  • Who writes lyrics like this anymore??? He's a master...!! Sometimes I hear a song of his and think "husband, YOU should have wrote that for me", LOL!

  • I love this sing!!!

  • fantastic band this was...

  • "and when you come...to cover me...with your kisses...fresh like a daisy...chained up in a lions den..." one of my favorite lines EVER.

  • I want vomit from this prisoners voice. Terry Hall where are you?! And The Colourfield!!!

  • I am imagine myself in my youth and being on Neil's effin' horizon. Let me tell ya. He's frickin awesome. Again, I wish I had been on his horizon. Naked.

  • one of the best albums ever made. i used to listen to the whole thing over and over again...

    "burning and exploding....."

  • Neil Finn - most underrated songwriter of recent history.

  • @yellofury AND one the greatest.

  • Crowded House - The Genius Of Neil Finn. Incredible songwriter and lyrical poet.

"When you come, like a iceburg,, floating darkness,, smashing my hull send me to the bottom of the sea... I should know you better now"

Crowded House is one of the few bands that were just as good live as they were in the studio and that`s a hard act to follow. I`ll never understand why they weren`t massive in the United States.

  • Love this song, love them!!!!!!!!!

  • I find it very difficult to find negative CH comments on here/ reviews in general. I am glad this is the case.

  • Neil Finn is an amazing singer and such a poet. I love this song!

  • Crowded House = The Beatles

  • Linda musica....

    valeu pelo video !!

  • Neil Finn is the best songwriter on the planet. No more comment needed.

  • i'm sure this has been asked before, but why is Paul playing guitar on this one? did he play drums on the album?

  • @ramadarose41 idk, but I love it when he beats on the guitar as thow it were drums.

  • @VirtualSatyr though..sigh.

  • last night late on TV was Crowded House live at the Sydney opera house (1999 I think). I found myself knowing all the words to pretty much every song. I didn't realise they had such an impact on me. So easy to listen to. Love em.

  • Everybody knows them from the song "Don't Dream is Over". Most people are not aware how incredably talented Crowed House are. I wish more people would become more open-minded, and realize what a great skillful band they are missing out on.

  • RIP Paul Hester.

  • @EGTycoon

and they cook the best egg rolls before each concert!

  • *****. 2:20

  • this song grows on you

  • Love this song

  • rip paul

  • Neil is GOD!!! <3

  • What a voice. One of the most distinct of his era. These guys were so f-ing great.

Saw them live three times, and have rarely seen a band nail it like these boys could. Skill, humor, energy, sincerity.

  • @nitedrive you're lucky to have seen them three times. i've only seen 'em once, and that was last August 2010 in Austin, Texas. i was gonna ask ya, "whaddya mean "were so effing great?" LOL they are STILL EFFING AWESOME! though Paul is a definite missing factor, Matt Sherrod does a fantastic job keeping the little seat warm and beating those skins beautifully. i had the pleasure of meeting all of them in Austin, and not only do the boys still have it, but they are such gracious gentlemen.

  • One of their loveliest songs - the other one of similar quality being "Can't carry on" - in my humble opinion! :-)

  • This has got to be one of the greatest drum rolls in a pop song. Paul Hester at his perfect best.

  • This renders pretty much all the music out right now as dogpiss.

  • The Words to this song just damn amazing!!!! AwEsUm SoNg!! LoNg LiVe CrOwDeD HoUsE!!!! ;D

  • She came out of the water, in to my horizon,

    like a cumlonimbus.....

    GOD that is GREAT!!!

  • :48-:58 :)

  • The Passer bys in Japan wouldn't know what had happened!!!

  • I like how they give everyoen Gretsches to play on even Hessie!! fun video !!one of the best songs off their 2nd album

  • Neil has been tarred and feathered in TALENT. No other lyricist has the insight or passion of NEIL! Gift from God!!!!

  • I agree, but not just lyricist, his music is so beautiful, he is a one in more than a lifetime and I really can't think of any other musician that can come close. He has it all

  • great group

  • they just dont make music like they used to.. Epic album.

  • One of their best songs

  • thanks for posting this. Temple of Low Men, one of my fave albums, and this song in particular is just flippin amazing.

  • My favorite song...Temple of Low Men is by far their best album...Thank you for the post!

