With all the great songs on their debut, each one a gem -- gems that I listen to a lot -- I still find that I listen to "Blue Sky" the most. It's perfectly short and doesn't overstay its welcome. Anyone who's felt rejected and/or lonely can find feel the sentiment in this song. I can readily see the lyric's imagery in my minds. A truly underrecognized gem.

love the album not a bad song on it ............45 now but in my 20s when first heard this song feels like yesterday I know that sounds corny but thats the truth when u c the xfactor and compare some of the 80s bands to todays offerings like night and day

There were few albums that had every single song a GREAT song. This, was one of them. The only other one's I can remember from the same time frame, where "every single song" was awesome is Duran Duran: Arena, and , uhmm, well wait, that's about it..... ;)

So funny: a-ha declared that the first version of Blue Sky contained the verse "I'm dying for a cigarette in the coffee shop" instead of "I'm trying to be different in the coffee shop", but changed for "health" reasons! :))

@pselodux The cool thing about A-HA, is that, they're one of the few bands in the history of music, that nobody has anything bad to say about them...their music just takes you to that "special place", I don't know where that "place" is, but it is truly special...

My favourite on this album. I learnt the lyrics by ear when I was 14 and did not speak a word of English yet. Later found out that it wasn't that bad ! Heard it live for the first time on the last ever a-ha concert I attended - Royal Albert Hall 08.10.2010 Morten messed up the lyrics as usual, which made it even better! :-)

@artemis219 I share your sentiments...I was seven years old back in 1985, and it was truly a nostalgic and peaceful, time to be a child, unlike the chaos and confusion that is plaguing the world today...nowadays, children simply don't have what was once called, a "childhood", because they're constantly being fed negativity via the movies, music, television, mainly the local and national news...children are supposed to have a childhood...and the media doesn't give a shit about that simple fact...

@parmavioletsyum watched both these bands (i.e. duran duran and a-ha) in concert within the last year. A-ha's performance was like nothing I have attended in a while - especially the performance of "bandstand". I must have been one of the youngest people in audience. Well, the friend that joined me was three years younger. I doubt there was anyone younger to her in the audience. Duran Duran and a-ha actually got better after the 80s - sadly, the media will always tie them to the 80s.

Can someone help me with the story behind this song? I was told it was written about a place called Blue Sky Cafe in West End London. When I was there back in '89, I snapped a photo of what I thought was this song's namesake. The photo turned out bad (bad flash, gloomy evening). Now when I try to look up this place online over 20 years later, I find nothing. Does anyone know anything about this place, or if it has anything to do with this song?
