I saw Gino in 78 and beside is incredible energy and likability on stage my biggest impression was how spotlessly he reproduced his music live. He did nothing in the studio his voice or band wasn't capable of live. BOY is that a rarity in the music industry. Also to the guy who called him a one hit wonder obviously doesn't understand his musical substantiality as well as his huge fan base. His big hit was one of his weakest songs.
@eyeswideopen48 actually , as i can remember, this dvd is a mix of "pauper in paradise "tour and "B t B " tour and obviously that 's why we can hear the work of those two amazing drummers of all time
gino fans - how would you categorize (I know, not too good a thing to do) his music? You know, what genre is it? Is it pop? Disco Pop then? What genre is his music now?
I'm just in the process of delving deeper into his works and history, thanks!
@OKandNOWwhat Thank you, I can hear your suggestion of "Fusion Pop" especially since he did that collaboration with Cobham on "We The People" which is like a Pop Fusion thing. Cool! Thank you for your insight!
Only people that lived deeply the seventies can understand that dancing and listening were so closed on those days. That was the reason that made the french "boites" and after the "discos" so important and fashionable.
You have to put Gino in the right picture at the right time!!
The record Powerful People is a masterpeace. Unfortunatly we never had much more!! I have it on CD and it is never forgotten!!
Gino is just feeling the music and wiggling his butt around that HUGE stage. Plus he looks great in white with them Pirate boots. Someone probably said to him you got great looking legs. Pose while your singing...lol
He's no better or worse then Elvis in his white jumpsuit when it comes to their dancing. Gino is just givjng himself something to do during the instrumental solos. I mean what else is a singer gonna do when there is no singing parts yet? He has to do something. Tom Jones danced all over the stage...so did Elvis. Johnny Mathis just stood there and gripped the piano for dear life. I was a singer for 20 years and whenever I did a live show I made sure I had NO songs in my show that left me hangin
You are contributing to the acquaintance of younger generations of Gino's fantastic music and beautiful lyrics,apart from fantabulous arrangements and musicians as well, of course! Many thanks!

@wendileona
He is a genre to himself.
Musically, the closest that I've heard is Steely Dan, but they are not near as funky.
Perhaps "fusion pop"?
His later work is more mainstream, though.
Lack of huge commercial success seemed to tame him.

@JohnMichael52 Truly, the movement was something he worked on to enhance the show.

This is NOT Mark Craney on drums. It's Casey Scheurell. Mark joined the band on the following tour.