  • my favorit C. house song

  • CH rock

  • IMHO this is easily THE BEST song Neil has ever written, an absolutely PERFECT Pop song in every way imaginable and one of the best songs about carnal love I've ever heard! It's an absolute travesty this man hasn't been inducted into the RRHOF yet traddle like Donna Summer are there!

  • Nails in my Feet dude!

  • were burning and exploding =D

  • Amazing song, one of favourites!

  • watching this just reminds me what a sad loss Paul was, he was a funny and talented guy who won't be forgotten R.I.P Paul

  • Neil Finn is clearly the more talented of the Finn Brothers. Whenever he wrote or sang it was better than anything that Tim had done. Neil Fin you Rock.

  • like a cumulonimbus coming in from the distance burning and exploding... these guys are great! Neil Finn is one incredible songwriter. his lyrics are always so exciting, rich. this is power pop unlike the sappy pop of today. awesome vibe, good feelings listening to this wonderful band. how unfortunate about paul hester...

  • 3:24 to the end is the BEST! I just love how the song builds, and really kicks in! The band is timeless, and legendary...Always in my heart...

  • Paul Hester.R.I.P rest in heaven buddy.

  • I assure you he is reading all your comments about him on Youtube from Heaven!! Go Paul!!

  • One of the best songs on TOLM

  • saw neil in an up close and personal concert 5 yrs ag0 - fantastic, brilliant, soz about paul, so sad, this is his legacy -0 luv ya crowded house

  • lol he is just running around. such a funny guy.

  • Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen another band have the drummer playing a guitar in a film clip before. Hester the Jester always added a lot of humour to CH in their shows and in interviews.

  • Yes he did, its such a shame he's gone, it brings a tear to the eye...:(

He surely brought a lot of humour into the Band...

  • In the video for The Swinger's song "One Track Mind" you see the drummer play guitar at one point.

  • Same! Hess Rocks!

  • Is Paul actually playing guitar on the track - or just running around with it so he gets to move about with the guys in the clip? You're a funny bastard Paul, RIP mate.

  • I got to see Tim Finn and band last weekend. His band is amazing, his voice is like a razor, and all I want to listen to is Crowded House. It's really hard to watch these videos because of Paul Hester, to me he was always so cool, and such a great drummer. Finn was always experimenting with percussion and Hester didn't act like a diva, he played what the song needed. R.I.P. Paul If I could play half as good as you I would be a happy man.

  • ditto on the last comment. all time favorite singer/songwriter along with Peter Gabriel & Midge Ure. Not what I expected for this video at all, and kinda' glad about that.

  • Neil Finn is a freakin' genius. I cannot get tired of listening to Crowded House or his solo work; it's so unique and so diverse and it's never boring...great music, great lyrics, great voice.

  • Been a fan for years, never seen this. It wasn't a hit in the UK and only a few Top 40 singles had their videos played.

I finally realised YouTube could take me back in time!

Crikey they look young. Spose I was too!

RIP Paul - I saw him live so many times, what a loss.

  • SOOO MANY excellent songs has Neil written yet it's THIS one-if I were pinned to the wall to name my all time favourite-that remains my choice as his masterpiece!

  • Incredible! so young and brilliant- this is absolutely one of my favorites

Thank you & cover you with kisses hard like armor!

  • underneath the heavens with the stars burning and exploding classic! :-)

  • Agreed treespiritlove. However this Christian thinks that this is one of the best songs ever written. And I've been a fan since the Split Enz days!

  • * love

  • I lov this song sooooo soooo sooooo sooooooo much :)

  • CH võiks eestisse tulla :'(((

  • Võiks, aga kas nad enam üldse tegutsevadki?

  • hallo XD neil on praegu tuur ju :D euroopas on ka, just lisasid mingi 2 venemaa kuupäeva, no juhuu -.- kobigu siia xD

  • hmm siis küll. Muide, vaata dont dream it´s over videot. Esimese mindi juures on seal mingi lamp, mille peal on vana toomase kuju ja all kiri "tallinn"... norm. Maailm on väike :p

  • jaaa nii nunnnnnu O_O XD

keegi delfi naistekast just ütles seda täna.. was it you? :D:D

  • eee... ei, ma ei käi seal :D

    Aga kummaline :p

  • haha siis on küll naljakas jah XD

    aga ülilahe ikkagi :D

seda enam võiksid nad siia tulla :-)

  • Well good Fabulous people I am here to rant & rave & make such a big lovefilled post that it shall push down all offending posts and none will be the wiser excepting to say that Crowded House is AMAZING SUPER SPECTACULAR FABULOUS WONDERFUL DEDICATED ZEALOUS CRAFTY CLEVER FINE-WITTED GENIOUS ...[Oh dear Ive run out of words]... Quick!!! QUICK!! Someone else post up a descriptive for this SUPER BAND! Im passing on the Baton of GOOD WILL & LOVE!

