  • Hi i'm not sure if this is the right person, so forgive me if im wrong. Anyways if this is the right person, I see your selling these on ebay and I was wondering if you were from bristol or hong kong as the ebay is telling me both. Im also interested in buying

  • @2bherealone Hi mate, I don't sell anything! I just reviewed it. I bought mine a long while ago from the GameDepot but I'm not sure if they still sell them? I would just read the reviews carefully on e bay and lok at the feedback.

  • Whats your new way of fitting to helmet as im struggling to find a way, i dont want to resort to the alliminum but i will.....

  • @grantnunn I made a small plastic bracket that fit inthe chinguard of my helmet. I thinkit safer than using metal.

  • like so

  • i have a problem, i cant see the videos ! i have all codecs butt nothingg help! onlyy sayss cannot open filee

  • @jcexy I can't imagine why they are just avi format. Try downloading VLC media player. It's free and plays everything!

  • i just bought one of these along with the recommended 4gb card you suggested and im currently waiting for it to arrive, i hope its as good as you say it is as i am going to do a few bike vids of parts of Ireland round where i live.

  • @excriminal1 Hard to beat for the money! Should do the job for you. Assuming the quality is still the same as a year ago.

  • cx500 sweeet

  • @FILMMAKERCHAP I love it. It's my baby!

  • I have problem whith terrible background sound :(

  • @wrestlingbeef I don't know what to suggest? I think the mike has agc (automatic gain control) so the sopund might be hissy if there's no loud noise?

  • I have found the best way to mount this camera inside a helmet is with a blob of blue-tack in the middle of the visor and in front of your nose.

  • @alanhodes I like it. Good idea!

  • My MD 80 works for 30 seconds and then it shuts down. I have tried a 4 GB, 8GB and 16 GB and i does the same thing. Can anyone help me and tell me what I can do? Thanks and God Bless.

  • @frankiepr22 Assuming you have given it a full one hour charge, I guess yours might have a defective battery, or the charge regulating circuit isn't working properly so it isn't getting a proper charge. I have heard of similar problem with the HD key chain camera and they were returned to the supplier for replacement. Does it record continuously with external power. The RC Groups The REAL (#11) HD Key Cam Thread (Google and you'll find it) has some stuff on battery problems.. Best of luck.

  • Mine just came mail but didn't come with a disk...lame.

  • @iluvtacos82 You only need the disc if you want to use it as a web cam, which isn't much good as there's no audio? If you really want the video pc driver you can find it on Chuck Lohrs 808 key chain web site.

  • @iluvtacos82 Just google and you can find the driver. SPCA1528

  • how do u know when its fully charged, and how do you change the date and time :D

  • @509g1 Charge for about an hour. If you go back through the comments I describe the method for changing date/time about a year back. Or Google Chuck Lohr's 808 web site. The date change method is shown there too. I flashed some different software on mine and took it off completley but it's a risky process cos it can kill the camera.

  • @bobflyman will chuck lohr's be a safer way

  • @509g1 Yes. It's just a question of making a small text file in notepad in a certain format. Copying it to the card in a card reader (not while plugged into via the usb lead) putting the card back in the camera and recording a few seconds of video . The cam picks up the date file and puts the time date on the chip. The file format is on Chucks site. There might even be a YouTube video showing how to do it somewhere?

  • @bobflyman thank u so much :D, if i struggle to find how to do the text file can u try finding me a vid on youtube

  • @bobflyman found a new way. very easy, plud the device in change the date time on the tag file it works :D

  • @509g1 Cool!

  • just made the video for u showing u what i meant, and how i need help ptting it on my rc helicopter lol

  • @509g1 Sounds alright to me matey. I've got a couple of 808 key chain cams sd and hd and the lenses are often slightly off centre. They just glue them in position with a dab of glue. If itrecords well I wouldn't worry!

  • @bobflyman here u go lol :D watch?v=hBIRNF12uHg chek that, its the vid i just made

  • I checked out your vid mate. lense does look a bit off but it's no big deal really. You can take the cam apart but it's tricky. I'd leave it like it is.

I have two helis, one 14 inch and one 12 inch across the blades. The 14inch takes the weight easily, the 12 inch will fly with a key chain cam, but you can see it feels the weight. I think smaller than that will have a problem. You only need disc if you want to use as a web cam. if you plug the cam in to your pc the pc just reads the card.

  • is ur lens right dead centre in the middle, mine was sent to me from ebay and delivered, my lens is near the top slightly, is that meant to be like that or not :/

  • @509g1 I'm not quite sure what you mean mate? Do you mean it's not in the middle of the small hole in the plastic case? Does it record ok?

