Before you even said it, that reminded me a lot of the card game version of _Back to the Future_. In fact, they're so similar that I'm guessing that they're made by the same game designer and/or publisher.
I played the BttF card game just once, and it was just so-so. (And my 10-year-old son gave up on it haf-way through, despite having seen and liked the movies.) I liked the idea of the game, but the rippling of events wasn't actually very complex, so it was a simpler game than I expected.
@calandale Although very similar, they are not the same game. Back To The Future's timeline takes place in the events in the movies, while Chrononauts deals with real-world events. And yes, they are made by the same company (Looney Labs)

They are indeed by the same designer.