Enjoy the music, Swim in the relish!! LUV this Band!

  • Amen.Crowded House forever.

  • Another lovely song by a great group!

  • I was reading the history of these posts, came accross the religious rantings, and just want to say this, "Not the right forum for this topic at all, show some discretion and respect for others".

  • im glad you are challenging that guy on the whole christian fundamentalist rant hes on. even jesus could nuance between right and wrong, his modern day followers cannot they sit and prosetetlyze over an ancient text and watch as our world goes to greed and animals get wiped out and people are reduced to desparation. im a christian by proxy and all i see is talking heads obsessing about bullshit red herring issues like homosexualiy and abortion. get it together before it becomes irrelevant.

  • You poor faggot. Go get fucked by your dad.

  • Best song ever.

    Don't be cocky paulocean

  • Im sorry... clearly You missed the entire point of my comments..... you poor soul

  • The Only True Religion Is MUSIC...

It is Passionate, It is Compassionate, Its is Non Judgemental & Above All Else Promotes Peace & Understanding. As the lord once said "All You Need Is Love" Oh my mistake, That was Lennon/McCartney... Why don't you the world a favour Noeuro & stick your head up your own arse & truly see yourself for the pathetic life form that you are.

Long Live Paul Hester's Infectious Spirit...

P.s. Don't Bother with a response because you're not worthy of one!!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting that. It's so nice to see people that think for themselves instead of blindly following something and preaching it to everyone else.

    Much Love

    Rhi

  • Noeuro..... Ask yourself this....

How are you going to feel when you reach the end of the path YOU have chosen to walk, only to realize that all you have been led to believe in, is nothing but Bullshit built upon lies & hatred. If Paul Hester was a sinner then I subscribe to his way of life.. The really sad part of this is that you feel the need to diminish his very character & persona in order to justify your own pathetic existance!!!!

  • I LIKE THE DOUBLE MEANING IN OUR LIFE.

    G

  • you sad fuckers,go and play some sport.

  • My favorite song by them!! Big Precipice music I call it!! You want to sing this song from the tallest mountain top with all the world below you.....love it!!

  • Wow, love this song. Poetry set to great music. *sigh* Crowded House is so under-appreciated here in the U.S.

  • why don't you just fuck off. I'm sick of reading your comments.

if you're a troll, you're desperately unfunny and annoying.

if you're actually a real person, I pity you.

you give christians a bad name. have some respect for the last time.

  • I'd rather spend an eternity in hell than one second in any place with a douchebag like you. Did following Jesus make you an asshole or were you born that way?

  • How do you know where Hester is now? God is his judge not you.

  • yeah, i know...i am a christian...but how do you know what paul was going through in the end?? Only God knows that...There are going to be alot of surprises in the end...I just don't think you should be so judgemental without all the facts, which you could not possibly know...i would rather be hopeful in such cases, not the other way around...

  • Noeuro the people that come to watch Crowded House videos are here for the enjoyment of the music and remembering the good times that this band gives us. Contantly talking about God-Jesus-bible and how someone that was hurting did a terrible thing is just sad. This is not the right place for it. You sound so smug and happy that you think someone is in hell....not very Christian.

  • oh yeah, and stop arguing about Paul... have some respect!

  • "she came out of the water, into my horizon, like a cumulo nimbus..." what a line!

  • Whence do you know, that he didn't beleive in God short time after death? And whence do you know how is in the Last Judgment? Were you there or what??? You won't convince me. I will pray for him.

  • I replay my question: Whence do you know, that Paul didn't believe in God short time before death???

BTW. Better look at your sins, please.

  • Judas believed on Jesus but killed himself. He now resides in hellfire.

If you've accepted Christ you don't kill yourself you repent and live for Him.