  • @bobflyman yep thats exactly what i mean my friend, yep the small lens is a slight bit to the top, but it records very well and clear, i will make a youtube vid showing u what i mean

  • Really nice video, man, I´m thinking about purchasing this one.

I ride on two wheels too and well.... i only think you should consider the risks of getting yourself seriously injured by this piece of metal inside your helmet... the idea is good, it seems to fit very well so i´m not going to screw up with your video but wouldn't be safer to use some kind of plastic or tape instead of metal?

At least, try to round the edges with a sandpaper or something...

    Take care, dude!

  • @samandhisati Hi mate, thanks for your comments and observations about the bracket I used in the video. I agree it wasn't the best method and I quickly changed to a small bracket made from pvc plastic! Don't know if you've seen my other vids madse with the new HD mini cam? They cost a bit more, say £25, but are a great leap in quality. I paraglide and mount the cam on a small plastic bracket on my chin guard. Check em out! The xc vids are best.

  • nice

  • deep breaths lol

  • I have one and it stopped working, i need help.

When I turn on the camera the ight turns red and it stays red and when i try and turn it off it won't let me, I have to reset it over and over again and it doesn't let me record either when its in the red light, do you know how to fix it?

  • @TheBlueGuy1000 I can only suggest trying a different card? Haven't any problems with mine. Does it work as a web cam when plugged into the pc. Does the pc still see it as an external drive?

  • @bobflyman I will try and change another card, nope it doesnt even let try it as a webcam even when it was working. When i plug it in with the camera it doesnt load or anything. The red light just shows up and i have to reset it to turn it off, and when i tke out the card and put it into a card adaptor it reads it but it doesnt show any files.

  • @TheBlueGuy1000 Sounds like it's f.cked maybe. I guess the only other thing to do would be open it up, desolder the battery, to completely reset it, and then reconnect it? If you can't I guess it's time to get another. Have you tried the type #11 HD key chain cam. Brilliant results from those though more like £25 to buy. Check out RC groups HD cam thread for REAL HD cam suppliers, there are a lot on e bay that claim to be HD but are not.

  • those "flat prongs" are what we use in north america. Hong kong is a different plug

  • Neat, you mounted yours in your helmet somewhat like I did. I sewed in a cage made of black elastic!

The difference is that you were thinking like a guy and I was thinking like a girl (girl here). Nice vid!

  • @karr1213 @karr1213 Nothing wrong with black elastic! As long as it did the job, possibly safer than my bracket clipped by my face?

  • how do you tell what class it is?

  • what memory card were you using. just a normal micro sd or a sd hc? mine seems to have more lag and choppy movement to it,

  • @1996yellow . I think it's best to use class 4 or better. I use class 4.

  • how long does it take to recharge? my cam seems to turn off after about 2min and them flashes red. weird. anyone?

  • @truthseek99 Usually about an hour. The lights can do weird things though? Just plug it in and leave it for an hour. Will it give you 50 mins recording time?

  • @truthseek99 thx, i actually did a full recharge and noticed the charge (blinking) mode stopped. i will do a test today and run a full record to see if it works correctly. thx

  • They work pretty much the same, but what you have is not the MD80, it's the 0001 clone/fake. The real MD80 is made of metal not plastic and comes packaged with an SD card, different style (and better quality) brackets and a soft travel pouch. The fake version has become popular because when used as an action cam on say model aircraft, or here on your bike, they are cheaper to replace if damaged. Just be careful with the brackets, as they tend to snap.

  • @GaryXJ6 Thanks for the comments. I have seen the alloy body MD80, nice piece of kit, but 4 or 5 times the price too.

  • bit deadly putting metal near your eye/face when riding. Ride safe

  • @AZZ3R1 I agree mate. I use a different way of camera mounting now!

  • @bobflyman I just noticed, I already made a note on the video saying I mount a safer way now too!

  • @AZZ3R1 clip on your jacket

  • just boguth one, im going to put his on my 5th scale rc car, if it breaks it dosent really matter, it cost me £13 and £7.67 for an 8gb memory card. Its a good quality picture for the price!!

  • @jimmymagnum07 nice! have fun.

  • Can this take pictures?

  • @iRwaaar Does not take still photos as sold. I have now successfully loaded the 808 time stamp removal software and it now will take stills. They are not very good though!

  • @bobflyman What do you click to take pictures? btw how much did you buy this for and where!?!

