@Neylus Another thing is that you see, i have a Vintage Modern as slash used all the LIVE times at velvet revolver. This amp is awsome becus you change the character by usin the (body) and (detail). So if i whant i can get AFD, if i whant i can get JCM 800 36-39# and if i whant the signature slash jcm sound. So that's awsome. But in studio slash ALWAYS use jcm 800 no mod. At stage he is usin: JCM SLASH (Dirty) , Marshall Silver Jublilee (Clean) and the Vintage Modern (Dirty 2)
@RuunoYuuTuub that's the perfect way to put it, except i would say he doesn't play just over average. he's way above average. people who are just over average fuck up every now and then. slash never messes up. i think if he was interested in shredding and put his mind to it he could be a great shredder.
@RuunoYuuTuub i'd say he's a lot more than over average, because of the mindblowing things he comes up with. Many people base Slash's abilities in comparison to Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, which is utter non-sense. Two different styles; Slash has stated that when he was coming up he didn't want to get into shred metal, that's what everyone else was doing. He was and still is attracted to melodic solos and killer riffs (he comes from the same camp as Eric Clapton, Joe Perry, Jimmy Page etc.)
To poeple who bitch about Slash's playing abilites. I have seen MANY videos on You Tube of people demoing JCM800's w #39 mods or a #36 mod. or the AFD100 itself. I even saw a video of a dude playing a AFD Les Paul through a 59 Superlead with a #36 mod which was suposedly the AFD setup. Although they sound similar to the Appeite amp for some reason it just doesn't sound right .That reason? THE PEOPLE PLAYING THE GEAR ARE NOT SLASH!! 90% of why AFD's sound was so amazing was because of SLASH
@Deltarogers The first sig Slash head was a reproduction of the 87 Jubilee. Or however it was spelled! And for what I paid for mine, I can put a few pedals on and get his tone with my lp. Now that's not saying I can play like Slash. But with two Slash guitars, I can get a GREAT tone! BUT, you don't hear of anyone else that uses the Jubilee.
@danachonda True, there is or (by the time you read this) was a Jubilee for sale on ebay for $3,500. A full stack, it look like it was in mind condition. I have scene a couple of people messing around with it on Youtube and it sounds great. Like they are playing through his amp. The tone is there.......I can only assume that a studio amplifer is more difficult to replicate than a live amp. According to Slash used SIR's #34 (Levi modded JCM800) of most of the "Use Your Ilusion" recording sessions
@Deltarogers Yea, I bought mine Brand new in 97 for 1,100$. So I can't complain. But I also use the same speakers as Slash, the Celestion Vintage 30's. So I get REAL close with his sound. And granted AFD was recorded on one that was modded. The one I have has 50watts, or 100!!
@danachonda That's awesome about your amp Slash's real AFD amp was SIR's stock #36 amp; a'59 SupLed-NT, modded by Frank Levi replicating Tim Caswell's infamous mod to SIR's #39 amp; a' 59 SupLed-T. Slash used #39 for the AFD rehearsals and wanted it for the sessons, but SIR had rented it out to DOKKEN's guitarist. So they fabbed #36 with the same mod. Slash tried to steal the amp but his roadie returned it. By "UYI" both amps were gone from SIR so Slash picked #34; A JCM800 modded by Levi.
i think his tone has evolved over time...with GNR he had a different tone....probably the small venue in this one.but its SLASH so pretty much any tone sounds gud with that guy
Nothing like a 100w.Sounds great and kinda reminds me Slash as Angus young with a little more hair...this is my opinion and thats all it is... this amp we hear in the video sounds more open and a more vowel like than the current production AFD 100.It is a prototype ..yes.I think it comes down to the old off the shelf 800 transformers and choke vs the new off the shelf parts from who knows where....I do like some of the AFD 100 clips.Great gain amp for sure.
@iplayveryloud Last thing i saw and heard is that he still uses a vintage modern on stage and he records with a jcm 800 from the early to mid eighties. but whatever....this amp sounds fcking great :D
lemme start by saying i have both slash amps ...the old and new and the new afd 100 blows the freakin doors off any marshall i've owned in 28 years of playing ! It cleans up and sound like a fender twin when turned down and turned up sounds like a modded early marshall ! i'm am thoroughly impressed with it !!
first off, for the AFD album he used a modded 50's plexi....not a JCM 800, he used that one for the UYI albums. And no, he does not use this amp live, YET. It isnt quite finished.....but it does sound awesome i think....certainly not the real AFD tone....but who cares....its an awesome tone tho....but i agree, the way they built in the parts is not that good
@KitchenMarshall i meant superlead....a modded superlead....they didnt make plexi's back then ofcourse...watch the clips about the amp, it was a superlead....not a jcm 800 like everyone thought
@NoName01071992 Actually it wasn´t a superlead for the AFD album. The amp was a used and modded Marshall 1959T, otherwise known as a Super Tremelo. Hired from S.I.R. in Los angeles. (stock #39) An amp made between omewhere between ´65 -´73, so it could have been a plexi or an early metal panel. S.I.R. lost the tremeloswitch so Tim Caswell modded the amp´s tremeolocircuit by reusing the tremolo valve as an extra gain stage. Lot´s of info on that amp on the interwebs...
@KitchenMarshall Actually your wrong. slash used #39 for rehearsals. He used #36 for the actual album which was modded after #39 but was indeed a super lead 1977 plexi modded by Frank Levi. Cheers
@MeaningXOfXFear our right. Yes, after some searching you are right! #39 was the original, (metal panel 1959T super tremelo) modded by Caswell. #36 was modded by Levi afterwards, modeled from #39 because it was so in demand. And Appetite was recorded with 36, then taken back by SIR months later. ..and now everybody is chasing unicorns.
@NoName01071992 It was a 70s metalface, model 1959T. It was modded into a JCM 800 and they added a preamp gain stage for more distortion. He used a Silver Jubilee for both of the Use Your Illusion albums. Recently he's used Vintage Moderns and his JCM 800 (aka #34) modded similarly to the #36 used on AFD. He's never used a stock JCM 800 on any album. It has been finished, people have bought some (but they're sold out right now).
and its not no jcm 800 this has 5 pre amps people thinkk aww 5 stead of 3 no it sucks the tranny to fuck its fully pcb which can break or melt with heat of valves and is not possible to fix so this so great amp u just paid 1200 for will be binned and how gulable r you cunts he used it at a sound check he doesnt use this shit live get a grip jcm 800 #36 mod will blow this away i love slash and i hate to say it but they created a peace of shit they showed of modded a jcm 800 bu not they fucked it
@cameronc20 if pcb melted all the fucking time and was such a bad construction method then why the fuck do you think everyone uses it nowadays. get over it and embrace the fact that this isnt back in the day. this is 2011 and shit is modernized.
To all of you who thinks this is just an JCM 800 well ot's not they are just using the chassis and Slash is just using the prototype version of the amp since it hadn't been mass produced at this time.
@math101a Exactly, he uses it live, theres no way he would use that shit if it sounded bad. And there's already reviews up for this amp and the AFD tone sounds way different.
I have a question: what's with the chromed girl badge on the cabinets? I like the logo but could not find it on the internet. is it custom made just for Slash??? anyone ?

