@AntiChinksFederation One is always constant mouse clicking which is not much fun, and the other has physical controls for controlling everything in one box that can sequence on the fly and make music for hours without a single mouse click. Try setting up a DAW to do that!
used to have one of these. Fun for just messing around but if you are serious about putting your tracks out stay far far away. Loading samples from the card took me more than a half hour each time I started it up. And why does it take two save slots to save a mono sample? To really edit a sound you must use the computer. And when you save your track, it never sounds the same when you load back up.The sounds are cheesy, bass is extremely weak. Motorized faders were really good though,. Thats it!
Hi. Based on your trax and the work done by Denkitribe, I purchased an EMX-1 and KAOSS pad....and just picked up an ES-1 Mk II and ER-1 on eBay. These tools, coupled with my VoiceLive 2, Electro-Harmonix Voice Box, and Korg/Behringer controllers should help me make some sweet J-Pop/J-Rock tunes and vocals.. Can't wait to get everything hooked up and coupled to my AT-2020 microphones! Again, thanks for all of your trax! Domo arigato gozaimasu!
wow that's almost like playing a real instrument and kind of like composing your own beat. now all you need to do is not sample a beat and not loop anything then your half way there on making a real song
What would you suggest for a guy like me who likes nice bass and shit. I mean I'm thinking of buying the 808 but hearing this turns me off just a bit I want to make like Jungle and house shit. Maby some acid house ha ha.
Yes you can make anything on the 808. It has a great sound library and rhythm section. More importantly you can create your own patches. Lets not forget that you can import samples as well.
It all depends on you really. This is a great tool. I have owned a 303,505 and now have a 909. If I could afford a 808 I would have one as well. Get it!
reason doesn't support vst without rewire and thats kind of a pain. If you use another daw trilogy is a good bass vst with some tuning. you could probably get the sounds you seek from messing with reasons synths. Or you can always get a motif rack
sound man.....thanks for taking the time out to reply. Yeah i have a virus c too.So i don't think i need to be looking any further. Head is full of notions just.
I sold my MC808 shortly after making this video, it is useless for bass and the sequencer is quite limited compared to the RS, so I sold it (for quite a loss) the RS7000 is much better in my opinion, but for bass you are better off going for an analogue synth or VA.
The factory presets are the usual horrid cheesy stuff, I took a bass sample from my spectralis into the mc808 and it sounded thin and weak in bass when I compared it to the original, I did the same with my RS7000 and it was much closer to the original sound. Maybe the mc808 has poor a-d convertors or some sort of compression going on, all I know is it was not for me.
The RS7000 is outdated. The MC-808 has a USB port which is pretty cool. I just got into music production, first thing I bought was a Yamaha MO6 workstation, I want a groovebox, which is why I am researching, MC-808 being an option. Also, its selling for $600 new on ebay
The 808 has 4 Reverb FX, 1 Compressor, 1 Pitch Shifter, and 47 other FX. I think you get to use 1 Rev, 1 Comp, 1 Pitch, and 2 Other FX at the same time. At least that's what I hear. I'll have my 808 Monday. :)
FYI... the MC808 DOES auto chop on the machine itself. Download the latest OS update from Rolands site and it will then work. (doingit with a PC simply...well... ummm...SUCKS !
great use of the mc808,i have one, but i'm really new and kind of lost in it, can you tell me how you conect and add outside samples to the mc 808?, thanks...
The origination of that loop is Isaac Hayes - Walk On By. A truely badass tune. It has of course been sampled by countless others but thats where the sample originates.
ok, I don't mind that, I have other gear for live tweekin ;).
I have a roland D2 which i a mc505 in a plastic box.
I can use the 505 pc editor, so it is cool, but I hate the fact that the rhythm sets can not be panned individually, i.e the whole drum set gets panned not just a kick or a snare etc, and stuck on only one track all together. Tell me it is not the same with the mc808 ?
your videos are nice, but i don't like the mc-808. just build to sell. lot of features, but even the electribe emx-1 has a better sound than that. without soul.
Cool I didn't relise it had grain shirt....I wonder if the fx bank is good as the old sp808ex's, roland verbs are so warm and nice, as well as there distortion...guess that s the Boss element.
I take it the pads are vol sensitive ?
How do you rate the faders, will they last ?
Have roland got rid ofthere horrible rezzy stepping filters yet lol ?
I love my sp808ex effects but the rest is rubbish I just keep it for the delays and verbs now.
Yep, it also has a kick-ass synth very similar to the XV/Fantom engine, with 4 tones per voice each with their own filter, envelopes, etc. The best thing though is that you can use your own samples as part of a synth patch, so 4 samples which can be layered/split/velocity switched etc etc. A powerful sound engine.
I just bought a Zoom Street Box and a Roland DR-202 after I get all the samples I want from them I'll probably sell them and get a 808. Then it'd be Yamaha RM1X, XV-5050, and MC-808. Hopefully I'll be content for a while with that setup. :)
darenager your video has opened my eyes.I think an MC808 is going to be early b'day present to me from..me.Can you mix full tracks on it?The fx sound wicked,i was getting inspired listening to that.Nice one
That's pretty damn awesome. I bought an MC-505 last year and didn't even know about the MC-808 coming out. After finally hearing some real experimentation with this machine, I think it's time to pawn off my 505 and get the 808. I primarily make noise based music.

I also have the RS7000 and thinking about buying the MC-808. Be interested to know your opinion on whats best for those chunky house basslines?
I guess what i'm asking you is the MC808 up to the job...has it more to offer.

Can you edit the fx with the software editor ?
Seems a bit crap to only be able to change two fx parameters live.
With the old sp808 you had a total of 6 parameter's you could change but you had to switch between two banks for the three control pots.
H4NDCRAFTED 4 years ago
Yes the downside with the 808 is that any in-depth editing needs to be done on the computer.