  • @iRwaaar NO stills with this camera. You can with the 808 key chain cam.

  • @bobflyman Are there any other kinds that can take pictures that are mini

  • @iRwaaar yes the 808 key chain cam, like I said! But not very good quality.

  • @bobflyman No I meant are there any other ones aside form the 808 key chain!

  • @iRwaaar Not that I know of.

  • heey mate does this use micro sd cards ?? the same cars that fit in nokias 5800??

  • @lukeandjoshua Micro cards? Yup! Class 4 or better for best results.

  • @bobflyman thanks just bort it =)

  • lol, the charger is for american plugs

  • I got an MD80 of f of a hobby site and it arrived without the CD, I've been trying to find the driver to use it as a webcam but nothing i find on the internet works. Do you know where I can download it from. I would greatly appreciate it please.

  • @jackthespratt . The web cam driver is SPCA1528_V2220_MultiLan_090217.exe ...2.85 mb's. If you Google you should be able to find a source. There's no sound when used as a web cam, so it's not very useful for that purpose! Or Google 'Chuck Lohr's 808 web site'. There's a link on it to a driver download in the Drivers section near the top of the page.

  • good video, i found this as my instructions were in really bad pidgin english thanks for the upload

  • @pumpkinzer0 . No worries mate. Have fun!

  • @Paddyo11 It was probably over a year ago, so the quality may have changed. You Tube comes up with an error when I try and post the link, but search gamedepot4u 'mini dv cameras' in the menu

  • @bobflyman gamedepot4u are based in China.

  • could you post a link where you bought this camera, because there are so many different types that look the same and the quality of yours looks the best out of any other ones on youtube.

  • Fuck. ignore my last comment. Just noticed that you can't get rid of it (hadn't watched that far into the video)

  • @Vault101Reject No worries mate. There are ways to blur it, and some people have come up with very complicated ways to do it by removing the flash memory and reprogramming. Not something for the average person to do. The only easy way to remove it is to crop the frame when editing but you will lose quality.

  • Is it possible to remove the timestamp at all?

I am going to be doing a first person horror movie and the best way to get it to look like you're not holding the camera up to your face is to literally tie/tape the camera to your head with a strap or something simillar, and if you can get rid of the timestamp, this would be ideal.

  • Do you have to have the sd card for it to do anything...I can not get mine to do anything at all.

  • @Thenewjames . Yes for sure, it won't do anything unless a micro card is in the slot!

  • @latinflavor081 . Maybe so, but the original camera with the aluminium body was £50, say $70?

  • How do you change date? Mine is showing 01/01/2008

  • @ccchackalll to set date time, create a file in notepad called tag.txt in this format

    [date]

    2009/12/29

    16:58:00

copy the file to a blank card in a card reader (with correct date etc.) insert in camera and shoot a few seconds of video. Camera will pick up the time you put and from then update in future

  • @bobflyman wow, you were right! Thank you! How did you know that?

  • how long can the battery last?

do you think a 8G micro sd is too big?

  • @LigerZero1985 Battery is good for about an hour and a 4 gig card will record about 50 mins of video. I'd say there is little point in using an 8 gig. Use class 4 micro card, or better, for best results.

  • thanks for uploading! :)

  • you can get rid of the stamp by deleting a file for it in the dcim file when you plug cam into pc

  • @doubletapm4 . Not true!

  • @bobflyman ohhhhh but it is!!! look it up!

  • @doubletapm4 I've read loads of stuff on Chuck Lohrs web site about the 808 (which is similar) and nobody as yet has found a simple way of removing the date time stamp. The methods all involve downloading files from the flash memory, changing stuff and then reloading. Quite risky as it's easy to kill the camera. If you have found an easy way of doing it please please please can you post further details?

  • can you disable the time/date stamp in the recording??

  • @pumpkinzer0 Some people have had success with the 808 mini dv, but it's complicated. I just blur it with Virtual Dub and Logoaway.

  • Hey - your driving the wrong way down the road !!!!

Sorry - just a wee bit of American Humor there old chap.

  • @sbs9026 Yea man, there aren't many of us left now. Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong?

  • @bobflyman Not to forget the big one...Japan...I guess if Japan ever changed to the other side then we'd all have to

  • The flat pins are us (and maybe hongkong)

  • Are you using a class 4 or class 6 memory card ?

  • @vent25kn I use good brand of class 4

  • I've one of these and the videos it creates are huge. What did you do to it prior to uploading to youtube to reduce the size? I tried with mine and it looked like ass...

