It's amazing... But eyes are not the primary sensor for dogs. Dogs have smell and hearing in the way to rely firstly... Hence, that is no such unhappy situation I think :)

Wow Riddle is amazing! My border collie mix just went blind over the weekend (she's taking it waaaaay better than I am) from we think diabetes, the vet test should be back tomorrow. This made me smile for the first time in a couple days and have more hope for my little Sydney girl.

It's most likely that his sense of smell and vibrations have hightened due to loss of sight. That may be why that dog can catch great. Anyway, that dog is very great! He may not be as blind as you might think. Sure he can't see but most mammals are capable of sensing objects using their whiskers. By sensing subtle changes in air flow they are able to gain a rough idea of what their environment is even when it is dark or in this case missing eyes.
