John should have hooked up with Shirley... She was one hot piece... And she lived clean in a universe most people only reach by means of mind altering substances.
@FrlghtWolf because he loved her you might not like her but he loved her more than anyone else and if you want him you have to have all of him and that includes yoko.
Memos about firing Dick on account of his dwindling ratings resemble those that were floating about in NBC regarding Conan. The difference was that Team Cavett managed to salvage the show, but then ABC was less brain-dead than NBC.
It's funny to hear the sounds of NYC howling in the background. LOL! Most of today's low-quality talk shows hide behind lavish sets and high technology. In the end, they provide a dangerous blend of bad cheese and low-brow interests: no substance, no educational value. We need you again, Dick Cavett!
Each succeeding Cavette appearance John became more and more Yokoized. He was crazy about her and it is sad to see him disappearing into Yoko and her loving it.
Thanks for putting that comment because I knew where to skip to on the video, and also when I heard Come Together played like that I laughed out loud!

"I can't stand praise!" People who can't stand praise always manage to announce it in a big, attention-getting way, in the same manner shy people always manage to announce how shy they are.
@unfortunatebeam Like more focused around an intellectually-driven and more robust conversation, rather than these days where nine out of every ten guests just comes on and says basically nothing other than to plug the shit they're promoting. I know the universal commercialism we've "evolved" into these days sort of demands it, but it's still amazing how boring and shallow some of these modern famous people are compared to some people back in the day.
@oobah2 Cavett's show was basically the exception to that same world of "universal commercialism" (as you problematically call it, but I get what you mean). Even on Cavett's show a higher percentage of guest were there to essentially plug things, nothing much has changed that's all. But today you still have shows like Inside the Actors Studo and Charlie Rose (and I'm sure there are others I can't think of at the moment)that offer more in depth interviews and host''s actually listen. Chin up
@unfortunatebeam Yeah, but although Cavett's show was the lone exception (as you put it, I wasn't around back then so I honestly can't be sure about that), it was still likely one of the most-watched and most "mainstream" shows on TV. Could you say that "Inside the Actor's Studio" or Charlie Rose are anywhere near as promoted and as mainstream as this was? Of course they're easily findable and all, but nothing like this was. Instead the "main" shows available to the public today are Letterman,
@oobah2 No, Cavett's show was not one of the most watched shows, not even close, with certain exceptions being when he had on really good and elusive guests like Brando and Hepburn. You can check out top TV ratings for the period on Neison's website to find this out.
@unfortunatebeam Leno, etc., which aren't mindless television by any means, but compared to this I can't stand even one show of theirs, it's just 90% mindless drivel to me. Of course there's intelligent, thoughtful and relevant stuff on today; I'm just saying it's much harder to find than it used to be. The general public nowadays just generally gets brain-mush stuff like what I previously mentioned. It's very unfortunate, and is one of the many reasons I wish I could've lived through the 60's.
@oobah2 don't ever wish you lived in a previous time. it's lame, self-defeating, and gets you nowhere. If you desire change that badly, your first step is to get off your butt and at least try something instead of pathetically moping about how you wished you lived in a previous time. Every time has it's up and downs, and then it was no different (actually there were many downs with living in the 60s). Chin up.
@unfortunatebeam people have always wished they could live in a previous time and this should be forgiven, but we all wish we can live in a future time and this we can do something about.get busy people

Ugh! Why must we continue to endure Yoko Ono in order
to have John? Forrest Gump had a wonderful scene where
Gump appeared on the Dick Cavett show sitting next to
John Lennon. It was a the REAL show on video excet that
THEY HAD COMPLETELY EDITED YOKO OUT OF THE SCENE! A wonderful idea! Couldn't we do that with ALL
John's videos?