    Don't follow Paul Hester's example.

  • Not the place for this discussion.

  • good question. I just posed the same thought before I saw your comment. peace to you. :)

  • God, you'd think Ebony and Ivory had never been written! Neil Finn you are the most beautufl man on the planet! Luv always.

  • one can choose a lot of things to believe in these days, me personally i don't like people telling me what to do, especially people who have been dead for over 1900 years writing about stuff which is clearly open for debate. jezus never wrote anything and he was wise not to do so just look at the evil people do hiding behind words from the bible, thora, koran etc. every living being knows the difference between wrong and right for himself, everybody has a personal connection with the divine.

  • isn't it the best that we can enjoy the freedom to all have opinions? long live democracy! (and youtube!)

  • When a person is delusional it's called insanity. When many people are delusional it's called religion.Let that be a warning too!

  • Then call Jesus delusional.

He came to save you from sin and death by taking your place in judgement.

If you reject this then you remain in your original state.

  • I don't call Jesus delutional at all.Contrary to the old ,static moral judgement BS that some people choose to be so stuck on,The man stood up for love not sin.Move on for Christ sake!

  • WRONG!

Jesus came to DIE for us, to take our place in punishment for our sins.

By saying what you do you belittle what Jesus did for us.

Paul Hester DID NOT believe on Christ crucified for sins.

Therefore he is lost in the fire of hell for eternity.

    Don't follow Paul Hester.

  • I'm just as popular as the pope.I just don't have as many people who believe in me. Think off center!

  • david, you're a grown man: you ought to know better than to hurt peoples feelings while pretending you're doing them a favour.

do you really think that's something jezus would do?

  • Jesus got up the nose of plenty of people whilst he was on the earth, he wasn't afraid of telling the truth. He told the truth because he loves people and wants to save them from eternal death. That's why he came. He came to die in our place. To be the substitute for the penalty of sin. He became our sin so that he could be punished and judged for us.

If we reject what he did for our sake, who else is there to pay this penalty apart from ourselves?

Mohammed or Buddha did not die for us.

  • well..im eleven

    nd i play drums

and that there paul hester hes my idol!

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • That's a good idol. Way underrated drummer.

  • Yeah Man Definately !

  • you are awesome

  • what the fuck? Who would say that. Noeuro. Go fuck yourself!

  • suicide is not one of the unforgivable sins, im sure he must have been feelin pretty fukin bad to do it, so jesus would understand that dont you think?

  • Hey, noeuro

Paul didn't believe in God. He commited suicide. Yes, BUT... God loved and loves him as all of us. And no one of us-living knows what He did at Last Judgment. Suicide is one of FORGIVABLE sins, when is due to depression (read it in Catechism of the Catholic Church). I'm pretty sure, God looked at Paul's good act. And if he's in purgatory, our prayers will help him. So, dude if you are SO, SO religious, you should know that we must forgive sins each other and pray for deceased.

  • The Roman Catholic Church and the religion they invented didn't exist at the time of Christ. There is no purgatory in the Bible.

Christ himself said, "If you believe in me you shall find eternal life." "If you don't believe in me, YOU'RE CONDEMNED."

I've already quoted him once from the Bible.

Basically if you reject Jesus' atoning death for your sins, you die in your own sins and have to pay for them eternally.

Paul Hester rejected Christ, lest he accepted him just before death, he is lost.

  • Noeuro,

Although you profess your beliefs as religious, to a non-believer, you appear as a pretty fucking evil person.

  • edmills,

Go tell that to Jesus who said these words, not I.

Jesus said, "If you believe not that I am you shall die in your sins", "He who believes not in me is condemned."

You only get one chance in this life. It isn't a joke or something to be taken lightly. We're all sinners, we need to receive Christ's substitutionary and atoning death for us.

Let Paul Hester's death serve as a warning.

  • I think this topic is compltely off base. This is not the proper forum for this discussion at all.

  • There are many things, that could retire humans from God. Who knows, maybe Paul wasn't going to church as a child or so.

Remember, he suffered in his life, because of depression. And that would be a penance.

I agree, suicide is a sin and we better don't do it, but don't condemn afflicted. Pray for him, don't condemn him... He needs our memory and prayers very much.

