@Asovo Except for the old ones, man. Hey, I go back to the old ones. I just unlocked free mission in Ace Combat 2. I love the story, it is my favorite series. Unless you already have, try going back and unlocking everything in the old games. That's what I do to keep it fresh. AH was good for me, but a dissappointment on so many levels. I did not like how they introduced a lot of colorful swearing to try to be cooler. I liked it when the swearing was minor. LONG LIVE USEA! LONG LIVE STRANGEREAL!

While the story was admittedly sub-par when compared to older games, and the new DFM system took a lot of the skill out of the game, it was still decent to play-through. If there is one thing I'm looking for though, it's an HD remake of Ace Combat 4, 5, and Zero. Or at least the latter two. That would be epic.

@KODAKCAR4 I'd say this is a pretty decent buy. Though they have changed a lot of the aspects that got me hooked on the series to begin with. These changes include regenerating health, (the only exception being the hardest difficulty), no time limit, aircraft are unlocked by simply playing through the game, credits are instead spent on "perks" that upgrade your aircraft to increase the stats of certain things, (ex. more machine gun damage, extra armor, etc.), and other things.

From everything I've seen of this game, it has NO joystick support, which makes it fucking stupid for an aerial combat game. If there's no joystick support, it's not a true flying game. It's like being forced to drive a real car with a keyboard. It just doesn't make any sense at all.

@doraff02 No, it really does suck. I bought it used from Gamestop, played the campaign. Hated the campaign. HEY, maybe playing against others would make up for that, right? Wrong. It was a little fun at first, then it got stale as fuck when you realized all the fucking planes were moving like UFOs, DFM is homo, and the radar looks like a clusterfuck when there's more than 3 things in the same vicinity.

I just finished all missions within 7-8 hours of game play. It was good. However, dogfights are pretty much harder once you advance in every mission especially dogfighting against Illich and Markov at the very end.

after playing this i have found:

-missiles are crap, as almost 90% will miss due to the target turning a bit

-some targets you have to dogfight (they are indestructible other wise)

-some targets are indestructible unit a set point to make it more dramatic

-no super units (this new "superweapon" is just a MOAB)

-lack of massive fights (none like that level in AC6 where there is ~40 fighter)

-some enemies are just stupid (the bombers that can take about 30 missiles)

- and the plot is "meh"

The missile mechanics seem to be identical to that of the previous games - firing them in a straight line towards the enemy is always sure to hit unless he doesn't use flares. However, as you and some others pointed out, some combats are predefined so that the bosses won't die too early and to make some dramatic flights through or very close to buildings/structures when going in DFM mode. The regular combats are over relatively fast and wide up the sky, either with or without DFM.

@MB0016 lol, you must have bad lock ons, cause 90% of my non DFM missiles hit (9% of missile miss is usually special long range missiles and 1% is cause of flares), and it is way better then AC6 missile locks.

Plot was ok, ending meaning was better then any of the other in series.

Lack of massive fights, that's disputable.

No super units (duh, this is based on real world wouldn't be seen a Morgan or Nosferatu around here).

Enemy units invincible and needed to be DFMed very true.

Honestly, Im a big fan of all of them with the exception of the "xbox" release. I was very disappointed with this! I really dont want to say it, but I enjoyed HAWKs more then this one. And Ive been waiting YEARS for this! Dog fight looks cool, but it takes away alot from the game. No freedom, to scripted. No chemistry like the other guy said between teammates, and the last level.well I wont even want to speak of it. My opinion, save your money.

Firstly, Nagase is obviously an extra-dimensional entity. AH is based on the real world, geographically, and most of the previous games were based on fictitious worlds.

Secondly, the closer they bring their games to allowing the replication of true ace flying, the more interested I'll be in them. I've always loved the hero worship quality they put in the story; there are very few other games like that.

i just played the whole game today. i got it yesterday. and to be honest i was disappointing.

yeah the effects and the cool details are nice and all but it lacked a good strong story mode connection that the previously ace combats had. this one was skipping everywhere and very very short.

@shadowace421 There's no fortresses, no crazy lasers, the only hints towards the old games were: A dangerous weapon that you get to see in action a few times. In this it's called Trinity (a big bomb) and there's a level where you stay low and fly under early warning radars like in Ace Combat titles of old. Rest feels very new, dramatic and movie like.