  • @landwomble Use Xvid Mpeg 4 codec in Virtual Dub. Free software. Details on Chuck Lohrs 808 web site.

  • Thanks for putting this online. I was wondering if there was a way to remove the date/time stamp completely from the video. Do you have a script for that?

  • @SummerInstituteofBuf . I don't but check out Chuck Lohrs 808 key chain web site. (Google it.) Someone has hacked the code for the 808 time line, the MD80 may be similar.

  • good picture tho

  • how i can delete the date and time from the video?

  • @Giudamj you can't remove it. But can blur it using Virtual dub and logoaway. Google and you'll find tthat free software.

  • hello sir. can you give the name of your seller, as the web page. because its a bit difficult to find some good chinese seller.

    best regards!

  • @sntsrui bought mine from the Gamedepot.

  • Hey fella, I have the same camera, and instead of the metal bracket, I have velcro stuck to the padding at the side of my eyes, built up slightly on one side for angle.

Then velcro stuck to the back of the camera. Makes it really easy to put in/take out and fairly safe too.

Do your videos get split into 5 minute chunks? - mine does and it's rather annoying!

  • @BJMoorhouse . Hi Mate, that sounds like a good idea, safer than my metal bracket too. My camera saves the file, I think at 30 mins. I say I think because I have a few of these plus some 808 key chain cams. Do you use class 4 cards?

  • @bobflyman Yeah :-\ maybe I need to change the formatting of the card or something.

  • You can buy this cam only for $11.46(with freeship) at buyincoins(dot)com and get 15% off using coupon code "10%off2010" and recommender "negoni"

  • hi, does this cam have high speed recording? thanks!

  • @Moey2007 For £12, are you having a laugh!

  • @bobflyman according to 7dayshop website, it does... i thought they were having a laugh... obviously, they are..

  • @Moey2007 I see some sites saying they record HD as well. I'd like to see that for £12 too!

  • i bought one very similar to that. did not come with a software disc. no mains charger. very poor instruction manual. ive had it for two days and only managed to get one video from it that over 25ish seconds long. should i charge it all night? do they suffer with sd slots breaking on them? im not gunna get too worked up it was cheap as, but would be good if it would just work!!!

  • @gravey07 some of the cheaper ones don't come with the software or extra mounts. The software is only a web cam drive anyway. Never had a prob with the micro sd slot, but it's a small gadget so treat it gently! Charge for about an hour, should be ok unless you got a duff one!

  • How long do you charge your MD80 for

  • @JJFP1 about an hour. Overcharging will likely damage the battery or make it swell up.

  • I bought one of these, and I heard they drop frames. Around 9:10 you start to ride behind a bus. Does the number flicker to the naked eye or is that the camera dropping frames?

  • @josue285 . I think that is an effect caused by the fact that the bus number display flashes unseen to the human , but at times it's not in synch with with camera frames. I haven't noticed many dropped frames with this particular camera.

  • Terrible camera and HK's service is equally terrible.

1.Can't tell what mode its in and lights are impossible to interpret.

2.MMC will stick inside or sometimes refuse to stay in

3.Will freeze constantly like this (this camera is broken BTW)

    4.Has an unchangeable time/date stamp

5.CCD camera comes loose inside housing

6.Won't work as a webcam as advertised

    7. MMC must use FAT format

    8. Sound trigger works but shuts off immediately making it a useless feature

Save money, forget about this one!

  • @catamaranman333 Sounds like you got a bad one? I think the earlier mnufactured ones may have been better, though it's the luck of the draw. There's a company seeling on Amazon that tests before they sell. They charge a couple of quid more though. Send it back.

  • my one doesn't want to record for longer than about half hour on a full charge :/

  • @TheRedline65 I believe it takes a few charges for the lipo to reach capacity.

  • @bobflyman Ok then, i will charge it up a few more times before i start complaining to the vendor haha

  • @TheRedline65 charge and discharge a few times. Give it a few cycles, it usually helps lipos get to capacity?

  • I bought 2 of these, totally useless. After an hour of use both the blue and red light turned on and the camera stopped working. Both lights are on and I can't turn it off until it runs out of power. Nothing happens when i try to reset the dam things. They just go back to both lights on and nothing happening.

Cheap but total waste of money

  • Hi Bobflyman i hv the same spy cam as u , i just cant work it, i cant switch it off either, wen i press the top button i can c a red light inside, it does not flash or anythingsoi dont know whether it is recording, i hv lost the instruction manual and the CD that came with it cud u help me and how do i download it to the laptop? please help me many thanks

  • NICE BIKE DUDE

  • @marineTObe14 thanks dude, I like it!

