True enough, all in all it's a beautiful place. Not to say that I am racist in any unusual way but the high number of Asian's that have come flooding in in the last 20 years have really made the place go downhill. Back in the 70's, man it was nice!

There's an entire housing complex near where I live that is owned by some guy in Hong Kong, nobody lives in it, he's just hanging onto it til the housing prices soar so he can let it go. This is an example of the Asian investment that has helped Vancouver- it's also caused the prices of real estate to skyrocket, and everything is now directed at the business class rather than the working class. Public funds are mishandled like a drunkards pocket of change.
Scary when I think of some of the movies that have been made lately where...... Anyway that fog reminds me of poison slowly choking coastal cities and it's geeting worse, forming over lakes and rivers as people try to escape by heading for the hills. Thats how bad the first minuet of this video looks! Many years ago before 'The Day After Tomorrow" & those movies that have followed, I would never have thought like this of that fog seeping thru Downtown Vancouver.

Vancouver is a hole. The buildings are ugly, there is minimal life or activity on the streets, the liquor laws are archaic, the weather is crappy, there are homeless people everywhere, its saturated with pseudo hippyenvironmental rhetoric, and the culture consists of starbucks/sushi/luluman/pampered dogs that live better than people do. I second this. The shitty part of Vancouver, right next to Gastown, is like the twilight zone... I have never seen anything as scary as that, and I lived in Serbia throughout the 90s. You wont find sights like that in even the poorest village in the Balkans. I think I saw an actual crack whore as I rode the bus through that part of town... yuck! Does anyone know why one of the most affluent nations in the world can't or won't do anything about places like this?
I also have to Agree While i have had some good times in Vancouver in general i find the city dull and wet. People always bash Toronto for being a crime ridden city but i feel way more safe in TO than i ever did in Vancouver. If you took away the mountains it woulodnt be much too look at at all. Victoria on the other hand is one of the pretiest places i have ever been :D

As I was watching this, there's no sound available, but all the while, a song by Christopher Cross he composed about the city was going through my mind, & having never seen Vancouver before now on this video, I can see why, both the song and the city are totally beautiful. Definitely a strong desire to visit there someday in the near future, does one need a passport to go to Vancouver from the US?
Just wondering if there any special provisions I'd have to make, want my daughter to see it, too

Vancouver is a hole. The buildings are ugly, there is minimal life or activity on the streets, the liquor laws are archaic, the weather is crappy, there are homeless people everywhere, its saturated with pseudo hippyenvironmental rhetoric, and the culture consists of starbucks/sushi/luluman/pampered dogs that live better than people do. Yuck,you can have it.

I second this. The shitty part of Vancouver, right next to Gastown, is like the twilight zone... I have never seen anything as scary as that, and I lived in Serbia throughout the 90s. You wont find sights like that in even the poorest village in the Balkans. I think I saw an actual crack whore as I rode the bus through that part of town... yuck! Does anyone know why one of the most affluent nations in the world can't or won't do anything about places like this?

I also have to Agree While i have had some good times in Vancouver in general i find the city dull and wet. People always bash Toronto for being a crime ridden city but i feel way more safe in TO than i ever did in Vancouver. If you took away the mountains it woulodnt be much too look at at all. Victoria on the other hand is one of the pretiest places i have ever been :D