  • the best song in the whole world, gives me the shivers :)

  • Having had a crush on Neil since I first saw him on a Split Enz album cover, I've got much better fantasies of how this vid should look... But then, that would probably make him blush. He's said Kiwi's are pretty reserved people.

  • definitely seem underrated when you hear about the non-music so prevalent in our world today. neil finn is brilliant---lyrically & musically. crowded house in a class alone.

  • i agree! fully!

    love love love neil finn.

  • cool.

  • i heart that you responded to my response.

    :)

  • "Soooo underated??" etc, these guys very very popular, sold a lot of records and were criticaly aclaimed.

  • I LOOOVE this song!

  • Timeless. Musically, the build up gives me chills. Cried when they sang this live in San Francisco. They also did my fav Split Enz song, Message to my Girl. So underrated. I also saw Neil + Eddie Vedder do this live. Classic. Miss these days and my mates Jennifer, Evan, Biff. Cheers.

  • awsome song ,love crowded house ,timeless music

  • ¡¡¡Como suenaaa!!! '80s forever!!! sin dudaaa simple minds & crowded house lol

  • Wow! Crowded House in Japan! Nice 1!!

  • what is it i like about this? might be how he is passionate but not about anger or sadness, just hope and happiness

  • one of their best songs from probably the strongest album - CH are seriously good

  • goddamn, i love this band. this song gives me chills.

  • Not too keen on the video but the song is brilliant,I like the lyric...she came out of the water like a cumulonimbus coming in from a distance...sounds like my missis..lol;

  • My all time favorite song, but I never liked the video.

  • The most underated band ever. Every song a classic' with lyrics that mean something and a melody that makes your forget where you are and what you're doing. Their music shouldn't be categorised as we'll be listening to it for years to come. Absolutely brilliant.

  • I agree. I've been listening to them since the 80's and still love this band.

  • Road Station Wauchope North Australia we saw this CD 'Temple of Low Man' and thought it would be nice during our trip through Austr. Next 6 weeks on the road we had much fun with it. We drove 15000 miles and it was great to hear this music. Endless road, musical joy. I had to cry when I heard of the drummer and his depressions. Temple of 'low' man' RIP Paul Newell Hester.

  • they are back

  • This is one of Crowded Houses best songs.....fantastic!!

  • This is a band that can go as deep as you care. From their happy go lucky debut album to the farewell gig.

The more you listen the more you like.Neil Finn channels what the Beatles would be like 30 years on great words, great melodies, real music. Of course America never really caught on and Chocolate Cake was bad way to start the 3rd album (a bit of a kick in the gibleys for us yanks) But probably the biggest problem was the name! Crowded House? What kid can look cool with THAT tshirt?

  • Mate, I agree with the Beatles sentiment! Crowded House is the perfect name for this band because it came from the fact that the Finn household was 'crowded' with talent!

  • NOT one hit wonders! Unfortunately grunge and metal took over the airwaves (in US) soon after "Temple of Low Men" It was like I graduated high school and the real world and the death of music both kicked me in the rear at the same time! I have to admit many people in the US assume that if a band isn't big here after 1 or 2 songs they simply don't exist anymore.

  • hahahaha. one hit wonder. obviously not a crowded house fan huh guys? Where are you from? because this song was rarely played in the states if at all. By the way, if you think this is bad, this is poetry.

  • This is one of my utmost favourite tracks... You have to listen to it really really loud.. I was never a huge crowded house fan until i heard this song. It's sooo great to dance to... has to be loud though! ;o) Love the build up throughout the song.... burning and exploding... ''burning and exploding...... when you come.... waaaa.... will I share it... will i share it.... baby, when you come... etc etc..''

    Fantastic!

  • one hit wonder? someone lives in a small world...

  • 'one hit wonder' what a statement. maybe they didn't get that big overseas. Remember too, that some of neil finns best work was with split enz before crowded house. He is the most talented singer songwriter Australasia has produced i think.

  • Great Tune, Almost forgot about this one. We will also be at the Nashville show on the 11th. I can't wait...

  • These guys are so unbelievably talented! They have put out so many excellent songs and I have enjoyed them all throughout the years. Can't wait to see them in Nashville on Sept. 11th!!!

  • I forgot that they had so many good songs.

  • I disagree about Better Be Home Soon- it is one of their best, a signature tune.

  • I just LOVE this song - gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. Terrible video though!!!!
