  • id be very intrested to know if there was a way for the prostetic to send a signal BACK! IE:the sense of TOUCH - which no doubt could, but wow... the coin rolling, the cracker - even being able to drink from a cup - all amazing advances in this field of medical technology O_O

  • I think this stuf is amazing give it a few hundred years or so and they will be just like human limbs this could really help out guys in Afghanistan. Good look guys :)

  • one word "sex" nothing happens until they are sexy

  • thats gotta feel weird... imagine trying to move your arm, wrist and even your fingers with Just the tiny fibers

  • looks like theres still a lot of work that needs to be done before its practical but this is still amazing

  • Some how I feel someone is gonna comment soemthing about fma -.-

  • @JackandWolf That's funny since it's already a top comment....

  • ....the question is... 10 years from now will this be considered a "prosthetic" or an "upgrade"?

  • I'd love to have a shoulder. I lost my rm two years ago, and it's imparitive to an arm to have a shoulder.

  • Soon they will really make real life automail but with muscles and skin

  • Nerve fibers and metal wires don't go well together and an open wound like automail bases itself on would create room for an open infection.

  • the prosthetics need artificial muscles

  • @7notsolucky they just need a more complex series of motors, no need for muscles just because we have them naturally

  • @HerbertHomunculus Other robots use muscles too. Like hydraulics are used in cranes. Without it, there wouldn't be enough strength for it to lift very heavy things.

  • @HerbertHomunculus "Researchers are exploring a hydrogen-peroxide pneumatic system to replace electric motors, which are bulky, slow and weak. The hydrogen peroxide reacts with an iridium catalyst to drive the arm's movements." this is from Proto 2 wiki page

  • hopefully in the future the prosthetic can not only function almost like real hand, but also aesthhetically correct, and doesnt look to robotic..keep up the good work!

  • Automail?

  • Awesome , I hope its the real deal and they can keep building on its accuracy.

  • cute girls :3

  • Shit is on. IT'S ON.

    DARPA MAKIN' ROBOTS.
