My bike is your bikes grand daddy. I have a very custom modded '82 XT550. You couldn't tell what it is by the way it looks. I've owned over 130 bikes in the XT is by far my favorite. Dual Sports for life now. I always have a set of street tires and dirt tires around.
@dog3533 In most of motocross and enduro bikes like WRs and YZs you can change gears without clutching since this bikes have secuential gearbox. can you imagine in a motocross race using clutch?.
yamaha wr 400 f ....have key ignition?..because i found that haven't and i think that anybody can start the engine and go with them. Please answer me !!!Thanks
@styla6core Well, that kind of driving is "causing danger on the road". I got stopped by the police after a wheelie but they didn't give me a ticket, just wrote me down and let me go. Maybe because the road was clear...
@EDracing12 Both. Depends on money. I got lucky with the DR-Z and WR, both where in excellent condition. WR is as bullet proof as the DR-Z but has more power (aggresive), is lighter, eats more fuel and has better suspension. Meintanance almost the same. You need less oil on the WR but you have to change it more often. Check valves like 3 times a year and that's it. The DR-Z is more predictable. To be honest... If you have enough money - go for the WR. Amazing bikes that won't let you down!
@Januarsalg Sometimes I do 120 - 140 km/h while wheeling. I prefer starting from second gear, quickly change it to 3 and than 4 and 5. I do wheelies from 1st to 5th... Starting from 3rd as well. Cheers
Cau you write how you do these wheelies? You change gears when wheelie? And what's top speed on these WR450? I'm now on Kawasaki 250R, but whan Dual Sport for some reason... You should say your secret, how you do these wheelies :)
@namphu you don't actually need your clutch while upshifting, only downshifting. I've been riding 26 years and never use the clutch to upshit even on my sport bikes. I'm sure some ppl will tell you that you'll ruin your clutch but I've have no problems to date. However make sure your letting off the gas when you lift up to next gear and make it a real quick motion, practice doing it w/o the wheelie part first.
thanx 4 the reply, and yes, recently I m using the upshifting with no clutch sometimes to practice...but while weeling it kind of freaks me out!!!the 2nd gear torque is different from the 1st one, so anytime i shift too early the bike falls down, or if it's in the right time it goes up too fast and only the rear brake saves me from doing a 180degrees wheelie :)
@BNMURR not that i dont behlive you but if you watch the video back you do use the clutch a bit. and i know people that dont use clutch to shift up on sport bikes but just wonderd if its possible on all bikes small and big and do you have to have a race clutch or any modifications like this?.......also love your riding! iv just made the move up from mopeds to supermotos and i ride very much the same as you, fast but smooth and relaxed but without the wheelie bit :)
@Mugre300 Hi! I bought it as it is. It has Excel wheels, Talon Hubs, Front (320 mm) and rear disc brake from Braking, Magura Front Brake Master Cylinder, YZ 450 exhaust pipe, Grey wire mode done, TPS disconnected.
You owned a DR-Z? Did you like the suzuki or this yamaha better, which bike is more comfortable, has more fuel capacity and has more power, thanks a lot Kyle
@markstevo9 honestly, it's all standard clutch. Normally I use 2 fingers but when making a wheelie it's easier for me to use just one finger, the clutch is not so hard to pull. It's better for the gearbox when changing gears when wheeling using clutch. I made about 15 000 km. on my DR-Z and nothing happened to the gearbox. The WR is also as bullet proof as my Suzuki.
@koelieman My speedo is set up for 21" front wheel so it shows wrong speed. But it can easily do 160 km/h with 46 teeth on the rear sprocket (can't remember the front). You can make 180 km/h for sure with smaller sprocket on tha back or bigger on the front.
Hi, nice video. What is the maintenance like on the wr450? Looking at a first supermoto, don't really have much maintenance knowledge (chain, oil etc I can do, that is it).
@D3ADSY Hi!Well,I'm riding this bike for 5 months only but it's realy bulletproof. Oil - 1,2 L. (I add 1,4 L.) 10w40 synthetic - I use Motul 300V. Changed the oil twice, made about 3000 km. Valves needed One adjustment when I bought the bike.Last week I Checked the valves-they were ok. Get rid of grey wire, disconnect the TPS and the bike will ride like a dream. It's as reliable as DR-Z 400! DR-Z is awesome,WR the same but more aggresive.Pick a well maintained DR-Z or WR and you will love SM!
When you start wheeling, you accelerate with the 2nd gear until the front of the bike goes up and by the moment it is up why do you change immediately to 3rd gear? And why you dont use the clutch to get the front up?
I have an 05 WR450 and I am trying to learn how to do wheelies. Could you give me more advise on doing wheelies like those please? What should I do when start practicing?
When you start wheeling, you accelerate with the 2nd gear until the front of the bike goes up and by the moment it is up why do you change immediately to 3rd gear? And why you dont use the clutch to get the front up?
I have an 05 WR450 and I am trying to learn how to do wheelies. Could you give me more advise on doing wheelies like those please? What should I do when start practicing?
@LuisFilipeSa Thx all! In short. I change to 3rd because the second is to short and in 3rd gear it's easier for me to set it to proper height. Besides i don't like wheeling in high rpm. You don't need to clutch this bike up,it's got enough power. I know it's a shitty advice but theory won't teach you a lot. Practice a lot! You have to get use to the feeling, height and how to operate the gas.
When you started wheeling, did you also change to 3rd gear immediately or you started with 2nd gear only until you got the feeling and height? How did you start learning? Were you using the rear brake when started practicing?
@LuisFilipeSa To be honest i don'y use the brake. Yeah I know "always cover the brake", but for me it's not very comfortable with the foot on the brake. I'm still learning slow wheelies because now i can only make power wheelies wich sucks because the speed sometimes goes to 120-130 km/h... On the DR-Z i tried with the brake because the power was realy smooth,WR is more aggresive. Started learning wheelies from 2 gear. The breakthrough was when I was realy angry and made 30 m. wheelie :D
So you never used the rear brake, have you ever fallen on the ground or because you dont use the rear brake the rear of the bike touched the ground??
I am also trying to wheelie with 2nd gear on my WR but it is too powerful and also not used to use the rear brake which makes me a bit scared to do it.
How long did it take you to do nice wheelies? How often did you practice?
