and they in most cases dont get good use out of their engines. What happenes if i just go ahead and use this case without aline boring it?
Nice to see the builds continuing. Great job Hambone. Let me know what machine work runs ya on the block and crank. I'm at a similar spot on my build as well.
Thumbs up Hambone. I think You US guys have a mcuh more Established VW heritage that we UK guys but we are catching up fast, thanks to Guys like you. Anyways, this is the one for me. I am interested in a 1600 rebuild and credit to you, am doing it myself.
Hi Hambone, ive uploaded some videos as i promised. Check as see my bug project as inspired by you. Am really enjoying this......

man it's so hard to say.....personally....if the ridge is that minimal, i would go ahead and build it without machine work.
keep us posted man!
