Having just read a little about them, although well beyond ordinary, as long as they can self support their children, then i don't see the harm. Aside from the lack of time a given parent can give a child.

Why in the world would you wish homosexuality on anyone? According to Wikipedia the world population that is gay is 3%, the max 15% in places like San Francisco and W. Hollywood. Well, one possible advantage to their continued reproduction is that the more male babies they have, the higher the probability that the next one will be gay (big brother effect). A gay child will likely rip their worldview apart, hopefully on national television.
There's more to raising children than simply bringing them into the world, putting a roof over their heads and food on the table. How much one-on-one time does the mother or father have for each of the children? 24 hrs, minus 8 for sleep leaves 16 hrs of awake time. That doesn't include all the other time-consuming things that go along with it, cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, etc. And if one is an infant...kiss free-time goodbye.
I don't think they are selfish. Those kids are probably a whole lot better off than the rest of the world's kids. I agree on most of what you are saying, but the kids probably don't have a lot of the typical problems of "regular" kids like suicidal thoughts, violence, vanity to the extreme of diet failures... etc.
As an economist, I have to disgaree with the overpopulation point. Increasing populations have conincided with economic growth, historically. I agree on every other point. It so disturbing how people egg them on and how Mr. and Mrs. Dugger act so superior because they pump out kids (subsidized by TLC). If he were not white and middle class he'd be scorned if he sired a fraction of his total. Finally, lack of interaction with adults limits brain growth in children, the kids are being harmed.
If by "world" you mean the environment you are right. Although you should keep in mind that economic prosperity can also help the environment. The further people rise above subsistence, the more likely they are to care about wild life and clean air and water. Furthermore, the more economically prosperous a society is, the more resources it has to craft and implement new and better solutions to pollution, all the while continuing to allow populations and standards of living to rise.

They believe, as I do, that people should abstain from sex until they are married. The fact is, kissing isn't sex, but it could lead to the temptation to have sex. It was out of mutual respect for each other that they didn't kiss until they married. Their chances of a happy life long marraige is far greater than average.

They did the smart thing, abstaining from sex until marraige. No STDs, no single parents fighting over who get the kid... It is the safest decision. By waiting to kiss until their wedding day, they avoided the temptation to have sex before marraige. I never said showing affection or kissing outside of marraige is wrong. It is sex before marraige that I disagree with. I was very happy to go into marraige without having to worry about STDs or child support.

True, but I believe abstinence-only sex education has to go, even though abstinence is the best choice. 100% percent effective against pregnancy and STDs. You will not find a more fail-safe option. That's why I'm abstaining. Not for religious reasons (I'm agnostic), but because I do not want an unintended pregnancy, that and I personally think it would be awesome to know that I've reserved such an awesome physical pleasure for only one person. Having just read a little about them, although well beyond ordinary, as long as they can self support their children, then i don't see the harm. Aside from the lack of time a given parent can give a child.

She could have had a closeness with her family if she would have stopped at 4. I have 1 and it seems like there isn't enough time in the day to spend with her. Duggar stopped having kids after 5 and started dropping babysitters.

Why in the world would you wish homosexuality on anyone? According to Wikipedia the world population that is gay is 3%, the max 15% in places like San Francisco and W. Hollywood. Same source for those that are religious is 80%. If they DID have a gay child, they would love them unconditionally like they love their cousin Amy who doesn't believe like them. If you are gay, you know the hardships YOU had in your life, so don't wish them on someone else!

Well, one possible advantage to their continued reproduction is that the more male babies they have, the higher the probability that the next one will be gay (big brother effect). A gay child will likely rip their worldview apart, hopefully on national television.

There's more to raising children than simply bringing them into the world, putting a roof over their heads and food on the table. How much one-on-one time does the mother or father have for each of the children? 24 hrs, minus 8 for sleep leaves 16 hrs of awake time. That doesn't include all the other time-consuming things that go along with it, cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, etc. And if one is an infant...kiss free-time goodbye.

I don't think they are selfish. Those kids are probably a whole lot better off than the rest of the world's kids. I agree on most of what you are saying, but the kids probably don't have a lot of the typical problems of "regular" kids like suicidal thoughts, violence, vanity to the extreme of diet failures... etc.

As an economist, I have to disgaree with the overpopulation point. Increasing populations have conincided with economic growth, historically. I agree on every other point. It so disturbing how people egg them on and how Mr. and Mrs. Dugger act so superior because they pump out kids (subsidized by TLC). If he were not white and middle class he'd be scorned if he sired a fraction of his total. Finally, lack of interaction with adults limits brain growth in children, the kids are being harmed.

If by "world" you mean the environment you are right. Although you should keep in mind that economic prosperity can also help the environment. The further people rise above subsistence, the more likely they are to care about wild life and clean air and water. Furthermore, the more economically prosperous a society is, the more resources it has to craft and implement new and better solutions to pollution, all the while continuing to allow populations and standards of living to rise.

Actually, yes, I apparently did. Sorry. I was uneducated in the science of logical reasoning 9 months ago. Still, I don't think Laci is attempting to be "elitist" at all and we should still think about overpopulation since it may be a problem someday. The irresponsible part is solely the lack of education those children receive. It's tragic, really.