@LesCrapio the jcm is what he used back in the day they will never get there with this pcb pish fucking 1300 cause it says slash on it con of the year
@guitardedboy08 :p dude, sit down two hours and listen and try to play the licks, two things might happen: You get some of the licks, or you are gonna make your own awesome ones! :)
@marcusmarkmus dude i got bored a couple weeks ago when i first watch this, and i got some of them and made a few of my own as well so it was a win win haha
@epicalice it sucks slash never uses pcb crap look inside it it look like the inside of a computer its taking guitars away from what they should be buy a jcm 800 and get the #36 done will sound as good and u wnt melt ur pcb to fuck with the heat of the valves
yeah, but I haven't heard any clean tones at all from numerous demos. Also, Slash is still using his jubilee for his clean tone on his tour and the afd00 for overdrive only.
@mikebecker330 if ya play it at home I dont think it will take that much tweakin'., in live situation you always play in different rooms .. sizes n' shapes it has huge (fuck this is going sexual :D ) effect to your sound so you always have to tweak 'em differently if ya want it to sound the same everytime
It sounds great, just as good as a modded JVM 410. It's recorded with a crappy camera, but it's enough to understand it sounds much better than a stock JCM800, imagine to play it with a good strat. The only disappointing thing is that it will have the same old annoying signature (nothing against Slash anyway).
There's no way this will sound like a stock JCM 800. Firstly it has an extra pre-amp gain stage valve and 6550s which will sound heavier than EL34's. However, bearing Slash's name on it will attract a premium. In the UK a stock JCM 800 retails for about £1,000 so I suspect this will be around £1,100 to £1,200.
To think about 3 years ago, a DSL50 retailed for less than £500 now they're £750+...how times change so quickly.
the biggest mistake marshall made in the last 25 years was trying to redesign ultra high gain fizzy JCMs instead of sticking to what worked in the past and only adding some bite and sustain
I'm glad it doesn't sound like apettite for destruction, but like GOOD hot rodded 800
sad thing is that it's probably gonna be expensive as fuck
@ericwylde I don't see the awesomeness of it sounding just like a JCM800. If you want that sound, why don't you go and buy a JCM800? I hope this isn't gonna be a standard sounding Marshall with Slash's name on it.
If you ever played a stock JCM you must know an 800 won't have this amount of sustain and saturation without some heavy boosting, especially with clean tubes like 6550's and very low output pickups like Slash's duncans
if this amp is anything like the Caswell mod, then it is exactly a 2203 with an extra gain stage, and that's the point
that's not a full redesign of the classic Marshall circuit like the JCM 2000, Vintage Modern or JVM
it's a classic master volume marshall with extra all tube gain (unlike the jubilee), and a tube buffered loop (which he doesn't even use, since his effects are straight into the input)
@anuar1978 it will probably be expensive because it's Slash's signature amp. i dont know when it'll be released. since the prototype is finished, they just have to start production, ship it, and finally sell it. i'd say in the fall this year.
definitely, DJ Ashba need one of these!

