I'm only hearing about this recently (2011) and I think it's a tragic story, but why did she go out there alone?? why didn't her friends go with her?? I'm a girl and I never go out alone, if anything I at least take my dog. I am sad and upset that this happened to her even though I don't even know her, I just wish I could of been there to save her, or at least someone could of been there with her.. never photograph alone!! take your boyfriend, take your friend, or take your dog! or take a gun!

For the poster of this video, thank you. Her killer was found guilty of murder in the first degree. That doesn't bring her back or explain how a life so full of light and promise could get snuffed out so suddenly and senselessly. I didn't get to see pictures of her life, only of her death. She was a beautiful spirit. I hope the intervening years have helped you get past the loss of your friend.

I go to UNCC, this disgusts me. I cannot beleive that there are people so shitty that they just pick up some innocent girl and do such things.. There are so many robberies an cases such as this. I feel there are many predators around our college campuses.... If us college students would be allowed to carry pistols on campus instead of just the bad guys maybe we could smoke a few hood rats and they would think twice about preying on the subceptible college student.

This is such a touching video. I knew Ira very well from school, we had russian classes together and would always help me with my russian and always encouraging me to speak it. i will miss her so so much. thanks for all the wonderful memories Ira :-)

She seemed very sweet. I live in the Charlotte area and saw the first broadcast about Ira. I remember thinking maybe she had wrecked her car. So sickening that someone murdered her. I hope and pray that they find whoever did this to this sweet, pretty girl. I didn't know her, but her story has left such an impact on me. I think of her and her family everyday. I knew Ira when she was about 7-8. We were in the same school and were friendly with one another. I remember going to her house a few times and having fun eating Russian food with her and walking around her neighborhood and watching movies. She was a very sweet, friendly, caring, beautiful, polite and a pleasure to be around.

I met Ira after hitching around AK for a while and she help me land a job at the village in Denali. Everyone at the lodge loved her, and with good reason. From what I knew of her, she was an amazing person. She was one of the few that showed this lonely hitch hiker friendship, and it means a great deal to me. To Ira's friends and family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. The world seems a larger and less friendly place without Ira in it.
