Hi Likiwiguy, since the aperture ring has to be fixed, am I right to say lens with aperture adjustment is only for film and much older DSLR. The FEE error remains even in manual mode. Anyway like the categorization of the videos done.
Top end digital SLR's can accept manual focus lenses with a built-in aperture ring and meter using built-in AI ring (for meter coupling). Many other digital SLR's do not support this feature. So, yes, it will work on any film SLR's as well. Correct, FEE error appears in any mode (M-A-S-P, Vari-Program, and Auto).
I have the 80-400 and it works fine in my D300 , but gives me an error FEE when I use it on my D700 ... I have used my friend's 80-400 on my D700 and same thing happened ... But all my other lenses work fine on my D700 !!!!!
if they RTFM isnt there a troubleshooting section in the back with error codes? I'm just glad your channel is on here because I'd probably put my lens covers in the dishwasher if I didnt see your videos first
Never had that happen to me but if I do , Oh yes I'll look reeeal cool and knowledgeable, I could even utter the words "elementary my dear watson" ( Sherlock Holmes)
I read my FM but didnt stumble across anything explaining anything like that, I'll RTFM again just to see if its there.
Thanks! I actually had this error come up on a photo shoot and could not get anyone in my group to help me. So I swapped the lens and continued shooting, but later I found out how to fix it. So simple.
Basically. You're setting an aperture in camera, but then you have the aperture on the lens already set. What the camera wants you to do is set your lens aperture to its maximum so that the camera can adjust it down when you set your in camera aperture. :D confusing yet simple ;-)
Uh huh, yeah, all lenses have to be closed down to the minimum aperture (F/22, F/32, F/64, etc.) because the camera's job is to lift the aperture lever on the lens to open the aperture diaphragm to any selected aperture set on the camera.
i've had an "err" message on the top screen of my d80 from time to time, i just turn off the camera and turn it back on and it worked well .. should i be worried ?
"Err" stands for camera malfunction, which means there is an error while operating the camera. Master reset the camera back to its factory defaults, clean the contacts on the camera mount (and on the lenses), format the memory card in-camera (not by the computer), remove the battery for 5 minutes then put back in, then shoot a test image to see if "Err" isn't displayed on the LCD.
If it is being displayed on the LCD, I'm afraid you would have to send the camera in for service.
worked for me thanks

Try cleaning the contacts on the lens and camera. There are tutorials on both on our channel.

Not necessary because the FM is a full manual film SLR, which requires the user to control the aperture on the lens, not on the body.
This video is for digital SLR's, where everybody have to read the (bleep)ing manual.

Thanks Lilkiwi for your help. Lens is up and running. And rollopa, If I had TFM I would have RTFM.

You can download TFM. DTFM.

thanks for the short video... I enjoyed it only because I got that error and panicked the other day and after 10mins. I figured it out. :)

Isn't this just a classic RTFM situation ?
Or is it for people who don't RTFM ?
rollopa 2 years ago
Well, yeah, 2% of people actually read their user's manual and the rest not.

I had this happen on a shoot and I panicked before I figured it out. Thanks for the video. Your info is always great. :-)