To think about 3 years ago, a DSL50 retailed for less than £500 now they're £750+...how times change so quickly.

it's the first prototype.. it'll still change..

In this video, Slash is using the second prototype actually.

Sounds like... a standard JCM800. A proper recording of this amp is needed.

@iBrows1
and that's why it's awesome
the biggest mistake marshall made in the last 25 years was trying to redesign ultra high gain fizzy JCMs instead of sticking to what worked in the past and only adding some bite and sustain
I'm glad it doesn't sound like apettite for destruction, but like GOOD hot rodded 800
sad thing is that it's probably gonna be expensive as fuck
ericwylde 1 year ago
@ericwylde I don't see the awesomeness of it sounding just like a JCM800. If you want that sound, why don't you go and buy a JCM800? I hope this isn't gonna be a standard sounding Marshall with Slash's name on it.

@iBrows1
If you ever played a stock JCM you must know an 800 won't have this amount of sustain and saturation without some heavy boosting, especially with clean tubes like 6550's and very low output pickups like Slash's duncans
if this amp is anything like the Caswell mod, then it is exactly a 2203 with an extra gain stage, and that's the point
ericwylde 1 year ago
@iBrows1
that's not a full redesign of the classic Marshall circuit like the JCM 2000, Vintage Modern or JVM
it's a classic master volume marshall with extra all tube gain (unlike the jubilee), and a tube buffered loop (which he doesn't even use, since his effects are straight into the input)

does anybody know when this amp is released ???????? and what will it cost???
anuar1978 1 year ago
@anuar1978 it will probably be expensive because it's Slash's signature amp. i dont know when it'll be released. since the prototype is finished, they just have to start production, ship it, and finally sell it. i'd say in the fall this year.