  • to set date time, create a file in notepad called tag.txt in this format

    2009/12/29

    16:58:00

copy the file to a blank card in a card reader (with correct date etc.) insert in camera and shoot a few seconds of video. Camera will pick up the time you put and from then update in future

  • @bobflyman I have followed your steps to set date and time, but the camera still showed the default date of 12/31/2000 12:00Am, Please help

This is what I type in 2010/07/24 22:10:00 and save it as tag.txt

  • how do you change the time and date?

    16:58:00

copy the file to a blank card in a card reader (with correct date etc.) insert in camera and shoot a few seconds of video. Camera will pick up the time you put and ten update in future

  • i openend it up, one of the batterie wires was loose...it works now :)

time to put it on My Bandit.

  • Recieved mine today.

It does not work, only a red light that keeps burning :-(

  • @8976010 Have you tried a reset? Just push a pin in the reset hole on the side.

If not, send it back, I had one faulty one myself!

  • can you give me the link of the ebay seller pleas

  • As you only get around 50 mins from a charge, about 4 gb worth, I reckon it's not worth putting in bigger?

  • I just got my Mini DV MD80, but I am confused by the incomprehensible instructions. The rear of the box reads "2G with Mini SD memory card, maximum support expansion cards 8G". In the manual 'operation guide section 3 part (b) it reads "The maximum capacity of T-Flash card is 16GB. So, my question is, "What is the maximum GB mini SD memory card I can use?" Anyone?

  • @tyvid

    16GB is max

  • PLEASE help. I have one of these cameras and an imac. I think the camera is great,I've copied all the files from the micro sd card over to get all the footage then formatted the card via my mac, since then returning the micro sd card to the camera it freezes with the blue and red led on constantly and have to reset the camera. I wish i only deleted the files and not formatted the card now as i cant get it to work again??? HELP!!

  • @PracticalGuitar I have the same problem, but mine has done it since i bought it.

  • how do I edit or delete the date and the time in my MD80?

  • I own CX500 79 in original condition...as new ;)

  • @oMusikMachtFrei . Nice!

  • yeah, thats definatley a USA wall plug. Im from there lol. and I have lived in hong kong.

  • have you got a link to buy this from where you got it?

  • Thanks matey, yes that's my lovely baby, some people love em, some people hate em. 1978 bike. It was originally black , but paintwork wasn't all that good so reluctantly I had it sprayed red. My mate says the fairing I have on it is the ugliest he's ever seen!

  • Oh man I watch ur vid cos of review of this small camera... But u own HONDA CX 500?!?! Great man! Is it 79?

  • good review Bob, I am going to buy one on the strength of your vid!! :)

  • nice vid makes me want to get a motorcycle!

  • I have seen others without the date stamp

  • Jim , it sounds like you may have a fake micro card. My camera will record a straight 53 mins before stopping. Check out Chuck Lohrs web site for a link to fake flash sellers. My key fob cameras record in 30 min segements till full too.

  • hi bob great vid very helpful

Ive just had mine come and a few niggly probs

It only records 1min 59secs at a time but keeps recording, does your cut them or record continuously

When i connect it to my pc i get dr watson debugger virus flash up and i cant cop paste videos ?

i can get round this every few attempts

    thanks

  • Hi Mate, To download just plug the camera into a usb socket . The pc will see the device as external storage. Once plugged in go to Windows Explorer, or My Computer and look down the list of drives and you should see another drive letter there. Click on the drive and you see a folder, in the folder are the film clips. Right click 'copy', then go to your desktop and right click 'paste'. Or put the files in my pictures, or somewhere. Afterwards go back and delete the videos from the micro card.

  • great BOB will you do a video of putting

the video in to the computer thanks

  • Forgot to say: lovely bike...

  • Thanks mate. I like it., but some folks hate them! I just had a lovely ride in the sun today, Re the metal bracket, yes agreed. It was just a one off to test the camera, but not ideal for sure to have a piece of metal next to your face. I did take the precaution of wrapping tape on the edge adjacent to my face though. but as said, it was just to try the camera really. Would be better clipped on the chin guard.

  • Nice video. Thanks. But... Using that piece of metal inside your helmet could prove to be VERY dangerous in case of an accident. I would use a piece of (not so hard, not so soft) plastic instead. Just bought a MD80 and will be using it in my motorcycle helmet. Thank you.
