If developer tries to brighten the scene on console, the lighting will look terrible or washed out. This is not the case for PC since they are powerful enough to render Ambient Occlusion. The DX 11 can render a better quality Ambient Occlusion which is easily noticeable in the tech demos.
I don't consider any console for those hardcore games. Not if you like playing with a controller with 14 buttons. PC controls are where the hardcore is at. Mouse, keyboard controls and the fact you must take many hrs to get used to it.

PC games offer more freedom, they have better visuals and frame rates, and they're cheaper. But if you want to consider yourself a "hardcore" gamer, I suggest getting at least one console too because there are a lot more games that come out for the PS3/Wii/360 each year than the PC.

Also, you can get 4 GB of DDR3 RAM for less than $30.

If developer tries to brighten the scene on console, the lighting will look terrible or washed out. This is not the case for PC since they are powerful enough to render Ambient Occlusion. The DX 11 can render a better quality Ambient Occlusion which is easily noticeable in the tech demos.

Have to say i'm surprised at how bad the PS3 version of GTA 4 looks in comparison to the other two. I still prefer the PS3 version for what i think has the superior controls for this game (certainly not all) Theres not much difference between the capabilities of the consoles lets be honest, especially with newer games (yes PS3 got lousy ports in the early days). If we're talking graphics no console will beat the PC for graphics as everything is derived from it. I have all three systems btw

I have a PS3 and a Wii, and they're both awesome, and I love console gaming. But I'd have to give it to the PC for a few reasons. PC games offer more freedom, they have better visuals and frame rates, and they're cheaper. But if you want to consider yourself a "hardcore" gamer, I suggest getting at least one console too because there are a lot more games that come out for the PS3/Wii/360 each year than the PC.

@M16A3SOPMOD nahhhh, my friend has a dual core from like 2007 that runs even crysis 1 at high/veryhigh settings. crsis 1 is more demanding then crysis 2. and when it comes to graphics cards its not really only about the video memory, there are other things you need to consider like core and memory clock speeds. the 9800 is $50 at a shop near me, which is more then twice the ps3's graphics card, which is equivelant to a 7600. also, dont use youtube to compare. you need to see in real life

@M16A3SOPMOD That is just absurd. Dual-core processors like the Athlon II X2 and Wolfdale-based Pentiums can run games just fine. Maybe not at their highest settings, but still much better than the consoles. Same for graphics cards, where 512 MB models still do perfectly fine, although today you you can get a 1 GB HD6670 for just $80, which gives you much better graphics than the consoles, including DirectX 11 and OpenGL 4 support. Also, you can get 4 GB of DDR3 RAM for less than $30.
