  • One of the better responses to this article

  • @readwriteread thanks!

  • BTW, I scanned the article (I haven't read all these books and don't want them spoiled) and recognized the journalist's name. Katie Roiphe's biggest claim to fame is a book called THE MORNING AFTER that many felt blamed victims of date rape for their assault. So it makes total sense that she would trivialize the plot of SPEAK in the way she did.

  • @blaktina Hi, thank you for commenting and sharing your thoughts on the subject. The fact that she wrote that book really puts into perspective what her influences probably were in writing this. It just bothers me when people underestimate a person on their ability to feel certain emotions based on their age, which is what I felt this article did. Thank you again for your insight!

  • I haven't read the Wall Street Journal article (sounds like it's gonna piss me off when I do), but I very much appreciated your insight and enjoyed the way you shared it in this video. At once, concise, insightful and entertaining. And thew ay you described SPEAK was on point -- far more sophisticated understanding of that novel than the journalist obviously had. I'm going to share your video with other YA authors and editors I know. :-)
