Well I think this Idea can go a long way. I would like to think that holding that huge projector is just a pain in the ass and that multiple projectors and motion sensors would be more logical. The movie gamer or Minority Report has a example of what I am talking about. Over all a great idea and demo.
this would actually work well in a game like quake/halo. The "w a s d and spacebar" for moving forward, back, and jumping, could be attached to your hip. Then you just aim around the room with the projector as you would a mouse. Would help me get some excercise too.
I was going to say there's better ways of transporting info until I saw the marking of bad PC's; cool. However, it would make more sense to use some sort of eye based camera to semi see-through OLED glasses, or monocle and then the user's input is based on a pen that can be used to interact with stuff. And the best part is, there could be interaction channels, so if you were a tourist, you'd join the 411 channel and buildings would be displayed with information on them different than IRL.
see most like this but it seems far to impractical, but a ,lets say for example, a pair of sunglasses would work better because it would allow you to be private but you could invite someone to see your "desktop" or even place a public statement or image somewhere. example: wendy and john wedding in room 200 follow green arrows.
I always though augmented reality was more interesting then virtual. If you could wear glasses that allowed you to open windows in your real world environment in a networked system so that co-workers could see the same windows in the same position as if it was real. Imagine a wall sized excel spreadsheet that multiple people could access.
This is the beginning of infant phase of startrek holographic projection technology. I could imagine in the next 25 yrs will become the reality if funding allow.
pUT THIS together with John Lee's wii (look it up) and we got the next generation gaming system that blows it all out of the water. combined with the projector phone, and it's portable. whoot.
that's true :P but it'd be a little shakey and you'd have to re-do the way you look around so instead of moving the game world it stays in one place (north south east west) and you look around the room and stuff, it could work but nobody would bother without the best comp in the world xD (crysis is very demanding at 60 degrees field of view, let alone 360 degrees at once xD)
OMGWTF! please let this be brought out by anyone other than microsoft.. they already stole multitouch displays. I would gladly win the lottery just to hand over most of it for this.
The killer for secret services, special forces and magicians. Useless otherwise. That is because you trade in the overview for discovery. The localisation in space can be recycled, though, and put to ordinary use. With eye- or head-tracking walls, or portions thereof, can be made to serve as virtual desktops revealing themselves only when being looked at.
You know, this actually has a lot of applications, although at first it seems kind of useless...you could communicate with your neighbor visually, for example..you could use less paper for reminders...anyway, what would be even kooler is if there was an optical application, such as a pair of sunglasses or maybe even nanotech contact lenses which could act as receviers from a remote hard drive and could display information in front of your eyes??? idk...theres sooo many uses, dont doubt it.
this video is behind the times. check out the company microvision ... handheld laser projectors on our cell phones will be arriving in the near future! ftw
Perhaps I should have made myself more clear. I guess it's the internet, so I have to expect 75% of people won't understand. Who cares about the acting? It's completely irrelevant to the subject matter. Of all the things you could have had the impulse to mention, you chose acting (and only acting). To me, that is silly.
Imagine if it were mounted onto your glasses as a DLP projector (like the pico projector project) and the staging camera were mounted in the ceiling so that the whole room were at play.
use two levels of details. one coarse/low resolution, wide beam projector. one narrow beam high resolution one. attach on your head. and you have a virtually immersive display.
Imagine, every handheld device with a projector, internet and GPS can define virtual screens on public places so that everyone can interact with each other by tagging items or surfaces in the real world (like leaving messages or Grafitti) . This is going to be the major thing in the next 10 years or so.
That is way cool... I wish they spent more time in undergrad on cool stuff like this... Turing machines and FSAs are not that cool any more... Does it come in blue?
I don't like the handheld projector, but small, fast motion tracking like this would be perfect for augmented-reality. Put them in a pair of goggles and put a few reference points in the environment, and you'd be able to project data layers over the wearer's visual field. Straight out of SF--Vinge's "Rainbows End", Gibson's "Spook Country", Stross's "Halting State", etc.
I think this idea would be better implemented with a small stable projector that projects the entire scene, and with some kind of remote/pen duo that would allow you to interact with the projected images. This is really a cool idea. However a handheld projection device seem rather limited.
A better and improved solution is to mount the projector on the helmet or a visor that will project the image in front of the user.
This way the user have two free hand to interact with the interface and more natural.

with visor based augmented-reality only you can see it, but with this projector based version EVERYONE can see it.
So this makes it a lot more useful.
